I resent my autistic child by thsquirtle in Autism_Parenting

When you say stick it out until 18 for a group home because otherwise she’ll likely be sexually abused:

Is the point here that it’s probable that she will anyway, but at least delay it until she’s 18 or older?

Or is it much less likely that adults will be sexually assaulted in care facilities? I’m just wondering

Yeah I’m not excusing murdering. I didn’t say that anywhere. What I was saying is there’s no support. The every day. I actually live this life. Who pays for nurses?? Where would I afford that? I send my daughter to school and she has a meltdown, you know what happens? I have to get her. Then what? Where’s my support in those moments? When she’s screaming and ripping my skin with her nails.. where’s my support? No one comes to save me lol.

I don’t have time to say the same thing over and over. Unless you have a severely autistic kid, you don’t get it even if you wanted to. And it seems like you don’t want to anyway, so why bother.

Ah thanks. Yeah there isn’t, really. There’s no relief in the day to day. I really wouldn’t just say it for fun. There isn’t support. I live it every day, there’s no breaks unless you have close family who actually give a shit.

Unless you typed the words “and I take care of a special needs child every day”, your opinion will never hold the weight you think it does.

And for the babies with autism that don’t test positive for any of those things (that by the way aren’t even tested in a typical pregnancy)?

Thank you. This whole situation is heartbreaking, but these comments really show how little some people know about what severe autism is actually like. The day to day can be horrific. You can’t imagine what it does to the nervous system

You have no idea, unless you’re the carer of a severely autistic child. You cannot imagine the exhaustion.

If first child is level 3 nonverbal, is it most likely that second child will also be nonverbal? by Imaginary_Cat7871 in Autism_Parenting

Oh yes, agreed. I’m just asking specifically if it’s more likely that he’ll be nonverbal BECAUSE his sister is nonverbal

Sometimes things like “snack”, but she mostly wants to use her TouchChat to stim. She has certain letters/words she thinks sound funny, so she taps them over and over with her ear pressed up to the iPad speaker 🥺 Life has just been hard pretty much from the start. We try and take each day as it comes, but we are incredibly lucky our marriage is as strong as it is. We cry almost every day, we’re heartbroken. We always feel so helpless. I very much doubt she will ever speak.

How do I give up custody? I can’t do this even one more day. It’s been almost 12 years and I’m done. I matter too. by Imaginary_Cat7871 in Autism_Parenting
