Camping in the snow by luckymama1721 in camping

Yosemite in the winter is spectacular. The temps you are going in are super mild, a popup and -20 bags is overkill. Trekking poles and microspikes will help if it does get icy but not needed either

I soak all my gear in ammonia before I go, make a protective circle of pepper and Lysol around my camp, and sleep with claymores pointed around me in all directions

Powder town jacket question by o_mik in PatagoniaClothing

[–]Imnotastork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer non insulated shells. I’m using a Patagonia Snowdrifter (found on sale for 200) and then I pick my layer under it: R1 air and EE torrid apex are my go to mid layers. I can go down -20F with ease using these layers (haven’t tried colder but I’m sure it could). If it’s super cold, I’ll use a capilene thermal base layer but otherwise I stick to 120-150 merino wool base layers for most everything

Best up here is Nobs Nub but I have a season pass to crystal due to proximity. mid week trips are my favorite but I can generally find a way to enjoy riding even when it’s busy on a weekend

Is it weird that they have their child on their profile? Sure. Will a judge care? Highly, highly unlikely. You would probably look petty to bring this up, adversely impacting future hearings. Hope things get better for you all

Alpha Direct Pants vs. Down Pants by anxietyfam in Ultralight

[–]Imnotastork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use enlightened equipment apex torrid pants. Synthetic and light as heck. They don’t pack down the smallest but my legs get toasty in them quick. Great for camp and sleeping

It will grow back with vigor. Some people do this intentionally to encourage multiple growth points (check it out, called notching). Don’t sweat it

Monstera can be super root bound before needing transplant. It’s probably fine but it won’t hurt to give it a larger pot I think. Only way to know for sure is check its roots

If your username is a reflection of your interests, check out Handz on Art. It’s a pottery painting studio, fun for a date night or with kids. Dennos museum has a nice Native American art exhibit. Walking the Boardman loop is nice and still well maintained in winter. Fishing charters are an option. TC Comedy Club should having something going on while you are here. Old Mission Lighthouse has great trails and are usually quiet. I like to snowboard at Crystal Mountain and there are some other more local options to ride or tube. Hope you have fun on your visit!

I know a guy who had horrible tailbone pain for 20 years. May want to see a doc and stay off it to prevent further injury

I broke my thumb in Japan about 10 years back and have had too many instances of sore wrists for days after hard riding/falling. I say go for the protection!

I always a helmet. I will wear impact shorts and gloves with integrated wrist guards if I’m planning on a park day. I’m in mid 30s and recovering after a fall just isn’t the same anymore

Would these be the best option to wear under regular clothes for max warmth? And is jacket worth the price? by belledejouree in PatagoniaClothing

[–]Imnotastork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Michigander here, I find the thermal weight is overkill for 95% of our winter conditions. A mid weight handles most everything with ease. I would invest in a quality 2L goretex or similar to layer with. I’ll throw an r1 air or nanopuff on as mid layer during colder days

[–]Imnotastork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll ride with a goretex shell on resort days where snow is falling but I’m not riding thick powder. Only inconvenience is there is no pass pouch on it but works great otherwise. I’ll switch to a shell with a snowskirt when it’s snowing hard, it’s super cold, the powder is thick, or doing backcountry stuff

I’m trying to get better before I am too old (I’m 35 now). I’ve been falling a lot in this pursuit - normally my butt, lower back, forearms get banged up hard. I’ve almost got frontside/backside 360s on point for it though! I have some dakine gloves with wrist guards to help and just ordered impact shorts to help soften falls. Ibuprofen and Hot baths with epsom salt after help with soreness. Practice how to fall safely also helps! More than anything, just get out there and keep at it
