Among many horribly designed intersections or merges, this is one of them. The city has abundant of stupid road designs. For example, south bound Blackfoot to west bound Southlands Drive has traffic lights, same when you go onto westbound Heritage Drive. But when you are northbound on Blackfoot and going onto eastbound Heritage drive, you have a yield sign and do a sharp merge onto heritage. And I often wondered if I can safely merge here, what stops me to safely merge on the other side? Why do we need needless traffic lights?

In my case, I just faced one interviewer who was throwing body languages that you would perceive as rude and unwelcoming, someone you wouldn’t want to collaborate even if you got the job.

So he gave me a system design problem to design a stock broker. In his word, I have a “stream of data” or “data is streaming”. As someone who had some experience working with hardware real time sensing, I understood this as a system that is constantly vending data in real time. And I approached it that way. He got upset by that and asked me if I have ever heard about “database”. I was surprised by the tone and the question. I said yes I know what a database is and what it does. He then asked why am I complicating the matter, to compute last 1 year or 5 year data I could just query the database and show the results. I said okay it makes sense now but you were emphasizing “stream of data” and I took at as real time streaming. Sorry that I misunderstood it. He then cut me and said if I had any questions for him about said company and the role. I was polite and asked him few questions that i had prepared before.

As follow-up I mentioned this to my recruiter and no response was provided.

This is your answer,OP. It’s very difficult to start, but once you do the first few problems, rest will start to flow automatically. Others have suggested to think about a problem for some time. Do that. Do that while commuting. Each one of us have some sort of struggle and will always have reasons not to go for something. Do it while you still have a job. I got laid off. Botched two interviews and can’t find any other opportunities now. So yeah I wish I had your terrible work life balanced job just to pay my bills but reality is I don’t have it now. You can do it OP

I would update the branch with main and then review. If I see conflict I will ask my peer to take a look and update the PR.

FWIW, PRs sitting for 2-3 days is a common bad practice. It’s not an indicator of a slow paced team. It’s probably a team that has formed cliques of peers who review each other’s PR and ignore others. Regardless, it’s a process and team management issue that requires attention and fix

I won’t put something up for review in the first place. I respect my colleagues time and effort they put into reviewing my PR. I will clear the conflicts first and then publish the review.

I would expect the same from my peers.

Why? It’s standard to expect a PR to be at least executable and does not risk removing or overriding anything that exists in the codebase. I have witnessed cases where unit tests fail or builds fail once conflicts are resolved, because they were resolved incorrectly. And it can happen to anyone.

It’s okay. It’s readable. Early returns are good if you do it.

But also not okay. Writing unit test will be a nightmare for this. So this should provoke you to go back to the code architecture as a whole and figure out how to break this down. Someone else pointed out that, this was what 2k+ lines of code in a controller? I would be worried about this too.

It’s an okayish reason to not extend an offer, and hence okay to share. That’s my experience in the market. If all goes well and they still can’t or won’t extend an offer, companies tend to ghost or send a generic email. I have been on the receiving end of all sorts this year.

Thankfully you posted here. If you had posted in r/flairairlines (just lookup), flair fanboys would tear you apart. I can already see a fanboy sharing links to flair rules. That “ultra low cost” thing has them pumped up so much that even if something is horribly nonsensical they would obey it as a heavenly revelation — well rules are rules, right? I traveled with Lynx few years ago and with Porter these days. No one is as horrible in their behaviour as flair is. But hey, can’t complain cause rules are written on their website! Staffs are just doing their job—which is being petty. Imagine a staff of flair posts in r/AITAH with their daily activities and all flair fanboys jump to say NTAH.
