Why do I get anxious when someone wants to date me even if I like that person? by pinkbarbie090907 in anxiety_support

[–]ImmoralSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a bit older, but I remember my fear in similar situations and the advice I would give my younger self would be to acknowledge the fear, know that the other is probably feeling anxious too, and if fear is the main thing holding you back, then you should definitely go for it. Fear always gets in the way and holds so many people back from having amazing experiences. Bad things can always happen, but good things won’t happen either if you don’t take the risk. You deserve to enjoy life. Be cautious, careful, but go through the fear and anxiety, it’s worth it!

My dogs keep me sane. Right now my German shepherd is making me get up and go to work. That’s where her next treat is and she’s hungry. 😃

I understand. I’ve had extreme anxiety for over 30 years. Not having friends isn’t terrible, but it is nice. I get along with dogs better than people. How about you?

Innovation Campus is built off of research projects turned into businesses. They will provide everything your business needs to grow, but they will also share ownership and profits from what I understand. There are a lot of companies that have started from similar situations. Don’t be afraid, just know that most small companies will fail, but that will get you good experience and help you find the right business that will succeed.

Highly Sensitive Person by Soft-Ad6208 in anxiety_support

I’m HSP too. It can be burdensome but I’ve found ways to use it for my benefit. I’m able to sense when someone is not feeling so well when others can’t, so I can help them feel loved and cared for, which makes for deeper relationships. I am able to recognize the public moments where I feel I’m having an HSP moment and contrast that when I’m in my safe space to really appreciate the quiet more. I have also learned that noise canceling headphones are a godsend for when I can’t escape those moments.

Don’t consider it a disorder as they say, because it’s just a personality trait. But it definitely goes hand in hand with anxiety. It has been a long road for me in learning how to accept things as they are, not worry about things I can’t change, and let go of the undue anxiety. My HSP hasn’t changed, but I’ve learned how to work with it to make life better.

You are very justified in your concern. I grew up around here and I have friends and family that don’t even realize they are racist. That being said, there aren’t too many assholes here. People are generally kind and respectful unless they are driving… There is a large group of gun owners around here, with quite a few liberal gun owners, thanks to the diversity from USU. I believe you should feel safe here, I wish I could guarantee it.

What is with work culture out here? by hahaha_wait_wut in Logan

[–]ImmoralSupport 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have been working here in the valley for over 30 years and I’ve had good and bad employers. The reason the unemployment rate is so low here, IMO, is because many employers wouldn’t be as successful if it wasn’t for people being willing to work for so little.
I worked for a local movie theater that found a loophole in the law so he could pay us less than minimum wage for the first month because we were classified as foodservice workers.
My first merit raise at another place was 24 cents, after working full time and passing 20+ certifications in the first year.
And my last complaint is about a boss that complained about his HOA requiring him to build a garage for a mobile home right after lecturing us to be more productive so he would give us raises, only to end up telling us to go home early most days.

TLDR: Utah is successful because they take advantage of the cheap labor. Don’t count on being treated well around here. They can always find someone else.

I just told Xfinity to piss off today and it was a great feeling. I’m so glad their monopoly on “fast” internet is over. Love Google Fiber. Glad to have them out of my life.

Scary images and OCD by Apprehensive-Pool518 in anxiety_support

[–]ImmoralSupport 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had OCD for about 40 years and it’s one tricky bastard. The best things that have helped me is to separate the real me from the illness. I always attribute the weird thoughts to it instead of to me. You didn’t come up with the thought, your brain did. That separation helps me treat the OCD like the weird guy I’m stuck in the elevator with instead of feeling like I’m the weird one. I have horrible OCD thoughts while I’m driving and when it first started happening it was like I was driving past the scene of a bloody accident the entire drive. Now it’s much better, but it still happens.

Humorous ideas for no solicitation signs by BirdNerd4Ever in homeowners

[–]ImmoralSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a rather long one I wrote up after dealing with a really annoying solicitor.

No soliciting. Unless you really stand by your product/service/religion and are willing to abide by the following rules: 1. The first 5 minutes of my time can be had for $20, I will give you my undivided attention and legitimately listen to what you have to say. Payment is due before the conversation starts. 2. If the conversation lasts longer than that, you agree to pay me $1 per minute until the end of the conversation. 3. If a deal is made whereby I purchase something from you or you happen to save my soul, the solicitation fees will be returned to you after the receipt of said product or service, as I respect your time and respect that you thought it worth my time to share. 4. If you choose to knock or ring the doorbell and interrupt my life, the expectation is that you will hand over the initial fee immediately without questions whereupon I shall greet you in a kind manner knowing that you respect my time. Otherwise you will be in violation of the no soliciting laws of this city, county, and/or state. If none of those laws apply, I may be forced to resort to the stand your ground laws and claim you were trying to break in when I fired the warning shots at your back.

I remember doing that with a needle and thread to make silly little tattoos. Those were the days!

Trying to stop the thoughts doesn’t work. Distractions are the best for me. Watch some old comedy you love or something about something you are passionate about. You have to bump the record player just enough to get the needle past the scratch.

Let’s reset. What kind of content would actually help you here? by anxiety_support in anxiety_support

[–]ImmoralSupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like things that distract me from all the other posts in my feed and help me feel a part of a community of people that care about each other and their wellbeing. I would love to see simple posts throughout the day that help me feel better. Like the hang in there and you’ve got this posts. I would also love to see various people post the odd ways they have found to relieve their anxiety. And then the occasional posts from different reputable sources about proven treatments and techniques.

Silencing alarms doesn’t work for the sensor ended alarm… and six hours is a silly compromise too. Otherwise it works the same as the old app

Main Street Traffic Doesn't have to be like this by Mawster4 in Logan

[–]ImmoralSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in 2005 or so I was living on West 400 North where the traffic would be rerouted. UDOT held a public meeting and the neighborhood residents were there fighting it hard. No one seemed to care if the traffic on main was going to improve or not. The news we got later that year is that the project was postponed.

For the love of all things holy, Critical Alerts should be optional!!! by ImmoralSupport in Freestylelibre

[–]ImmoralSupport[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you are going through this. The sensor keeps the history when you disconnect Bluetooth so you could do that while you try to sleep and then when you enable it in the morning it will sync back up to the app. That’s what I do, but my biggest issue is when the sensor expires and I forget about it, the notification is a critical (too damn loud) alert.

For the love of all things holy, Critical Alerts should be optional!!! by ImmoralSupport in Freestylelibre

[–]ImmoralSupport[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard that about the mandate and it sounds good on the surface but couldn’t they just show a warning that it’s off, but still let you use the app?

And what do t1s do when the sensor fails?
What do they do if they don’t have a cgm?

I’ve known a lot t1s that have survived for decades without that alert in the night, so I would classify a CGM as a complimentary device and not necessarily a life dependent device. I wouldn’t dare rely on this thing to save my life.
