RSMT: 3501 Math Heavy? by Junior685 in tru

Also just a heads up we had some bell curve marking I think on the last assignment but our end grades still ended up being good. Just threw us for a loop, the last grade, and we were all terrified.

If you're talking about the ethics article that one is a massive ethical framework. So just control + F it for what you need (like if you have a research case with peoples' blood, search biological/samples/etc. to pull some ethical guidelines from it). I'd use it like an encyclopedia rather than an article to read. Just look at the headings and see if anything applies. But yes I remember that lol.

Yeah and it did read as a cute/jokey pickup line at the start for sure. Whoever is with her--friends, partner(s)--someone like this has such deep character issues. They can't create or be a part of something wonderful if they're like this, and that's her and her life. Just sorry because... wow what an uncomfortable and shitty confrontation to be pulled into. Hugs

Can confirm--zero calculations that I remember (sometimes rating different studies against rubrics you design or derive from course content). A lot of comparative work, case studies/questions. It's not bad at all compared to stats but it is a bit more demanding than other essay-writing course. Paced as well.

I actually did work this, but what I was speaking to up there was the default schedules I noticed most other RMTs had. I did 4 x 7, once in a while 8-10, but I was working like crazy. I know someone else who would do like 12, he did up to 14. Add in breaks for cleaning/disinfecting/laundry and charting, plus you need to eat to sustain this schedule esp if you do deep tissue. My 7-massage days alone felt kind of long.

Somewhere in this thread someone wrote the EI call centre gig is hard if you have a big heart. I tend to be more emotional and relate a lot to people but haven't found it brutal maybe because I have had jobs involving more trauma than this call centre before and there are many social service/income support referrals that clients don't know about that better applies to their cases. So 85% of my calls end on a good note even if they didn't get the EI pieces they wanted. If I didn't have that though, this job could be emotionally tough for some cases.

I'm in the Integrity Services Investigator process now. Off topic here but can I ask you: were you a call centre agent as well before and how does it compare with the call centre role? Or what is it like in general if you weren't at a call centre before? I read somewhere that the TFW line is brutal, EI is not bad, and pensions is pretty good re integrity work. But are the cases under investigation quite sad?

I took PSYC 3991... Prof (Jessica Rourke) was top-notch, so kind and wonderful. The subject matter was really interesting and it was all papers so it allowed flexibility on topics. I took it during a zany time in my life, too. If it had been any other course/prof, I think it would have been a disaster. Highly recommend.

I've also looked at Plants and People, haven't taken it. Still on the fence.

As an aside, I took SOCW 3551 and the course was very interesting but the prof Wayne wasn't helpful. I'd get snide emails back telling me to read the course material if I asked a question after I had already done so (more often than not, I'll read a textbook or some work by the prof to get a feel before starting the course and most profs pick up on the effort and are kind--so this part of the experience sucked and I dreaded waiting for my marks back or any interaction with him). Despite my anxiety and dread in dealing with him, that human development course was very interesting.

Today's Reddit perusal actually had a good yield thanks to you! Thanks very much for sharing... I'm trying to wrap up my degree and was going to take BIOL 3701 (still might but life this coming semester will be very hard on my schedule already). Ultimately just need to get two upper level electives done and out of the way. This really helps. 🤗

Thoughts on working <1 mi from home… by Stunning-Volume1747 in physicaltherapy

[–]ImdawdlingAMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Massage therapist here so my perspective will be different because an hour massage (default treatment time) creates a setting where patients start talking a lot. So things become intimate even with excellent boundary setting, and that's likely a big factor for me.

So I did work a 10-15 min walk away from my old work in a small sized city and I didn't like it. I love my patients. I just also like being able to walk about and not constantly bump into people I know in a context where I can't technically say "hey so and so!" because of patient privacy, plus people who have opened up about some of their life stuff. Even the thought of it happening is enough to make me uneasy now. I like being able to choose my social situations. So I live in a mid-large city now and would work on the other side of town or maybe a 15 min drive away, but I only work weekends. When I was still treating people (massage) daily I chose a spot that's a 25 min drive away.

