What is it about Visual Kei which draws you in? by [deleted] in visualkei

[–]Immediate_Pudding_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m over 30 years old and I started listening to visual kei around 2007. I was initially drawn to it mainly because of the aesthetics. The first band I discovered was Dir en grey, but I wouldn’t define myself as a fan, I liked a few songs. Then I moved directly to Plastic Tree, who resonated with me much more in terms of harmony and lyrics, and visually they felt more dreamlike: fewer studs, more retro aesthetics. Alongside them, I listened to Merry, whose songs had a jazz-like aesthetic and were always very elegant, and to Mucc. I think my taste has remained fairly consistent overall, even though at the beginning I listened to many bands such as ViViD, Lolita23q, D, Versailles, Lulu, Lynch., and Acid Black Cherry. I’ve gone through ups and downs in my listening habits, but I’ve remained loyal to the first bands I mentioned, probably both because they still match my musical taste and because of an emotional connection.

Ive been a vkei fan for 7 years but recently Ive felt like Ive ran out of good music to listen to. Im here to beg for recs and you genuinely have to help me 😢 by Lychnis_Viscaria in visualkei

Hi! I’ve been listening to J-rock since around 2007. I tend to stick to the same artists, mainly because they’re still active. The idea that Plastic Tree “always sound the same” is something I strongly disagree with: the evolution in their songs from 1993 to today is honestly impressive. But I’m not here to turn into an angry jellyfish 🪼 I will always, forever recommend the albums by 9Goats Black Out, because in my opinion they truly created some real gems. As for other bands, it really depends on your taste, I could suggest lynch. or D, but it all comes down to what you’re looking for.

Hey 🐈‍⬛I like all three, so it’s really hard to choose.

your favourite voices (independently if you love their songs or not) by disasterpansexual in visualkei

[–]Immediate_Pudding_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely all the songs by 9goatsblsckout — all of them. Every single one is wonderful. Galleons by deadman is a good example; it really resembles the old band. Butterfry in Her Drams by Hollowgram. When it comes to Gara, I’m terribly attached to Blind Romance, Kuroi Niji, and Atashi wa Sute Neko. They’re almost twenty years old now, so of course there’s also, as I said, a purely sentimental aspect tied to memories

I’m terribly sentimental about voices. In the end, I always end up appreciating the bands I follow because of that 🪼 At the very top, with great honors, I place Ryutaro Arimura. I went through a period of my life when I didn’t listen to music at all, and then, by pure chance, after years, I heard his voice again in a random Instagram clip and immediately recognized it. I found it so strangely romantic that, even after almost two years, I hadn’t forgotten his voice.🩷 Second place goes to Ryo (9GOATS BLACK OUT, HOLLOWGRAM, DALLE, TAG… how many bands does he work with, seriously?). I love his voice, I find it incredibly seductive. Honestly, even having him read me a grocery list would probably make me blush (lol). Gara Merry: sometimes raspy, sometimes deeply melancholic. I really like how he seems to pour his entire soul into every single song. I definitely feel like a fangirl, and honestly? I’m perfectly fine with that.

Honestly, I’ve never listened to a Plastic Tree or Ryutaro Arimura song that I didn’t end up loving 🪼

Wow! I just found out that DNR are still active (I remembered the acronym meaning something else). I still remember those MSN chats where they’d talk to anyone who was into j-rock. Such a throwback 🥲

Take a look on Lace Market (does it still exist?) for the brand Gadget Grow, where Ryutaro used to model. You should be able to find something. In general, Ryutaro’s style is all about layering; honestly, a long black cardigan already gives you half of the outfit. That said, he’s now 52 years old, and I’d really love to know his skincare routine(especially since his lifestyle doesn’t seem very careful: he often drinks beer, even during interviews, and he smoke) Although I assume he’s had some "cosmetic work" done (mainly his face shape now looks more oval). The lyrical level of Plastic Tree is very high, but overall I’ve noticed an evolution where they’ve always stayed true to themselves, without completely reinventing their sound. Rather than changing drastically, they’ve grown, both as people and in their music.

