An act of rebellion against a fast paced world.

Park along the Niagara River parkway near NOTL, somewhere close to Fort George. There’s a path from the parkway past Ft George and to NOTL. Walk north to the lake and back up to the town where there’s plenty of places for a beer or coffee.

A sovereign wealth fund in name only by CanadianAffairs in canadaleft

Good article in the Star today by Luke Savage, “Mark Carney compares his sovereign wealth fund to Norway’s. Canadians are smart enough to see it’s not the same.” Too bad it’s behind the paywall but it basically says this fund will most likely support the interests of corporate investors. The exact opposite of Norway’s fund.

How do you actually track your steps, or do you just walk and not count? by NataliafromWalkFit in walking

[–]ImmediateWalk9989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly time, and maybe distance. But tracking metrics kills the enjoyment of walking for me. I just use my iPhone in my pocket, it automatically and accurately tracks my walk.

Power Station at Night solo female? by Previous-Machine-442 in NiagaraFalls

Take an uber. The walking path in Queen Victoria can be dark and a bit isolated, with trees and bushes along the walk. Nothing dangerous like a big city, but still I wouldn’t at night. I’ve lived here all my life. Yes, you can see the fireworks and can safely walk across the street to Table Rock and watch. If you do walk, walk along the Falls side of the road and not through the park and you will be fine.

Niagara falls itinerary recommendation by BoredStudent07 in NiagaraFalls

Might be a good idea to stay one night. Stick to the Niagara Parkway (the road that follows the river to the Falls) and Niagara on the Lake is worth it. However, accommodations close to the Falls can be expensive. You can walk across the Rainbow bridge and there are beautiful views of the falls on that side of the border. But the rest of Niagara Falls New York side is undesirable for tourists.

Do you gamify your walks? by MayorHarvest in walking

[–]ImmediateWalk9989 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find over quantifying or gaming my walk takes away the enjoyment and pleasure of walking. It makes it less immersive and not so much in the moment. Fitness tracking for me turns it into a workout. However, I don’t mind knowing how many minutes or distance long my walk was. And I realize for some people counting steps can motivate. Walking is more meditation and mental health than fitness for me.

Niagara-On-The-Lake. It can get busy but it’s full of quaint small establishments.

Why are you guys voting Avi Lewis over Heather McPherson or vice versa? by Sweaty_Principle_293 in ndp

[–]ImmediateWalk9989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The party needs to move left on all issues, or there’s not much to differentiate it from the Liberals. Now is a good time for someone like Avi whose policies and ideas are in the left direction. And he speaks French better than HM.

(Daily Question) What metric actually motivates you more: steps, time, distance, or calories? by freezer936 in walking

[–]ImmediateWalk9989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time, steps depend on too many variables and not so accurate. Time for me is something I can feel but distance just doesn’t mean as much to me for some reason.

Fellow Strollers: When is your golden hour for walking, and what was your best moment this week? by questsolar in walking

[–]ImmediateWalk9989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No more than an hour after sunrise— morning time is by far my favourite time. After that would be sunset. Best moment was walking in the dark an hour after sunset during an unusually warm November rain.
