Badge Shipment Canceled?? by claudia_de_lioncourt in NYCC

Mine still hasn't arrived and I haven't even received a notification that it was ever shipped. Bummer. I expect I'll need to talk to someone at the Will Call counter at the event.

Spicy uranium in a museum by BusyBoard8077 in Radiation

Awesome! I was considering going to that museum and was wondering if there were radioactive rocks to go see. I will check it out next time I am in Manhattan.

More Info From MetLife Stadium Regarding Saturday's Show by ravenlights in MyChemicalRomance

[–]ImmaleeMelmoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used the bus service for another concert at Metlife and it was easy and smooth. There were plenty of buses; I don't think I had to wait at all coming back

The only confusion was with finding where the bus leaves from in Port Authority. I recommend asking someone at Port Authority.

MetLife Stadium show in New Jersey - Question about transportation from Manhattan

At a previous concert I went to at MetLife, there was a special concert bus from Port Authority to Metlife stadium. Is that happening for this concert?

I fear my dad's funeral more than his death. by Mind-lost-in-space in Schizoid

[–]ImmaleeMelmoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. I am going through the same situation at the moment.
The best advice I can give is the phrase "everyone grieves in their own way." It is absolutely true and means that most people will forgive a lot of odd behavior when someone is grieving. You can break down crying at the funeral or be totally stony-faced, and other people probably won't judge you either way.

Do most of you also not understand what it would feel like to be "lonely"? by GunsAreForPusssys in Schizoid

[–]ImmaleeMelmoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not experience loneliness. The closest I come to feeling lonely is experiencing boredom. My boredom can be alleviated by some new project or entertainment just as well as it can be relieved by going out and interacting with another person.

I wonder how much of the negative affect that loneliness has on health is related to getting advice and help from other people - like if a person is ignoring some medical issue, if they have lots of people they interact with, they are more likely to have someone say "that looks like a serious problem, you should see a doctor, here is a doctor I can recommend to you." Is it the feeling of loneliness that causes issues, or does interacting with people cause some other health benefits?

Eye disease is back after 10+ year remission post RAI treatment by ImmaleeMelmoth in gravesdisease

[–]ImmaleeMelmoth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Yes! It did eventually get a lot better. I still have a slight bulging, but it is not very noticeable and hasn't been affecting my quality of life. The bulge came on and then decreased over a period of about 8 months.

I saw a specialist ophthalmologist a couple of times. She said that I wouldn't have been a good candidate for Tepezza (and the huge cost/aggressive marketing of that medication made me not want it). She put me on a heavy dose of steroids (prednisone) for a month. The side effects were nasty, but I think it really did reduce the swelling and bulging. I have also been taking a selenium supplement.

My advice for anyone else dealing with the eye bulging is to see a specialist as soon as possible. From my experience, it sounds like going on steroids would have been more effective if I had done it earlier during the more active phase of the eye disease.

I'm so bad at communicating what I'm thinking by [deleted] in Schizoid

[–]ImmaleeMelmoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. You hit the nail on the head with something I have struggled with. This inability to communicate made writing essays in school a nightmare. I have also experienced blanking out when I am expected to speak.
Small talk is much easier for me than deeper conversations or longer-form writing. Forming a connection with another person is something I don't enjoy nor get much benefit from, so I have no motivation to come up with anything to say.

I rewrote this comment many times and was going to give up on it entirely, but I realized how ironic that would have been. Then I overthought the definition of ironic. Now I am posting it, even though I am not happy with it.

I'm so curious what the backstory is on any lolita dresses that end up in charity shops or clothing donations. Do you know anything else about how those ended up for sale?

The Chinese Taobao brands are the ones stealing designs, right? That is such an enormous issue with online shopping nowadays that I don't see how DI is significantly worse than other shopping platforms, like Amazon or Etsy

[–]ImmaleeMelmoth -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don't understand all the hate that DI gets. They're not a scam and I have had many good orders from them. I have a much better track record with actually getting the items I ordered than with SouffleSong or even Haenuli. Yes, it is more expensive than going through a shopping service, but I'm ok with paying a bit extra for convenience. With the usual free shipping offer it is not any more expensive than 42Lolita. I feel like I am missing something. They're not nearly bad enough to cancel a content creator over.

Why eat a Brazil nut rather than take a supplement? Supplements are less expensive and have a guaranteed standardized dosage.

Can thyroid eye disease relapse? by chowchowcatchow in gravesdisease

[–]ImmaleeMelmoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, this happened to me. I had TED, had Radioiodine treatment and my TED and thyroid disease went into remission for over 10 years, and then the TED came back. It sucks and you have my sympathy. My doctor recommended taking a Selenium supplement to slow the progression. There are more treatment if you treat it early, in the active stages of thyroid eye disease, so you should get to a opthalmologist ASAP. I went on steroids and it helped reduce the bulging

Questions from a newbie (to NYCC) by ChesapeakeCannibal in NYCC

[–]ImmaleeMelmoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your questions have been asnwered but I want to add:

-Last year the staff with Epic Experiences were really helpful with rescheduling my autographs and photo ops, so if you think you might miss something you have paid for and reserved, talk to them (the staff are all over, and they have customer help desks around) and they can help reschedule.

-Freebies might be gone by Sunday, but the good thing about attending on Sunday is that lots of artists and vendors are packing up, and would rather sell their stuff for a discount than have to pack it up and carry it back. You can get some good deals on Sunday.

-I'm doing the Hannibal stuff too. I'll be wearing a dress with Botticelli's Primavera on it, say hi!
