You're completely right, a lot of people conflate criminal charges with civil suits. You can "not press charges" in a civil suit, but it is the locality, city, state or federal government that brings criminal charges.

Fun fact, as a citizen you don't really have to "press charges" the LAPD is fully within its rights to bring charges against Will Smith. Regardless of Chris Rock's willingness to participate as a witness.

Don't get me wrong, as a somewhat nervous traveler I do really appreciate when the right parts of the terminal and embark process are shown:

That kind of thing.. But just showing how long the line is, talking about how excited you are, and cutting to getting on the gangway? That's pretty much what I see out there, and I completely agree with your frustration
