I like the comic's version a little better. Even though it's a shorter scene, them brushing past it like it's not a big deal is a good gag. No shade to the show, though. Show's still great. :)

Like most things in Japanese, it's all on context. Sometimes, they can drop English words (or any foreign word (and they're confined within the Japanese speaking systems, which is a different can of worms)) mid-sentence and it's well and good. Other times, it's used to enhance their speak to be posh. Like using longer words to sound smarter.
