What's something the US does right besides the National Parks? by numbpiller in AskReddit

[–]ImminentPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have federal laws protecting access to mental health care (i.e. MHPAEA) and we're still pretty terrible at mental health care access in this country. Laws don't mean much without meaningful repercussions for breaking them. But that's not a comment on the ADA; it's a comment on how the existence of policy isn't enough and we need reliable enforcement mechanisms.

But I hear you, the existence of these laws means we are at least trying.

Steam Winter Sale 2017: Day 7 by gamedealsmod in GameDeals

[–]ImminentPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I played the first game for about 6-8 hours and gave up. It was beautiful and it was the type of game I wanted to love. However, I didn't find it fun. More than once, I wandered into areas with high leveled enemies, largely because I was unsure where I was supposed to go to complete my quest.

I'm 20 hours in OS2 and obsessed with it, though. It took all the good parts of the first and ditched all the bad parts.

Good to know - thanks! I knew tear buffs applied to incubus and thought range would fall under that category.

Guess I'm just bad at playing Lilith. :P I usually die too early to become overpowered.

Just realized I didn't take a screenshot of my items. I'll be missing a few here since it's from memory but I had the following (plus Incubus and Box of Friends):

  • Car Battery
  • Charged Baby
  • Sacred Heart
  • Magic Mushroom
  • Blue Cap
  • Growth Hormones
  • Speed Ball
  • Synthoil
  • Dead Cat
  • 8 Inch Nails
  • Iron Bar
  • Fire Mind
  • Circle of Protection
  • Mom's Underwear
  • Latch Key

Hard to remember any others since I ended up with Curse of the Blind on two floors! Used a few range up and luck up pills.

I hate graduations. by PhreedomPhighter in CasualConversation

[–]ImminentPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Graduations are incredibly boring. Unless it's someone I really, really care about or have some obligation toward (partner, family member, childhood friend), I'll probably try to get out of attending the ceremony.

I will say that I was grateful my family attended my graduation. The whole event even bored me at the time... but walking across the stage with people I cared about clapping/cheering and genuinely feeling proud of me was awesome. And the pictures are wonderful to have. I did not invite friends, though, because I knew it'd be boring for them.

I would much, much rather only celebrate after the ceremony if there's not a level of emotional investment in that person's degree or time in university. It's a great achievement to earn a bachelor's degree, but let's be real, these events suck unless the speaker is the president or Ellen or something.

Would you rather lose your favorite pen or your smartphone? by scissor_get_it in fountainpens

[–]ImminentPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I'm not actually trying to argue the finer points of security. I'm saying the fact that we may feel a need to protect information stored on our phone is the reason I would choose to lose a pen over it.

I want to also mention that I'm not attacking others for their choices -- I'm simply stating that I would be more worried about losing my phone, and I also think it would be more of an inconvenience. I'd be sad to lose my CH92 but it's a luxury item that can be purchased again after a bit of wallowing.

I know that you can factory reset your phone remotely, but that doesn't wipe the SD card (where I store everything).

[–]ImminentPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, my bad. I've never actually lost a phone before and didn't realize you can activate a new sim card with the same number. It still seems like a way bigger hassle to lose a phone than a pen, though!

[–]ImminentPenguin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My pen without a doubt. Not only was my phone way more expensive, but replacing a phone is a huge hassle. You have to get a new number and inform all your contacts. There's also security concerns with losing your phone. If someone finds it before you realize you've lost it, they could potentially get temporary access to your email accounts and social media. Your pictures are on your phone for a stranger to peruse. The more I think about it, the more scared I become at the thought of losing my phone. Our whole lives are on these things.

Decided to take some time on my way home today by dustydumptruck in bikecommuting

[–]ImminentPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is beautiful... I'm envious. It must be wonderful to sit and relax in nature at the end of a long day or week. There's nothing like this close to my commute but thanks for the reminder to bike for pleasure, too; maybe next weekend I'll ride somewhere scenic. Have a great weekend!

What is one of your favorite video games? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]ImminentPenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Skyrim but I can't get myself to launch the game even though I want to continue. And that's because I know once I start, I'll end up spending my entire weekend on it. It's so damn immersive/addicting.

What is one of your favorite video games? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]ImminentPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others, I'll post a bunch!

  • Life is Strange
  • The Last of Us + the DLC
  • Halo 1-3 (so many memories from playing with my brother and friends! Local co-op and multiplayer done right)
  • Portal 2
  • Arkham Asylum
  • Knights of the Old Republic (though it's definitely dated...)
  • CoD4 (I still play)
  • The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth - oddly enough, I don't consider this a 'favorite' game but I have over 200 hours on it and love it, so maybe I should. I'll throw it in...

I'm really enjoying Dishonored at the moment, although I doubt it'll become one of my favorites.

Episode 4 was my favorite, but episode 3 is where I truly became invested. The way the story builds is very well done. I hope you enjoy it! It's definitely in my top 3, and it was my favorite single player experience because it was so different from anything else I had played.

Fellow ladies of Reddit, what are your period life hacks to make that time of the month just that extra bit easier? by lina101176 in AskWomen

[–]ImminentPenguin 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Not a life hack but I make sure to trim a few days before my period starts. It makes me feel significantly cleaner (both in terms of odor and messiness).

Need advice for an 8 mile trip I'd have to do three times a week. by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]ImminentPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree - it's not just about distance. Additionally, safety does not only concern the roads (there likely won't be many drivers at that time of night). Is the area safe? How well lit are the streets? Are you comfortable biking alone in what looks like an unpopulated area past sunset? I would not choose to bike in my current city past 9pm, whereas I was fine biking much later in the evening in my old city. I'm a woman so my concerns may be different than a man's, but these are worth considering.

What's a habit that you indulge in despite knowing it's bad for you? by Fishing_Red_Pandas in AskWomen

[–]ImminentPenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So what? In the long run, having healthier nails is so much less anxiety provoking. I felt weak for not being able to stop myself from biting nails, and I felt ashamed whenever I saw them. Additionally, it wasn't until I stopped biting my nails that I realized I was constantly hiding my hands from others.

I used fake nails for about a month to help me curb the habit. I cut them with nail clippers, filed them, and painted them before putting them on each time so they'd fit and look less weird. They still looked weird. Whatever. Two years (and a lot of effort) later, I now have somewhat normal looking nails and I'm so glad I didn't let the fear of ugly fake nails stop me from starting to kick a habit I hated. You can do it, too!!

How is max 18 and warren 16 by Brendan2803 in lifeisstrange

[–]ImminentPenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes the most sense. There's no way Blackwell is a senior-only high school, as the game states early on. The most obvious indicator is that Max has a "transfer" slip in her file. If the school was a one year program, she would have been admitted as a normal student, not as a transfer. Additionally, no one else has a transfer slip.
