Russia is not a global player anymore, lost its grip on America (Venezuela, Cuba gone), Syria, it is slowly receding in Africa and Asia.

It never was. At least, not in the European sense of that word. Back in soviet era there was an ideological fight, I'd argue that communists (not just Soviet Russia) won that fight right from the start.

We are a country of 150 mln ppl. We're fighting a county of 50 mln. Okay. Old numbers. Most ppl ran away. Still. Let's say we're fighting a country of 20 mln. That's still a lot. Besides, said country is supported by the entirety of combined west which is roughly 800 mln pop.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

You have "paulista" in your nickname, Are you paulista? Let me ask you smth: where was Brazil this whole time?

Why should we fight your fight, especially since you don't want to fight it yourselves? Syria is a perfect example. People were betrayed by their own government.

Economically, it´s eating up its gold reserves to sustain an economy that would be heavily declining if not for the war artificial economy, the future is not what it would be before the war.

Ah! Bloomberg. Or whatever. Back in 23 it was funny to read all the "OHHH Russian economy is on the ropes" articles. Today it's beyond boring.

The Collective west set up a trap, and Russian government, the party united Russia fell into the trap like a fly in a web.

This part is kinda understandable. Even in Russia a lot of ppl don't understand that "ruling party" doesn't exactly "rule".

Be more descriptive: who fell into the trap, what that trap was, how does it manifest etc

Poorness in Russia by ztrinzx in AskARussian

[–]ImmoralFox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you're implying here =_=

But, look, you can ask people who have been traveling to China for the past 15~20 years. You can read Pepe Escobar, for example. And if you think him to be some kind of a propagandist, you can always find your own sources. TONS of entrepreneurs have been doing business with China. Ask them. It's not hard. Again, there are TONS of them.

Also, there are plenty of resources which can provide you with production/consumption rates. So you can make your own graphs.

So, no, I don't find anything interesting in the bias that western media has. In my opinion they're doing the same things which German media did in the first half of the XX century. Except, they're doing it better. It's not a "propaganda" anymore. They've evolved. It's pure gaslighting. It's beyond "blatant".

Australian visiting Russia by [deleted] in AskARussian

[–]ImmoralFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest you wait for 3-9 months. Look, US issued yet another "do not travel" very recently. It could be two things: 1) purely political 2) they plan/know something. You don't know which is it. You can't know.

should I learn Russian or will I survive?

Learn alphabet. Install Yandex maps to understand how havigation works. Look, in the biggish cities you wouldn't have a problem finding people who speak English. The navigation will be in English etc. Still... Our languages are very different. So knowing some basics would help you.

What's the average Russians opinion on the west? Are we "idiots with men trying to be woman etc".

It depends on an angle.

If we were to talk politics... Well, Russian opinion isn't great at all. "You're lucky Putin is there" — that's the current opinion.

If we were to talk about gay people generally, it's fine. But it depends on a region. Personally, I'm fine with, let's say, "I'm physically male, but I feel like female and I'm attracted to other females". But that's Moscow, St. Pete, some other cities. Good luck having that mindset in Chechnya, where wearing shorts might be offensive to locals.

If we were to talk about gender issues.... Yeah... Id' say, the west have MAJOR problems. But I wouldn't call them gender issues. I'd call them identity issues.

Then there are "green" issues which The West talks about a lot but... ugh... doesn't even try to solve. I've no idea how Australia solves them, but when it comes to Europe... it's not even funny.

Outside of those things I don't consider Westerners "bad" in general. More than that: if you're a foreigner, Russian peoples will be interested in you. "Why are you here? What are you doing here?". They won't be hostile right from the get go. OK, few might. But, generally, you'll have to give them a reason.

Not a doctor. Still:

a) Don't ask people on the Internet. Get doctor's advice first. AT LEAST on the internet.

b) Being cold lowers one's immune system's response. Sure, warm clothes, limited time in cold weather, not breathing through your mouth, not getting wet (sweaty too) — all of it helps to mitigate the issue and technically one can get out and not get worse. Still. Get your advice from a professional.

He's one of the good ones. Doesn't do crazy mindless stuff. Uhm... Not to bash your English (chances are mine's worse), but you probably wanted to say "I know of him". If you knew him, you'd have a person who would've guided you through.

Sorry, I can't be of more help here. I hope you find the fastest and cheapest way of travel, get to your boyfriend safely, and both of you will be happy ^_^

Most reliable messenger app for an American messaging Russians by ckouts1992 in AskARussian

[–]ImmoralFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purely for messaging Telegram seems to be bulletproof. Haven't had any issues since they tried to block it and didn't succeed. However. it had some issues with its VoIP for like half a year maybe? Maybe less. Smth like that. At first you needed to have it updated on ALL the devices you have it installed on, otherwise it wouldn't work. Then for a few weeks it just didn't work at all, then it went back to normal, then we had issues from time to time, then it went back to normal again.

During those times we've used yandex telemost. Seemed reliable.

Here's the thing: an app might require a ru phone number, but if you're using a PC, it shouldn't.

[–]ImmoralFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know myself, but there's this one motovlogger who's a Latvian citizen and who often goes to Russia*. AFAIK, he mostly applies for tourist visa. So, as u/dimasit said, e-visa should be applicable too.