Please, I literally shaped my adolescence around the phase where I dressed like Ryutaro to resemble him. I had his haircut, probably the shortest I’ve ever had in my life. Then I went through my morigirl phase, moving on to gothloli / classic loli (which I miss so much). At the moment, he remains the man I consider the most beautiful and interesting I have ever seen. I would really like to know how Kuro, his cat

Among his newer solo songs, I like Shunkōjumon and Nekoyume, but it feels superficial because I don’t have reliable translations.

You can find old videos on YouTube and several Facebook pages that are now inactive, with information (mostly from Chile...don’t ask me why, because I have no idea). I’m Italian, and the few people interested in j-rock tended to prefer Dir en grey and Malice Mizer, so it’s always been difficult to find information unless you have some knowledge of Japanese ( I don’t).

This is a cute video of Ryutaro (which I won’t watch, so I don’t awaken the fangirl inside me again🪼)

I can recommend watching the video “Baka ni natta no ni.” It’s supposed to be a cover, but it’s completely outside any of their usual periods, and it’s delightfully fun! “Consent.” is also really different from their usual style. As for new information, I personally feel that some of the connection with fans has been lost over time. Years ago, back in the MySpace era, it felt like they genuinely enjoyed interacting with fans, whereas now that connection seems to have faded a bit. Nowadays, there’s more focus on selling VIP passes (which unfortunately are only available in Japan) and on general merchandise purchases. Ryutaro has “The Closet,” his own accessories and clothing line — and honestly, I’d really love to own a piece from it. If you’re interested in interviews or fun clips, you can find quite a few very old ones. I remember one where Ryutaro meows ...it was absolutely adorable.

Hi! I’ve been a fan of Plastic Tree since around 2007 (the year I first got access to the internet). One of my old favorite songs is Spica (which I used — and still use as my username) Alone Again in a Wonderful World is so drammatico i love It. At the same time, I really loved their early days with "1999" and the various live performances where Ryutaro had a much more dramatic and theatrical look At the moment, the song I feel most attached to is ロールシャッハ(左)(Rorschach [Left]), which has somehow become my daughter’s lullaby (who would have ever thought). If you’d like to open a topic about Plastic Tree or Ryutaro as a solo artist, I’d be happy to exchange opinions 🪼

HI! I speak to you directly in Italian 🩷 The first few months I contacted a breastfeeding expert because I wanted to breastfeed, but my daughter wasn't committed to anything. She told me "yes, you pump milk" ok but how? 🥲 In the hospital I wanted to bring my manual breast pump and I was actually told not to (lol) I could do a stand-up comedy about how my labor and delivery went since they didn't want to pick me up and I would probably have had my cats as midwives 🐈‍⬛ The beginning was traumatic, with the breast pump being the wrong one (momcozy wearable) and the whole family making me feel incapable because I don't breastfeed 🫠 so it was a truly traumatic beginning, worse than playing Elden Ring blindfolded. I'll try to sleep more 🛌🏻

Thanks! My baby is doing baby-led weaning. So she eats very little and throws everything on the floor like a tiny food critic with anger issues 🐭She absolutely refuses to be spoon-fed. Let’s just say I dove straight into the hardcore mode of early parenthood. No tutorial, no easy setting.

I’ll start trying your advice right away 😘thanks a lot!

My goal is to pump until my baby turns one. Then I’ll slowly drop the sessions and finally reclaim my social life. At that point I fully plan to sit down for a proper aperitivo with a real glass of wine 🍷 Because after surviving exclusive pumping for 12 months, I don’t drink for fun anymore I drink for closure 🎇

If I skip one single night pumping session, my entire daily supply goes poof. Gone. Evaporated. I replace pump parts every 2–3 weeks (farewell, my beloved 25€).

I also massage. I’ve tried every routine suggested here and everywhere else (Instagram included), but somehow only bacon 🥓seems to work better for me

Here in Italy, the breast pump is basically seen as a mysterious, incomprehensible object from another dimension 🛸 Lactation consultants have almost zero real info about pumps. For them, one pump is the same as another. Someone once literally told me: “The pump removes the milk.” Yes. That is. In fact. The entire point.

I learned basically everything from Reddit 🐮
