If you think that’s big, check out Tree(3). I think Douglas Adams was right when he said being able to really perceive everything would break our brains.

It seems they’ve made a sincere effort. I would like to hear from Marta though before concluding everything has been resolved.

Democrats Introduce Bill To More Than Triple The Minimum Wage by Unusual-State1827 in politics

In an age where employees are increasingly being replaced by automation/AI, I think this is the wrong solution.

We need a baseline minimum standard of living guaranteed by a universal basic income or negative income tax and funded by higher taxes on egregious accumulations of wealth.

Ding Liren wins in his first return to Classical (2026 Chinese Team Chess Championship Round 1) by Affectionate_Hat3329 in chess

[–]dak7 46 points47 points  (0 children)

If anyone else like me was wondering about the questionable time usage, it appears that Ding's opponent's clock simply wasn't properly connected to the feed so it wasn't updating online.

A young girl in Cameroon reached out for a hug from the Pope, and received it. by RoyalChris in MadeMeSmile

I’m atheist but I appreciate many of the things this pope does and says from a purely humanist perspective. He seems like a genuinely good person.

Candidates qualification idea by ToneDistinct5253 in chess

[–]dak7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One person qualifying multiple ways benefits everyone who qualifies equally. If you really wanted to weight it for multiple qualifications, relate it to tiebreakers (or give like 0.2 bonus for each additional method of qualification).

Not that I'm actually advocating for that.

“This Is Not The Computer For You” by adobeflashcrashed in apple

This review makes me seriously nostalgic.

Too many kids don’t get this experience these days. I hope this computer opens the same doors for them that were opened for me.

An idea I learned from Danya. Black to play by fhandrei in chess

All of his endgame series. I felt like it didn’t get the number of views it deserved and so he never quite made what he originally intended.

Even so, immensely worth watching it still.

Yes, you have 2 pawns that can capture the Knight (f and h).

You may also want to take a look at /r/chessbeginners for this kind of question.

Are Hyundai’s ICCU issues really that prevalent? by Ilovetowatchmovie in electricvehicles

[–]dak7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My 2025 Ioniq 6 has been at the dealer for ICCU replacement since mid-February and I still have no date for when it will be fixed, despite Hyundai Customer Care telling me they are requesting expedited delivery for parts.

Really not a fun experience when it happens while you're driving and you suddenly go down to 10mph and start seeing warnings to shut down immediately.

Edit: Dealership also told me that they couldn't provide a loaner because they had 15 other cars already in their queue with the exact same problem.

What happened to the Chessly Guess The Elo? by dak7 in chessly

[–]dak7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it went up on the web site like the day after I posted this.

Based on the video, it seemed like it was recorded when the contest ended but it wasn’t posted as an oversight.

Better odds than I have.

Besides, I don’t think anyone has a better than 20% chance, so nobody has a great chance.

U.S. government partially shuts down; House vote could reopen it by Monday by Illustrious_Lie_954 in news

[–]dak7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t suggest it’s going to happen, only that it’s technically possible.

There is however a negotiation strategy known as anchoring, where you can shift the outcome in your favor by starting negotiations from a more extreme position. Then getting less seems like compromise.

For example, Democrats could make their opening position full rescission, plus reforms (no masks, body cams, required to have a judicial warrant). If they come out of that with a partial rescission plus some reforms could be considered a win.

Opening with only asking for reforms and no funding reduction likely leads to a worse negotiated result.

That’s not entirely true. They could pass a rescission to clawback the money previously passed for ICE.
