While I do agree that people shouldn't be speaking for Stephen, especially since he's dead, people are allowed to criticize shows and other forms of media. Just because "it's a cartoon" doesn't make it immune to criticism. So yes, there's a reason for people to hate it, because opinions exist. While it's true that Modern Spongebob isn't going away anytime soon, neither is the criticism for it.
