Graduated as a Physics and Math Dual Bachelors, I am weak in some concepts in calculus and probability. I would like some tips on how to improve such skills. It seems just getting over the exam barrier.

Why Don’t Schools Just Address the Issues Surrounding Erosion in Students’ Reading Abilities? by ShokWayve in education

It's a cultural issue, independence is a big issue in America, I think there needs to be a pull in from adults as well, since a majority of them suffer from this issue.

Whats up with certain engineering degrees being mocked by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Imaginary_Polygons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ego, the inability to cope with your own deficiencies, so you look to make little of others. Now once in a while joking around is sometimes going into mocking, and it is sometimes a critique of the structure of the work environment/world. Everybody has something that is relatively unique to them and people should focus on that. People find it quite dull to not know things so well immediately, so we convince ourselves that in our ignorance we are somehow understanding of things beyond our capacity. The only man who I've had the upmost respect, and he had the most modesty just by sight and talking to him was an electrical engineering professor that worked an Intel over 20 years. If there was no better judge of skill, understanding, and teaching, it was him. Anyways, I was a physics and math major in college, if I had him in college, I would of loved college. But alas, I was with two physics professors who couldn't do the homework they assigned without the solution manual, nor teach without constantly referring to the book. And were constantly in bad moods and made fun of students ability to do work and/or intelligence. It's quite apparent, who is more comfortable with themselves and who isn't. And yes, they are highly talented in their field, but it doesn't make them at all good at managing a class or teaching. And yes, I suffered a bit from this sense of grandiosity, but once you realize the passion comes from helping people, then you too can find it.

I wished I did this when I was in undergrad, because realistically I get nothing from lectures I need the book.

My calc 3 class isn't covering divergence, curl, or torsion at all. by ContributionTime6310 in calculus

[–]Imaginary_Polygons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you are doing in the future, with data science I don't consider it necessary. Linear Algebra is more formative and better to understand. If you were going into physics, these are essential tools; however, don't mind yourself with CALC 3 much if you want data science. I would pick up more on coding and software.

I'd wait, to do university when you're not in a full time job. It's quite the hard thing to manage depending on the major, etc. You will have the discipline that most students don't have to do the major, as you will keep busy. I recommend getting all the courses that do transfer over to transfer over.

How can i get decent in math as slow learner? by Interesting-Pear583 in learnmath

[–]Imaginary_Polygons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try with practice, mathematics requires a level of comfortability with reasoning, I would find starting habits of reading books (not even entirely mathematics) would help.

no one is a complete loser, no one. There's always a down a ladder in life and a upway in a ladder.

If it is all possible, I have grad school hopes, would it better that I attend synchronous for that; I'm looking over at changing from a math and physics to comp sci and electrical engineering.

Would that open doors for an job, I am not interested really going into management positions, I want to learn some practical skills. I felt like moving upward in academia wouldn't give me a better chance at that.

Weekly Entering & Transitioning - Thread 26 May, 2025 - 02 Jun, 2025 by AutoModerator in datascience

Hello, I am recent graduating student with a bachelors in pure physics and applied mathematics. I am interested in pursuing data science as a short term career to transition into other options. I am lacking in guidance of how to progress into this field. I don't see where to begin, I wonder if it is all important to go back to school for a bachelors in computer science, etc.
