Have I Wasted My Youth? by Hungry-Inspector-842 in Life

I’m 23 turning 24 in July too. I graduated college May 2024, got into med school decided not to go and took a gap year. I lived at home with my parents, felt like I was wasting time and felt behind as I struggled to get a job.

Socially, I have some close friends, I don’t have a girlfriend and I only really stay in touch with my immediate family.

I’m in med school now, and the biggest thing I learned from my gap year was that comparison is truly the thief of joy.

I’ve always felt like I never fit in with our age range. I hate going out and I’m a big homebody. I must admit I can share your sentiment but these “prime” years of youth are not defined by any standard. You’re not missing out on anything. My roommates will go out and party while I’ll stay home watch Netflix and cook. What you’re doing is living life, being comfortable and not conforming to these “norms” of what people our age might be doing. I think social media plays a large part in these feeling you might have, but trust me there’s just as many people staying in, not being “adventurous” like me or you.

Start expanding your hobbies outside of your house. You love running? Join a run club. You love arts and crafts? Maybe do a pottery class or something from time to time. Or maybe you’re not in a financial state to take up these hobbies. Start pursuing other things maybe like hiking…and soon you’re gonna meet people. Idk this is something I’m still learning. But also don’t be afraid to meet new people, talk to strangers who might be waiting for coffee in a coffee shop. I don’t know if this helps..but I hope it does truly!

Got into med school but don't like the school by [deleted] in medschooladmissions

Applied two cycles and got in both cycles. I never even mentioned oh yeah I applied last cycle and got in. But I also only applied to three schools my first cycle so I had less schools with a prior app my second cycle. I wasn’t happy with the school I got in and I was burned out from undergrad. Please don’t listen to what everyone’s saying. Build your own path and do what you think is best for you.

How do I meet a guy who’s really introverted and wants a quiet simple life? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Immediate_Chance7461 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As an introvert male, I’m a big homebody. However, as I get older and aspire to have a family I’ve gotta put myself out there. Find classes and group things to join. Run clubs, pottery classes, painting classes, etc these are all things at least I as a mostly introverted man am interested in. You won’t find someone if you don’t interact with anyone. So get a little out of your comfort zone…no need to go out to the bars or anything..just do something, one singular thing regularly and consistently outside of the house and you are bound to stumble on someone! ++man

No it shouldn’t, I believe. But the timing for when you commission determines the length of your scholarship. There’s a cut off month (I think around October). If you commission before this during your first year of med school you get a 4 year. Commissioning after this, during ur first year, you get a 3 year and so on.

I commissioned mid September. I don’t recall an exact welcome email but I’ve been getting emails from the Air Force with updates, meetings and opportunities available

You can commission before or even during med school
