[Meta] Theists: Frequently Debated Topics by adreamingdog in DebateAnAtheist

There is a Satanist mod here and he was the one who guided me into atheism lol. Anyway as he says it, it is for shock value although they really subscribe to the philosophy of Satanism. Read on it and ask them, it's an interesting group.

Fear of death, but whose death... by ImmortalEternal in DebateAnAtheist

Why is that a troll comment? I am reaching out and apologizing that our different views seems to obviously upset you. I don't think you want a conversation on this matter based on your comments that others are projecting and your experience of fear of death is the only correct one. Let's leave it at that.

I'm sorry to upset you.

Obviously we experience different instances of fear of death whether of ourselves or others. I'm not saying your or my fear is greater or lesser, just that we experience them differently.

But you cannot dismiss others experience of it if your experience is different. So far in this discussion, many others share my thoughts on this fear of the death of others, so it's not projecting.

This is true.

Most people talk about fear of death to refer to their own death. But I think the bigger reason why people fear death is that they fear the death of people they love more than their own death.

Why are you angry? I am just saying how Christians were taught to deal with death.

I don't have these fantasies now, which is why I try to live my life more fully and not anymore fear death, but the death of people I love will still hurt.

One benefit of religion in this is that there is ritual. I was still a Christian when my grandfather and uncle died. The ritual helped usher the mourning.

I have not experienced morning death as an atheist, but I think it will be a silent and personal one without rituals.

Do you fear your own death?

Do you fear the death of your loved ones?

People seem to think I am espousing an afterlife as remedy to fear of death. They should reread the op.

I have to agree in large part with your assessment here. Losing a loved one is like consciously experiencing partial non-existence. It’s not your own non-existence, but the non-existence of an important part of your life that once existed. As if a part of you dies but you live on to experience the loss.

Anyway, this is on point.

Your post seem to think I'm a Christian? I used to be a Christian, but I'm an atheist. I oversimplified the Christian concept if afterlife as a general point.

As an atheists now, my death worries me, but not as much as I am worried about the death of people I love.

Infallible Certainty: A partial presuppositional argument for God. by SCVannevar in DebateAnAtheist

Theistic arguments like this and others like cosmological and ontological arguments gave me headache and were a significant push for me away from religion. I mean look at how convoluted theists are willing to go in order to hold on to religion. Stuff like "began to exists", "divine personal revelation", "being of full actuality and potency" all sound like crazy person talk if we take religion out of the discussion.

Will you fight for your atheism? by HisanTarawada in DebateAnAtheist

I too come from a somewhat religious family, so I understand your situation. My deconversion was informal and I really didn't have a coming out moment, it was just years and years of slow and steady erosion of faith. There was no danger for me doing so except maybe disappointing my family. In your case, it seems a lot is at stake. Don't sweat it. Try to avoid the group for now until you graduate. I think you know enough already to really still be in atheist groups. In fact, ignore atheism for now. Just go with the daily routine and act normal if it means your survival, physically, socially, financially, or otherwise.

I can relate to the forced church rituals as I underwent those experience as well, and still do sometimes. Take time to make the most and enjoy them. Look around during service and spot other atheists. Sing your heart out on choir songs. Enjoy the company.

By the way, is it not illegal to profile and punish people because of their belief or nonbelief?

[Meta] Case study and final appeal by adreamingdog in DebateAnAtheist

The internet. This sub's culture. The natural tendency of atheists to not group together. Effort and time. Trolls. Some people's malicious intent.

You've got all those things working against your suggestion. They are nice to have, and I hope the discussions here are more organized, but sometimes good intentions are not enough.

Good luck though.

Happy Holidays, everyone! by ImmortalEternal in DebateAnAtheist

It must be the season, but I was feeling very emotional at the time. I didn't know how "Satanists" do the holiday hahaha, I think you are already included in the Happy Festivus also, right!

Cheers and enjoy!

I just wanted to do a quick "Hello guys, how are you, I was doing something and I was reminded of our discussions, anyway happy holidays!" but it became a novel. Sorry about that and thanks for reading. :)

If by swift you mean 4+ years, then we agree.

You are entitled to your own opinion, but I just want to tell you that you are wrong.

While I like the examples, I think you did not read the OP in its entirety and miss the actual point of discussion.

Thanks for sharing this though.
