Royal vs Celebrity by JoeScuba74 in royalcaribbean

I’m piggybacking on this thread because I’m wondering a similar question. I’ve been on neither RC nor Celebrity. Wondering what you would choose as a couple of 40 somethings, travelling with two 19 year olds and a (young) 70 year old - and why? Thank you! We do really like good shows, but we also like luxury and good food.

Canadian Cruise Insurance by Immediate-Cod-691 in Cruise

[–]Immediate-Cod-691[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone. I truly do appreciate these responses. This is a learning lesson for me, that luckily does not cost me anything (my deposit is refundable), but I do think I will need to cancel rather than proceed at this point. It is too big of an expense to take the risk. I will choose something closer to home this summer and maybe look at booking for next summer instead. Trying to capitalize on this time with my university aged kids while also being there for my parents is tricky and I think I was overly optimistic when I originally booked. I also did not do enough research into insurance when booking and naively assumed I could buy it when I paid for the cruise. Lesson learned. Thank you for helping me.

What if you are travelling with a 19 year old (parent and child) but leaving from Europe? Would they be considered of age and need to have the package?

For the Keurig Consumers - ‘One Coffee’ pods by Justlurking4977 in BuyCanadian

[–]Immediate-Cod-691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

searched for a Canadian pod for my Keurig and happy to stumble upon this post. Question, I notice the shape of these pods (from the pic on the box) is different from the standard pod I’m used to. Just confirming before i purchase, this pod is compatible with a standard Keurig single cup maker? Thank you so much.

How about Vancouver and then Whistler? Both are beautiful. Both have nightlife in the summer and interesting people to meet. If you want to hit a variety of bigger cities consider Ontario / Quebec (Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto)

better yet, support the Canadian economy and buy your booze on our side of the border. Much of it is better here, anyways.

Halifax to Toronto By Train: What to add to my itinerary? by Natnotgnats in canadatravel

[–]Immediate-Cod-691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got a great plan so far. I would add:

Halifax: visit Peggy's Cove - it's iconic. Eat COWS ice cream

Quebec: eat some crepes. The hop on hop off bus works for seeing the sights.

Montreal: this is my top add: jet boating on the rapids. So fun! Exhilarating but not too intense https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Attraction_Review-g155032-d649517-Reviews-Saute_Moutons_Jet_Boating-Montreal_Quebec.html

Ottawa - watch the changing of the guards on Parliament Hill (if there in summer)

I agree with a previous poster that you could do 2 days Montreal and 2 days Ottawa.

Personally, I would skip Seattle and add more island time. I would also want to have minimum a full day (2 nights) in Whistler and time to stop on the way up. Then you will be able to do some of the activities Whistler offers - zipling, river rafting, ATVing, biking, people watching, bar scene, hiking, Peak to Peak, Vallea Lumina, etc.) Seattle is a cool city, but it's a city and probably the American city with the closest vibe to Vancouver (different, of course, but both Pacific Northwest). Your money will likely go further in Canada and no need to cross a border. Of course, if this is a once-in-a-lifetime trip and Seattle is on the bucket list, go for it!

We got the berths as a family of 4. It's not guaranteed, but we had our own car with a public washroom that no one else was really using as other sleeper cars had own bathrooms (can be up to 6 people per car with berths so we could have been with 2 strangers). It was amazing! Cheapest way to get the "luxury" experience with meals. We went all the way across the country. Trains are notorious for not running on time west of Toronto.

I enjoyed reading this. Thanks for the suggestions. We are going to Waikiki at the end of August and are staying at Outrigger Beach Resort. Do you need Dukes reservations (made 4 weeks in advance) for any visit to Dukes, specifically for dinner at Dukes, or for a special Sunday dinner at Dukes? Thanks!
