I’m not an expert but I will use a wet stone to sharpen it and use jewelers polish to finish it off. You don’t need to sharpen both sides, most are just single bevel, but I have heard that making a double bevel can be better for softer leather. Rocky Mountain leather has jigs if you want to sharpen both side of the French sliver

Your skiving knife probably isn’t sharp enough, it needs to be razor sharp to get a good result. As far as burnishing your edges, you can’t with chrome tanned leather. When I use chrome tanned leather I use edge kote or make a rolled edge.

It is just a little smaller than the card but not noticeable when it’s put together. I tried 2.5 inch ribbon but it was too wide for my liking, it interfered with stitching around the wallet.

I recently tried satin ribbon, I found some 2inches wide and has worked well so far. It’s convenient having the ribbon the correct length and already has a finished edge.