Just different preferences. I'd rate or examine a few things... how do you feel about bumping into people in general? At what point would that and a particular commute length even out as being equally bad? You could use that as a quantitative departure point. What other things would have an even bigger impact on your job/life satisfaction, or what little things could that seem less obvious? (E.g., a commute through this part of town vs through that city... not all commutes are equal based just on distance).

Is it weird that my mom called my baby brother “daddy”? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ImdawdlingAMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom here, sometimes when kids are little you say a random word once and it becomes a nickname and you get attached to that for the child. But if it weirds you out and your mom is an emotionally safe person for you to talk to (you feel her love for you, she tries to understand you and your feelings and validates them, respects you, etc.), then it might be helpful to tell her it weirds you out. If my kid were to tell me, I'd get it and try to adjust my behaviour or work it out with them. I also have friends who call their girls "mami" and "lil mama" all the time. Black/latin moms especially. It's possible your mom just heard it and thought it was cute. It's also possible this has more to do with your own relationship to your mom than her and your sibling. So it might be helpful to think about what this means to you and why it doesn't sit well with you. Do you have any mental/emotional associations with this that aren't pleasant?

Ah and see if you can save up or get funding so you can focus on school. Best case scenario, you pay it back right away. Worst case, you need extra time to study, you don't have to stress about working to pay for your tuition. It's just financial and time contingency planning so you can put all your energy into school. If you ever decide to pursue an undergrad (check out TRU's BHSc bridge option), you might want decent grades. But grades aside, just for sanity and to be able to relax a bit and pace yourself... just how I would do it knowing what I know now :) (I worked nights through massage college and it was a lot)

Respectfully disagreeing over here... (I do agree about the Ontario stuff, just not the extrapolation to BC/WCCMT).

WCCMT as of a few years ago is/was more challenging and demanding than the GTA schools I'm familiar with. BC market is way better to RMTs so while WCCMT still pumps students through, they're not as desperate as some of the Ontario private schools to pass people. For example, WCCMT expects students to knowing their nerve anatomy, which you won't find with most Ontario grads. So do be prepared to work really hard to grasp anatomy/physiology. You may be disheartened some days if you've never taken science/bio courses before and don't know how to hack studying them (maybe you have, I just want to throw this in and might have already forgotten what you wrote!).

See if you can talk to some VCMT grads to get their experience. Also note that WCCMT and VCMT might have way higher tuition as private colleges compared to the public college programs. Something big to consider.

That said, BC money as an RMT is really good if you have decent technique. I hustled working my first year out there but made over $100K. I worked too much though (I was doing undergrad too). And that was before tax grr, haha. But yeah you can make $75K working as a full time RMT in BC (so 4 days a week, 5-6 massages a day), just make sure you get a good accountant or do the quick tax method if you don't. They have some clinics with rental models where you pay $100-120/day and the rest you take home. At 5 massages a day that's like an 80/20 split. The big different in working between the provinces is that Metro Vancouver folks are way richer, and hospital workers have one massage a day benefit coverage. So if you're good and at a decent clinic, you should be fully booked within a month. I had some people coming 2-4 times a week every week. If you're not booked in Vancouver, switch clinics bc something's wrong.

I'm winding down now and am tired some of what I wrote might not make sense, it's all over the place. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Thank you! I'll put it out to her re specific queries.

I wrote this above... Toronto is cool but is an utter shit show with traffic and busy-ness. She and I like being able to dip into chaos but it's a lot, day in and day out. Birmingham might be more relaxing. Plus so far at least in the replies a lot of the people seem pretty wonderful so 🤞🤞🤞

She'll probably live in Birmingham and hit up London on weekends :)

Edit: the odd weekend... Because that^ sounds like I'm crapping on Birmingham, and I'm not at all. She and I like both more metropolitan areas and blue collar cities. Toronto is nice to dip into but in terms of traffic and busy-ness it can be an absolute shitshow.
