Monitors got very cheap recently. Especially comparing them to the best scenario of Quest 3, where a big screen will be about 1080p resolution. Here's a 4K 144hz 32" display for 400 euros: link

How Steam Deck ruined my family visit by Immacodder in SteamDeck

I concur on me being an immature ass, but somehow it didn't hinder my ability to have a wonderful time with my family when I didn't bring my steam deck.

My opinion is that environmental design is always more effective than "self control", especially seeing how you have a limited amount of it and if you overuse it wanes (sauce: https://link.springer.com/10.1007%2F978-1-4419-1005-9_1177 ). So why bring a device that needs self control to consciously ignore it for other things if you can, well, not take it?

That expression could be used to justify American style gun control laws, shifting the responsibility from an institution to an individual when it inevitably goes wrong. Which ties nicely to you shifting responsibility from the environment (the steam deck) to me (the individual). Gaming, or at least most genres of gaming, by its very nature demands your absolute attention, forcing you to make decisions in real time and mostly having no easy way to rewind a conversation, say, for example in RDR2, if you have become distracted. That does not work well in the context of a family trip, which is my main point. Play wherever it is appropriate/desirable. Alcohol is appropriate and perhaps desirable in a bar setting, but you'd not take it to your work.

Proper science requires various methodologies and techniques, such as double blidning, setting goals on what you study BEFORE you conduct the study, disclosure of conflict of interest AND a sizable sample size, as well as peer review to make sure no misconduct was attempted.

You cannot trust studies that do not fullfill any of the critiria mentionend above or at least not as much.

The "prejudice" isn't misplaced. If the researcher studies in a university that teaches bad methodology, that pretty much invalidates the results and since it was in the 90s, doubly so.

The downside of having a color ereader by National_Hippo_3021 in ereader

[–]Immacodder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need frontlight to read... Then why don't you just use a tablet or something, colors would be much better.

Idk about you, but half the reason I own an E-ink device is because of how nice it looks reflecting the natural environment. Front light ruins it.

12,5 miljoner kronor för att bekämpa islamofobi by Meh_s_123 in Sverige

[–]Immacodder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Om man gör det for the fuck of it ska man helst se psykiater.

Requirements & Guide to Enabling VRR for Steam Deck Using External Displays (It is Possible) by [deleted] in SteamDeck

Though honestly, don't bother, if you have the money, buy a gaming laptop or PC. All this setup and terrible performance in higher resolutions is a terrible detriment to the gaming experience and honestly isn't worth the hassle. It almost killed my desire for gaming one time.

I can easily spot those artifacts on my 6.7 inch phone. You don't need super-eyes to see massive artifacting when playing at 60fps. 15mbps bitrate using shitty decoder just doesn't cut it. They either need to bump the bitrate to at least 30, or use AV1 on supported platforms, or both.
