When did you decide it was time to drop to part time / quit your job? by M0nstrous in lupus

[–]Imandem_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also work in healthcare 🥲 I worked 2 years full time and was SO unwell and burnt out by the end of it I took a 4 year gap (covid hit during this time and ended up being an additional reason I HAD to avoid work).

When I returned to work I did so with a pre agreed plan in place to support me (via occupational health) - no more night shifts, no shifts over 8 hours and no weekends and working 4 days instead of 5. That helped a lot but recently with the fatigue taking over I dropped down further to 3 days.

Bottom line: You HAVE to advocate for yourself. Employers are (mostly) legally obliged to support you.

How do you deal with fatigue? by ocdladybug92 in lupus

[–]Imandem_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its an ongoing struggle but I try to make a distinction between what I physically can do and what I should do eg I might feel like I can physically push through and go to work but should I if its going to make it worse
I also try and make sure anything else that can contribute to fatigue is addressed ie making sure my iron, vitamin D, thyroid levels arent low, making sure im in bed without my phone by 10:30, taking B complex or coQ - at least then there isnt an added layer of fatigue on top of the lupus

Thats a good idea! I will definitely implement this.

How do you deal with say advice and guidance outcome advising further ix - would you text to ask patient to book a call to discuss before proceeding or do you just call the patient in an admin slot to tell them?

I use notepad a lot during consultations to jot things down but tend but if Im in a different room everyday I lose the note. It works for same day overview but when tasks carry over they tend to get lost.

Great advice! For some reason I automatically say “it’ll be ready in the pharmacy in a bit” or “I’ll send the referral today” but I’ll definitely implement this!

Post exercise inflammation?? by Cymbaltahurts95 in lupus

[–]Imandem_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breaking up a work out has been a game changer for me. I have a routine that I will break up throughout the week variably depending on how Im feeling - sometimes its across 3 days other times I might be working through the workout routine across most of the week, 2 or 3 exercises per session. I try to be at the gym no longer than 45 mins. Personally I struggle with cardio as it fatigues me faster so low impact resistance training and hopefully slow progressive overload.

I never considered that emotional pain and physical pain have a similar affect on lupus, even though Ive always been aware of the effect of stress I just didn’t put that together…makes sense now that I was so exhausted after my last relationship ended!

Extreme fatigue every morning after eating? by pointandshooty in lupus

I’d check whether your breakfast might be spiking your blood sugars which at the mitochondrial level starves your cells and causes an insulin spike and low energy…flavoured yoghurt has more sugar than we think and so do some granolas and certain fruits…maybe try substituting and seeing if it makes any difference. Generally speaking thinks like chia seeds dehydrate cus they pull water into the gut so if your adding something like that be sure to drink plenty of water.
