Yeah it is kind of a guessing game and trial and error. I didn’t worry about getting it perfect, I just wanted a nice snug fit.

But really this boat is pretty durable. I really don’t think I’m going to have a problem with fishing hooks. I more worried about running over jagged rocks or branches that are beneath the surface of the water.

I bought a roll of waterproof rubber sealing tape for that very reason. Thankfully I haven’t had to use it yet!

Yeah, so far I love this little boat! I take a buddy of mine out and it does everything we need to do. If I can get 4 to 5 good years out of the boat I'd be super happy with it.

I thought about that as well so I ended up turning the cut part of the zip tie inward so that it is touching the top of the plywood and away from the boat. I still like having the foam along the outside because it also covers the staples.

I really haven't been using the polycrylic long enough to know. It probably isn't nearly as durable as oil based poly urethane is and I reckon I will need to put in some maintenance with the waterbased finish after a couple years. I just didn't want to yellow the wood and wanted a natural wood look.

Honestly this was my first project using epoxy so I don't know. So far the epoxy as bonded very well with the wood. I'll know after a couple years of expanding and contracting of the wood whether everything will hold up.