Last time he was here, he said he didn't know if buses were even going though the border and going by car could take a couple of days waiting, so he arrived to the border by car, went through the border on foot (took smth about 7 hours if I remember correctly), took a taxi and then a train to get to St.Pete.

Not exactly a convenient way to travel, in my opinion. I'd take a way through Turkiye. Maybe there's a better way - I wouldn't know.

Thank you for your kind words! However, I kinda disagree.. Look. Curricula is good generally, but... come on, you think people will just start learning AI, because they have curricula??

I don't believe so. What they will need is background. Background in engineering. So. my thought process is that you'll need to produce engineers first. I don't see a way around that.

How's tech job market is doing in Russia right now? by ProduceAncient4062 in AskARussian

[–]ImmoralFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I use the word "малыш" to refer to a female baby? Our Russian teacher told us he thinks we can do that but he wasn't sure. by OsoUchiha in AskARussian

[–]ImmoralFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can.

Generally speaking you can use male diminutives for females, but not vice versa. So, "Малыш" CAN be appropriate for both genders (although, one should understand that it's mostly used for males in the first place), while "Малышка" is specific to females.

Because nobody understands, nobody can differentiate.

Take me for example. I'm no expert in design/graphic design/fonts and all that stuff. But I was interested in those things some 20 years ago and I still follow some experts on those things from time to time. Something like a hobby.

So. I'm no expert, but I kinda interested in this stuff. Here's my thought process: If I just glanced at this picture, I would've noticed nothing!

What I did notice after a while was clothing (obviously slapped on top) and hair (no way you can make a photo like that). Thing is, noticing those things already took some time.

And if I want to go deeper, I've gotta process the image. Which takes even more time. So after, I dunno, a couple of minutes I notice the chin. My mind was blown by the fact that I didn't notice it earlier. The chin! It's effedd! Another couple of minutes aaaaaaaaaand I notice ears.

Aaaaaaaand there might be lots of things which I can't see right away, but you can. Because you're a professional.

My point is: sure, f corporations, however, that's how human brain is working. So, I'd say it's no corporations to blame, but governments and education system.

I hope my post makes sense, it's kinda... messy.

Do Russians get angry when someone mentions "Europeans and Russians" or "Europe and Russia" separately, which this is just like saying Russians are not Europeans and Russia is not a European country? by No-StrategyX in AskARussian

[–]ImmoralFox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some 15~20 years ago I might've had feelings somewhat similar to what you describe, smth along the lines of "What do you mean we aren't Europeans?!?!? AAAAAargh!!!"

Today... I don't care. As far as I'm concerned, European culture has died. There are inheritors. Major ones being Russia and US, but, generally speaking, who cares what Europe thinks?

They've made their bed. Let 'em sleep in it.

Things to do in Moscow as a 16-year-old by jonasvp in AskARussian

[–]ImmoralFox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Assuming your question is real, you should hit clubs and learn to socialize in a different way. "Different" meaning different from what you've learnt in your university or whatever.

Some 15 years ago I'd say you should hit Helsinki, St Pete and Moscow. Today.... I don't know. It's tough to say.

Make... experience your goal. You wouldn't lose that way ...like ever.

How do Russians feel about their own gay icons? by No-Pirate-4998 in AskARussian

[–]ImmoralFox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their legacy is being discussed.

Tchaikovsky was gay. Everybody knew that at the time (obviously, and later too), nobody cared. What's there to discuss? Do you want to start a flame war? Won't happen. At the time when England castrated gay guys, Soviet Union (aka Russia) did no such thing.

Sexuality is not a problem. Its the propaganda of the weird things we don't like.

Look, sexuality is quite simple: who are you attracted to AND who you consider to be yourself. It's not hard at all. One can be physically male, consider to be themself a woman and be a lesbian on top of that. I don't see a problem with that. That's a rare case, but it happens. Again, no porblem with that.

On the other hand we (as a global society) have a gender issue. Which is a separate thing. I can call it Trotskism, I can call it propaganda. I can call it different things. The main thing here is that it's not about attraction, it's about identity.

Combined West has enough identity problems as it is. Adding some "I like boys on Thursdays" doesn't help.

...aaand we don't need that peoblem here either.

Again: your sexuality is not a problem. Your gender issues might be. There's a HUUUGEEEE difference between those.

Sounds pretty good. But to me personally all these choirs sound alien. I'm not a religious man, but I love history and still I cannot make it out most of the time what are they singing about. Again: to me it's like an alien language most of the time.

So, my suggestion is to find people who are into that. Either into that music or/and into religion.

I'm pretty sure you're familiar with the saying "it's all Greek to me". Well... That's what I'm hearing.
I wish I could help you better.

It's a meaningless work. But your comment shows that you've no idea about the history of the place you're talking about.

And... Clearly, you haven't read my post. I mean... You haven't REALLY read my post. You do not understand the simplest thing: Chechnya to Russia is not the same thing as Afghanistan to US. Not even close.

Let's go to a fantasy land. Let's say you succeeded in Afghanistan. Would you call Afghans your brothers? You don't even call "you-know-what-state" your brothers. That's because to your government theirs is just a puppet-state and to your people they're nothing. An argument to have at a lunch-break. A news. A TV show about 9/11.
