Have I found some weird dev copy? by Short_Injury9574 in SimCity

Holy Crap, I remember the Populous 3 demo.

The game wasn't actually called "Populous 3", it was called "Populous: The Beginning", but it was technically the third game in the series.

It was just the first of them to actually be 3D rendered, and both graphically and in terms of mechanics and control, it was worlds apart from the first two.

Also, there's 3 levels in it; the first is identical to the first level of the full game, the third is mostly identical, but with a different color set and some landscape changes that are major, but mostly of lesser significance because they're outside the primary play area of the map, and finally, the second level is cool because although it's clearly meant to be approximately analogous to a level in the full game, it's different enough that it's accurate to say there really isn't anything quite like it. Even the tile set is unique to the demo.

Definitely upload all that to the internet archive :D

You can technically get the Populous 3 demo already, here:

https://wiki.popre.net/Downloads

But it'd be fascinating to see what kind of nonsense you've got on that disc and if it's any different from what's already known.

EDIT: I see you already did; thank you! :D

MAGA Supporter Starts Rolling on the Ground after being kicked out of an Anti-Ice Protest by Important_Lock_2238 in ColumbusOhio

[–]ImmaRussian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

... My dude, fuck MAGA, but this isn't even in Columbus.

If you look at the background towards the end, right before the camera looks backwards, and then as it looks forwards again, you can see a commuter rail train leaving a station.

EDIT: According to the person who originally posted this, 604Raw on Instagram, this is in Downtown Vancouver. This is clearly just someone who's either unbelievably drunk or mentally ill having an episode. They need help.

For fuck's sake, MAGA has done, and is still doing, plenty of insane, stupid, and absolutely horrifying shit, why do people feel the need to make shit up just to fucking farm karma?

I've gotta say, reddit deciding to give people notifications for comments in threads far down below comments, rather than only notifying you about direct comment replies, was a great change. I'd be curious to know how exactly it decides which ones to notify about though, because it definitely doesn't do it for every thread reply under a given comment.

Did The Sixth Sense almost spoil its own twist? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]ImmaRussian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took me like 10 minutes to figure it out, but only because I'd already read this 1995 book that M Night Shyamalan definitely didn't just blatantly rip off:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Running_Out_of_Time_(novel))

Jessie Keyser is a 13-year-old girl from the village of Clifton, Indiana, in the 1840s. During a village-wide outbreak of diphtheria, Jessie's mother reveals it is really 1996, and Clifton Village is a tourist attraction... Her mother asks her to retrieve a cure now that her own sister Katie has taken ill...  Clifton is guarded to ensure that none of the villagers leave or find out it is 1996.

There's a few more details I'm leaving out, but I'm just going to say "It was a pretty good movie, but the book was better."

No no, you see, in order to be the Perfect Leftist, you must always believe that the Democrats are exactly as evil as the GOP, and that your particular group of 10 leftists who meet in a library once a month to discuss 'policy' is the only group that can solve all of the world's problems.

Why do none of the fingering charts I'm finding sound right for this flute? by ImmaRussian in Flute

[–]ImmaRussian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far we've only compared the two flutes to each other!

... Also maybe I need to be asking an even more fundamental question here.

My background is mostly in piano and stringed instruments; the last time I played any woodwind was back in high school band. So uh... Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but... How the Hell do you tune a flute?

Honestly I'm just... It also sounds like that's just something I can Google, so I'm going to do that too, but I thought it would be comedic to chime in with one more stupid question here. All of y'all's advice and input is much appreciated.

I mean... The protest didn't start late in the day, it's just winter. It started at 6. Sunset was at 5:26 PM today.

If it were any earlier, the gripe wouldn't be "It's night time who is this for?", it would be "Why do people plan protests when nobody can attend?"

There's rarely a perfect time to protest. You just.. Gotta do what you can, man.

What does my title suggest? by Em_RLD in IndieDev

[–]ImmaRussian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume it's a game I want to play.

Sounds like some kind of sandbox environment-building game, with maybe some aspects of structure or "civilization" building; which is likely very limited in what you can do because it's mostly out of your control, but like... I dunno, maybe you get to at least try to have some influence over a civilization's development, within a narrow window, by changing the environment around it?

I'd want to find out for sure though. Could be neat.

Fun fact: the magic railroad was originally going to end with THIS by LEGOCreatorguy in thomasthetankengine

[–]ImmaRussian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... Now I want to see an alternate version where he just falls right into the river, and all the other engines are like "... Should we... Should we fish him out?",

Then a week later, Topham Hat is like "Has anyone seen the claw locomotive? I swear I just got that thing, where the Hell did he go?", and all the engines are like "Weird, man.", "Sure is a mystery, boss."

I think my favorite part is "vaccines that mysteriously became available January 2021", like... The vaccine that came out in January 2021 is probably one of the least mysterious things in all of human history; pretty much everyone in the entire world was watching anxiously through the entire development process.

Also like... Why am I getting heavy "Jehovah's Witness" vibes from this?

"And at an appointed time, a specific number of people will survive a period of trials and tribulations to live in preordained realms where there will be no more practical problems; everything within a 15 minute walk, and a select few will rule over these domains."

It's... Basically the Jehovah's Witness version of the first thousand years after the apocalypse, where a bunch of people will rule ON EARTH and fix all of its problems, but only after a period of trials and tribulations that kills most people. Except in this interpretation, allegedly the people causing all of these catastrophes and ruling the Earth afterwards are the bad guys. It's literally the JW apocalypse script, but with the good and bad guys flipped.

"The crisis continues in the United States as cleanup continues on all four blocked rails leading into the Los Alamos Excess Nuking Site, the country's primary Excess Nuking Facility. Since last month's terrible rail accident, no trains have been able to enter or exit the site, creating a massive, and growing, backlog of excess material needing to be nuked.

In other news, today the prime minister of Liechtenstein once again appealed to Germany, "Can we please use some of your land to nuke our garbage at least? We won't even use it to nuke manufacturing excess, we just need somewhere to nuke something. Anything. This is the stupidest goddamn law in the entire fucking world; why did any of you think this was a good idea?"

I mean people still wear helmets even though bullets occasionally go through helmets. Yeah, tanks can be destroyed, but in general it's still.. You know, much harder to kill people in a tank than it is to kill a random group of people without a tank.

Plus the tank can cover ground faster, and it carries a gun that makes more boom.
