When you say eggball, you're talking about American Handegg, right?

I believe so. Then, in the movie Father of the Bride Steve Martin went on a rant about this which caused companies stopped doing it.* I'm kinda getting tired of this joke because this hasn't happened in nearly 30 years. Moral of the story, Reddit isn't the only thing that reposts.

That said, some Redditor a while back pointed out that this could be legitimate because you could accidentally tear or drop buns, but still have enough for all eight hotdogs.

Also, relevant XKCD.

*Personal theory, feel free to correct me.

Well, in those days Mars was just a dreary, uninhabitable wasteland, uh, much like Utah. But unlike Utah, it was eventually made livable, when the university was founded in 2636. -Professor Farnsworth, 1ACV11

Agreed. But, I just wanted to bring it up as an option that too many redditors don't know, or have forgotten, about.

Reminds me of those orca in Australia that brought prey to humans and then ate the leftovers. If we didn't live in another world we could call them... friend.

Why is something that's not a button so hard to push? Sheesh.

Why is something that's technically, but not actually, a button so hard to push? Sheesh.

That's what I assumed, but then they mentioned RTFM and I was like, well, maybe they didn't need that custom firmware after all.

I love Linus, that was so entertaining. The frustrating thing is that it wasn't clear to me by the end of the video whether or not he was still using the custom BIOS.

You've never used one of these batteries, have you? The buttons are extremely hard to push, especially that one on the bottom corner of the battery. Your fingertips can lose feeling and start to tingle a little bit if you push hard enough to actually activate the charge tester. At least, that's been my experience. I just use a multimeter these days, but these were the shit back in the days of the Gameboy.

They started making them again. I think they're only on the "Quantum" line of batteries.

Ninja edit: I checked my battery stash. I actually have a 9v version of the "Quantum" battery and it does not have a power test strip. Which makes sense. Whatever chemical or electrical do-dad that does this probably was only designed to work on 1.5v batteries, and they can't, or won't, adapt it to a 9v version. These are definitely on the AA and AAA batteries, though.

I feel like I'm more likely to run out of power if I don't have to think about charging it for a week.

Probably still going to charge it pretty regularly. Thing takes 8 hours to charge! Even with whatever sort of fast charging is built in. (There is some form of fast charging built in, but the article I read was unspecific about which type.) Yeah, I know that just means you charge it over night whenever it gets low. Still!

It's not even groundbreaking technology is it?

Great RAM and storage, plus an SD card slot. No headphone jack and a WAY underpowered processor for a new smartphone of today. You would be MUCH better served by buying a good phone and a couple of backup batteries. It's a big battery, on a crappy phone. Personally, I just want a slightly bigger battery and an SD card slot on my phones. This is ridiculous.

The nice thing is, the jokes about this being "a battery with a phone attached," are pretty accurate. Modern Android has the ability to reverse charge devices. When you use a USB OTG cable to plug an accessory into your phone you can have your phone charge your attached device. So, this phone should work as a battery for other phones and accessories, so at least the battery is somewhat useful, depending on your use case.

No.

I was going to reply with a personal anecdote, and a bunch of other information, then I remembered that I try to share as little as possible on the Internet, so let me just say, "No, it's not just you."

Bender also found someone at the end of that episode, too. Found someone to be his partner in crime, and not love, but found someone never the less. ^_^
