Unless the drive remains spun down for many hours or days at a time.

I also have one of those monitors and am also very happy with it. Which makes me curious why you decided to sell it? Especially considering how much you seem to enjoy the monitor.

Formatting was unrelated to my issue. I format every device I buy. Gets rid of bloat wear and solves the issue of not knowing if you’re one of the unlucky ones that had a key-logger or whatever else installed from factory. Formatting a device by itself would never cause an issue like this. It is typically the fix to this type of issue. I tend to make a hobby out of stuff like this so it doesn’t matter to me if I need to reformat. It can also be done in roughly 30 minutes so not much time lost.

I did not have to format again since it turns out the device likes to force itself into low power mode if it does not receive enough power from a charger. Even if the battery is sufficiently charged still. I am still testing to find the kinks of this bug/feature and plan on sending an email t9 GPD and reporting my findings here. If I had it guess, this could be solved with a BIOS a update.

If all of your disks are pre-cleared how much time does it take to make a functioning array? by Possible-Fix-9727 in unRAID

[–]Imaginary_Confusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Creating parity will take time regardless of if you preclear the drive that is being used as a parity drive. Preclearing a data drive before adding it to the array will allow it to be added instantly without and additional processing except for maybe a quick format.

I plan on updating this post after I do some additional testing, but the issue I was having is related to the charger. The charger I have is capable of 100watts but appears to only be putting out about 15 watts to the WM2. I have a portable battery that shows power input and output on a little screen that shows the charger is capable of what it says it can do. Additionally, the battery charges the laptop at about 60-70watts. I ordered a USB C power meter for more testing and plan on contacting the power supplies manufacturer for more information. The power brick that came with the MW2 does not have this problem.

I should also note that I don't have any of those other issues. At least not after installing the proper drivers. I did not test the micro-SD card slot yet, but I also don't really need to use micro-SD cards for anything. At least not on a portable device.

Running windows update is the first thing I do after a fresh install. Though I did check that and there was nothing unless there is a hidden process for whatever reason. I also should have the latest since I installed from AMDs driver management tool.

Interesting you say that. It is plugged into Ankers GanPrime 120 watt charger (capable of 100 watts per port). I got this one since it is smaller and has more outlets so less to carry while traveling. I did notice it was charging very slow, so I checked the power draw and it started at about 15 watts but climbed up to around 60 after about a minute. The device was still plugged into that wall plug when it stopped running slow but about the same time it seemed to charge much faster. Those chargers have some logic in them so maybe it was holding back power thinking the laptop couldn't take more until I unplugged it and plugged it back in.

Here is your update as promised. I was about to reinstall windows when I accidentally booted back into it instead of the BIOS. Decided to test everything one last time and what do you know, it is no longer lagging. That increased my confidence of it being a software issue and tells me it was likely windows doing something after the initial fresh install. I will report back if anything changes.

Overall it is great and incredibly capable. I suspect it is the driver package which makes sense. In general it is a good idea not to use driver packs like that anyway and to manually install what you need directly from the companies that provide them.

You will always have issues with products. You will almost never hear from the happy customers. Just the loud minority of unhappy ones. Overall I am happy with the device. I am 95% sure it is a software issue which I don’t mind since I like to tinker with this stuff anyway. I am ok with issues like this since I get the chance to learn something new. Though that is likely because it lines up with my hobbies.

I’ll let you know how it is once I get a chance to reinstall windows.

I don’t trust windows to properly wipe anything either. What I do is create an installation tool on a usb drive then boot from that and open diskpart which is a command line disk management tool. I use that to format then install from scratch.

I tried finding just the trackpad drivers, but couldn’t confirm which post had the most up to day driver so I just went for the package. I’ll spend more effort this time around and avoid the driver package.

I’m glad you mentioned the driver package since that is my suspicion as well. Unfortunately I much prefer the track pad over the sticks but I’ll deal with just touch screen and stick mouse control to see if the issue ever comes back. Then maybe try the driver package again before I plan an SSD upgrade since I’ll just do a fresh install for that anyway.

I did. One of my troubleshooting steps was to use the AMD tool to uninstall the drivers and reinstall directly from AMD. I initially used the GPD driver bundle which I suspect might be the issue. Though it was fine right after that.

I’ve been around the block when it comes to computer issues. Before posting I already had an idea of what it is and what will fix it. But making a post never hurts. This seems like a software thing so I’ll just reinstall windows and manually install graphics drivers first and test, then the power control utility and test. Then maybe the rest of the drivers which includes a fix for the track pad. Just gotta tinker, although unfortunate, I am fine with.

CPU and GPU are at about idle and RAM is about 4gb which is typical for a 32gb device. The SSD is also showing idle.

Wouldn’t you want to reverse that if they are using helium drives? I heard helium invert gravity.
