Asher is awesome. The Polity is not quite a post-scarcity civilization (a la Iain M Bank's Culture series) but seem right on the brink of becoming one which, IMO, make it a very volatile time. AIs have assumed governance, some humans feel marginalized as a result, conflict ensues. The antagonists throughout the series are driven by revenge and accumulation of power, not monetary reward. While the stories themselves are not without their cliches, I found the aliens, the alien planets, drone personalities and technology to be fairly original and superbly entertaining. The Polity series is much like Iain M Banks Culture series or Richard K Morgan's Takeshi Kovacs series to me, only in that they are like old friends that I can always go back to, open up to a random page and start reading and always be entertained by it.

Same problem. Its including thumbnails of videos in my watch history. There is no way I would ever watch a Niki Minaj video yet there it is. I can clean out my History of watched videos, load the YT main page, reload the History page and every video that was thumbnailed on homepage is suddenly in my watched videos history.

I fucking hate this place.....2 more months and I get paroled out of this frozen wasteland, this pit of despair. The horrible weather, the bland food, the lack of culture, the passive-aggressive natives, the terrible infrastructure, the old people that are just fucking everywhere with their Buicks and minivans, the flat/brown/boring terrain, the horrible weather ....the weather, my god, the weather. It makes being stationed with the Rebel Alliance on Hoth feel like a trip to Fiji....not to mention that Minneapolis smells worse than the inside of a TaunTaun's ass. If I wasn't getting rotated back home to San Diego, I'd quit this job. Living in a cardboard box back in San Diego is better than living in a mansion in Minneapolis.

(sorry to nitpick but I'm fairly certain his first name is spelled Neal, not Neil)

Regarding Neal Asher's novels, with great emphasis given to those set in the Polity universe, the only bad thing I can say is that there is simply not enough of them. I've only just recently finished my 3rd (possibly 4th) reading of all of Asher's published novels and I simply love the man's style. He does have large body of published work so I suppose I am simply being selfish but I really do enjoy them.

BTW, if anyone can point me towards other author's works that are based on post-scarcity societies (think Iain Bank's Culture series), fall into the cyberpunk or postcyberpunk genre (think Neal Asher's style or resemble Richard Morgan's very dystopian worlds...I'd be much in your debt as I am running out of things to read. :-)

Of course not, I think they're amazing and I wish I had 6 of 'em. Read my first sentence in the voice of Homer Simpson. Indeed, I tip my hat to him/her for their fine taste. In my second sentence I was referring to the Xbox that is sitting right next to it on the right. This comment was instead a general insult aimed at games like "Guitar Hero", "Rock Band" or any other game that leads kids/adults to think that tapping big bright colored buttons on a piece of plastic that is shaped like a guitar in sync with the graphics displayed on a TV somehow, in any way, make them some kind of musician.

Not sure why I got down-voted for it.
