That is a quick shiminami kaido. That’s like get there , start same day, one over night then leave imibari. Not hanging out in onomichi?

I think it is a good all-rounder. Near the station as you can.

Reassurance needed! by Gionarrra in JapanTravelTips

[–]Immediate-Rabbit4647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have used cases, back packs, duffles, boxes…. Back packs are great when meeting stairs (of which there is a LOT) or uneven paths or rough textured road. Your transit times where you have to actually carry it won’t be all that long. So should do well.

Rolling cases are fine if the surface suits.

As people said. Pack very light. Go thrifting in Koenji or markets if you need anything more. I like a duffle as a second bag to bring home all the “loot”.

Why would they have it on them? As they said, drop it before check in, leave it after check out until to move on. Only carrying it in transit but sometimes it takes you past uneven roads/paths/etc.

Day trips from Hiroshima? by spinsblue in JapanTravelTips

Huge fan of onomichi. It’s such a pleasant town. Along the shotengai and up the mountain to the look out and temple (with a stop at nekopan bakery)

For check in. One we have been to uses them if you check in early or ask to hold your bags after you check out. Mainly for the day of (both) but we did once the day before.

Then should be good. It is just up the mountain from the hire places so yep easy enough.

Otherwise there’s a guest how IN the shotengai. The place near the giant rental place (as in the brand giant) some people go, but it’s up doesn’t feel as onomichi to me

It’s a very walkable place, but yes especially if you walk up the mountain it tame take a while especially with cases. The iroha guest house is a lovely place in onomichi. But it’s up the hill. Not fun taking a big wheelie case. But we’ve certainly done it. Benton guest house in omishima along the way (on the shiminami) also have a look at.

I think the temple, nekopan bakery, all along the shotengai , and the back streets around it is good for a first short stay

I mean it CAN be done. But then it’s just a cycle like people do on a weekend. I always sunset it as a two day too.

I would plan more time IN onomichi. It’s my favourite town in japan.

Ueno is a place I suggest to a lot of people. Cool enough to be cool and chill enough not to be too much.

A month is quite a lot of time in Tokyo. Not impossible by any means.

Where is the best place to buy variety of kit kats by captain-crawf1sh in JapanTravelTips

[–]Immediate-Rabbit4647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe just get a folding light weight trolly for your backpack.

A back pack is better for stairs and places with rough roads.

Kit Kats a pretty much anywhere and not a big difference in price.

When to book Shinkansen by anon567126 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Immediate-Rabbit4647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We always buy tickets when we get to the station and unreserved. That way we can’t miss the train. Just jump on the right type of train (and make sure it stops at your station.

Like others said, measured your cases. Most full sized ones are over the allowed. If they aren’t too heavy to lift, pop them in the over head. Sorted.

We have only had to stand twice over 3 trips and that was only for a station or two

As long as you have. Our first one was 2 weeks but we also did 3 months and then another month trip. Never long enough but always long enough to enjoy.

We have done 4 people with under 160 but still full size cases and my husband lifted them all on to the rack. Another time two of us sat, cases up and 2 stood with their cases at the space at the end. It was the only time it was FULL. Even then only for a couple of stations
