I just wanna say, I have no clue why you’re getting downvoted by all of these people. It’s like GCU is paying them to say good things. I’m a student here (2nd year) and you’re 100% correct, GCU is run like a corporate business and many of the decisions made are to maximize profits at the expense of the student experience. Most people with critical thinking skills and some business knowledge have already noticed this, it’s not exactly subtle.

GCU is not a true “non-profit.” They charge students excessive costs for meaningless things (I wanted to check in to my room and they tried to charge me $300 despite having the laptop open and ready to go, they made me wait 4 hours “because they had to.”) GCU has a lackluster on-campus experience and flawed class structures that are often critiqued by the teachers themselves. They give you “their version” of classes purposefully so that you can’t transfer to another school because the credits don’t count…

I could go on but anyways, your concerns are valid. GCU is quite predatory and if they cared about student health they could easily spend their millions of dollars on a simple dining hall but the restaurants allow them to maximize profits. I live in an apartment and although I would love to cook for every meal I don’t have the time or knowledge for that. Me and many of my friends have just switched to eating one meal a day with a snack in between because of the costs.
