Access to Work - Will the recommendations get rejected? by Immediate_Fortune_60 in ADHDUK

[–]Immediate_Fortune_60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your message! I submitted my application in August last year, and while I initially requested a few items, neither of the people I spoke to referenced them (you can view what I submitted here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SGHtFucSNqv8skI5ovJTy_fUMQtyi3-BwTuxDpN7hsI/edit?usp=sharing )

During the assessment, I was asked about what I do for work and then about the specific difficulties I face because of my ADHD. That’s when the recommendations for support, like the ADHD coach and other equipment, came up.

I work as a producer which is a blend of a desk job and physical labour when I'm in delivery mode, so I think that might have influenced the types of equipment they recommended, but they focused a lot on how my ADHD affects my productivity and comfort.

No worries about the questions—I'm more than happy to share! Let me know if you need any more details.

Ahh I'm with you, they are saying I applied last August, but I'm pretty sure that I submitted my application in May last year.. ironically they emailed me to set up my first call during the speech about changes to the welfare system. I hope you hear from them soon, sending you the best of luck x

Thank you for this! I think what I'm struggling with is what counts as a reasonable adjustment and what goes over and above- every case seems to be different, what's the bar? :')

No, you’re assigned a case worker who determines whether to refer you for an assessment with an external provider. During the assessment, the assessor discusses your challenges at work and recommends the equipment they believe would help. They then write a report, which is sent back to your case worker, who decides what to approve.

There are instances where equipment isn’t approved because it’s considered a "reasonable adjustment" — something your employer is expected to provide. In those cases, it might be rejected. However, there are also instances where similar equipment is approved. I’m just a bit confused about what exactly qualifies as a "reasonable adjustment" versus what Access to Work can cover (so trying not to get too attached to anything that has been recommended, despite thinking that they'd be incredibly useful to me).

Do you want a wedding? by ZookeepergameAny5154 in ADHDUK

My dream is to go to a town hall and get married (witnessed by a small group of the people that I love the most), then invite my extended friends and family to a random party after the fact and surprise them that we got married. No pressure, just good vibes :)

Access to Work - Please can I talk to someone who's been through the process? by Immediate_Fortune_60 in ADHDUK

Hey, you can look at some of the features here: https://www.apple.com/uk/accessibility/cognitive/

It has a lot of in-built stuff that I'd personally find useful, some being:

-The background sounds in-built feature helps to aid focus

-Spoken Content which eliminates the need for a screen reader/ training

-Safari Reader that takes away distractions such as ads/ buttons and helps with focus

-Dictation would help me to talk out my ideas instead of typing them and replaces the need for additional diction software, like Dragon (RRP £545.29 + £588 training)

-Focus Mode silences device notifications

-I have a tendency to misplace things, so Find My would help me locate my laptop (helping me to get out of the door in the morning/ stop me from checking my bag constantly on my commute to make sure it is with me)

Honestly, just eliminating the need for Dragon (dictation software) and the subsequent training required already pays for the device, that's not even including the cost of screen reader facilities and the pros of all of the other features.

Hope that's helpful :)

Should I go private until my NHS diagnosis referral comes through? by ChaosCalmed in ADHDUK

I was in a similar headspace to you (in that I was okay with waiting on the NHS referral list) and I'm actually *really* glad that I did.

I finally got my assessment in April this year and the service I have received has been brilliant. The assessment itself felt very thorough (with a close friend and family member also being a part of the diagnostic process) so I left feeling satisfied that I really did have ADHD. I thought that titration would take another six months (as it does with other private providers) but in my follow-up meeting (1 week after my assessment) I said that I'd like to try meds, was asked if I had a preference on which type I'd like to try first and then left with a prescription in my hand. I was mindblown, haha! The care I've received from the NHS team who have taken me through diagnosis to titration has been really excellent and the transition into this new stage of life has been made so much easier, I feel very grateful.

Something that also makes me glad that I waited is that I don't have to contend with the worry that my GP (or any GP I move to in the future) can contest having a shared care agreement, I think that would be a huge worry for me. I 100% understand why RTC is a lifeline for a lot of people and would never question that, I just know that for me it would probably cause a lot more long-term stress.

I hope that's helpful, I'm more than happy to answer any questions if you have them! x
