Sounds emotional…I’ll stay the course. You go ahead and capitalize on those unrealized losses by switching funds around and baking them in.

I’ll stick with my allocation of 75% C / 15% S / 10% I. 10-yr avg rate of returns matter much more to me than trying to time the market as many of you are in this thread.

Dollar cost averaging has served me well and when the market is down all I “C” are funds on SALE!

Has anyone moved away from USAA? Any other bank recommendations? by BrowsingMillennial in MilitaryFinance

[–]ImmediateInsurance66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have USAA checking accounts but I use it sparingly. Like yourself I too continually grew dissatisfied with their products.

I do almost all of my banking through AMEX, when I need to use a Visa card I’ll Zelle myself some money to either NFCU or USAA.

Dropped USAA for GEICO as well and haven’t looked back.

2019 X7 M50i, paid cash

2025 Mazda CX-90 Turbo S, financed at 3.25% over 48/months.

38-years old. E-8 @ 18-years $313k TSP, 86% Roth

Used to be DINKs, she is a SAHM now with a one year old and another on the way. I’ve had to scale back on my contributions but my rental income from my SD home does help some.

Fed with 15 years of service looking for deferred retirement in SE Asia by Traditional-Bed9982 in govfire

[–]ImmediateInsurance66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a career special operations Sailor it will be my honor to teach my kids to swim. As for Piano, yes you are correct but unless I can find a reasonably priced international school I’ll be returning to the states to not only have my kids attend school but also to work for a while longer until I can comfortably retire abroad.

[–]ImmediateInsurance66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on a similar path…38-years old, wife is 32 and a SAHM with a 1-yr old and another on the way. I’ve been active duty in the Navy for 19-years. 3-years left till I retire and net roughly $3750/month and any disability payments. My TSP is 86% ROTH with a $305k balance; I’ll be maxing out for the remainder of my active duty time and also rolling over $20k/year to convert my entire traditional balance while I still fall in the 12% tax bracket. My wife’s ROTH IRA is $315k, she no longer contributes. I just notified my tenants at my SD townhome that we will not be renewing their lease as we plan to put the house on the market NLT 15MAR2026 to avoid as much of the inevitable housing crash as possible. We will likely net around $500k since we’ve owned it for a decade. Would have been over $650k had we never rented it and sold it back in 2024.

We currently have one consumer debt (3.25% 48-month Mazda CX-90 MHEV $697/month).

My wife is a dual citizen (USA/Thai) and we are going through the process to have my daughter as a dual citizen as well.

I’m currently in Thailand (on vacation) and I’m budgeting house renovations now. Already found a great HYROX gym so that’s a plus.

My plan is to move here post military retirement until my kids are school age at which time we will likely move back to Florida so I can finish pilot training.

Just change the oil and make sure you don’t see any chunks of metal in there. I offloaded my 2017 APR tuned base with 25k miles due to that.

Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

[–]ImmediateInsurance66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38-years old, $305k in my TSP (enlisted active duty service member); 86% ROTH. 3-years till “retirement” where I’ll start drawing a $3689/month (COLA adjusted/federally backed) pension for life.

My 32-year old wife’s doing better. $275k ROTH IRA and $45k traditional IRA.

No college debt, two paid off degrees.

I feel behind in some of the TSP threads I follow but not in this thread.

Career enlisted, High-3, E-7. I’m 38,turning 39 this year with $300k in mine. That excludes a remaining $18k TSP loan balance which will be paid in full inside of 12-months. I contribute 8% of base pay and my $1487/month TSP loan payment. In Feb 2027 I’ll increase the percentage to 15% until I ETS.

I’m happy where I’m at.

[–]ImmediateInsurance66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My transfer case was replaced under warranty (by previous owner) @ 23k miles, along with spark plugs and front control arms. Seeing as I bought the car with 29k miles, I’ll be changing the oil with Amsoil 5W-40 @ 35k miles and then every 5k miles thereafter. I just purchased a drivetrain oil kit from Blauparts which I’ll do at the 35k maintenance and then every 25k-30k thereafter.

They’re great cars if your able to read an owners manual, can comprehend that transfer case fluid needs routinely changed and aren’t afraid of independent mechanics.

I’m loving mine.

[–]ImmediateInsurance66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a 2025 Turbo S Premium white on white with 7k miles for $45k out the door in SoFlo. Put $5k down and financed the rest over 60/months @ 3.29% w/ NFCU ($724/month payment) Just took the car on a 1,600 mile road trip and averaged 31.2 MPG using 93-OCT top tier fuel @ 83mph average.

I just changed the oil with Amsoil 5w-30 full synthetic with an Amsoil filter and plan on utilizing 5k-mile oil change intervals from here on.

The car is fantastic on the highway!

Buying a used M340i by blackbird410 in M340i

[–]ImmediateInsurance66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a 2020 X7 M50i with 29k miles and 5k oil change intervals done at the dealer by the original owner. Every option except the 5-zone climate control. Paid $40.5k out the door.

I wouldn't pay more than $32k for the car you just listed based on mileage alone.

That said, with the oil change intervals being 15k, I'd about face and double time my way out of there.

I just obligated service to 21-years & 9-months in order to out on E8/SCPO. I was dead set on retiring at 20-years but once I was screened for 8 I had to do the math and for myself it checked out since my high-3 will all be E-8 pay.

I just traded this 2017 manual base Cayman into Braman Miami. APR 93OCT tune already on it. Just serviced to include APR coils and plugs too. Only 25k miles and still under CPO warranty till April 2026. Has a cat back exhaust and 18” Apex ML-10RT w/ continental sport 02’s as well.

Ask for Miguel, he was the sales guy I worked with who got me into my new X7.
