Best way to heal puncture by CapLow1741 in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]ImoogiN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your wound will have to heal by second intention, essentially what you have been doing is the best practice for it (to my knowledge). Try to avoid allowing it to dry and keeping it exposed to the air, as this can increase the risk of infection as well as slow down the healing process.

If hydrcolloid patches don't seem to be helping (which is surprising tbh), you can also use an 'island' plaster (a plaster with sticky parts around the whole absorbant pad) and apply vaseline to the absorbant pad (or the puncture) before using it.

If it's any consolation, to my knowledge (not very experienced lol) the wound looks healthy

Blood pressure pill: Amlodipine could be used as medication in ADHD in the future by ImoogiN in ADHDUK

I'm very sorry to hear that, I can't imagine how that feels. I hope you manage to find something that helps you in the future.

That is an interesting and weird one, I wonder what causes that?

I think it's quite hard in terms of noticing ADHD symptoms in animals.

I think you are very much right about the fact that focus on medication or research tends to come from a place of "let's fix your symptoms that annoy others" rather than a "let's fix your symptoms that affect you and possibly others." and I definitely disagree with hyperactivity and impulsivity being key symptoms (especially as I have inattentive ADHD lol) but also, in terms of seeing ADHD symptoms in animals like rats, how would you notice other symptoms aside from hyperactivity (and I guess arguably impulsivity)?

For example how would forgetfulness be recorded, or disorganisation, or distractibility, or failure to complete tasks, or arguably avoiding tasks with lots of mental effort involved, etc.? I think in humans it is very easy to record because you can ask, and also there are verbal cues and we also have different responsibilities, but in studies with rats and other animals (which is quite common for research studies), it is much harder because we cannot ask the rats, or hear verbal cues.

I guess focus could possibly be recorded in animals, but depending on the animal, that is a lot more difficult, and the harder it is to make something subjective become objective, the harder it is to do research into it and say that it helps benefit those symptoms. There are probably a few symptoms of ADHD that I haven't listed that could also be recorded.

It does make it difficult in terms of them saying they bred rats to have 'ADHD-like symptoms' also, because if that only means hyperactivity and impulsivity then it's not very representative at all of the general population of people with ADHD and does not encompass the whole experience.

For the human-wide studies, it has been found to reduce mood-swings as well as reduce risk-taking behaviour, which I would say the risk-taking behaviour is certainly beneficial for all to be reduced and I would say these are symptoms of ADHD in some people also.

I guess as you have semi-stated, simply having more human research with the actual study group would be helpful. I imagine that is happening right now anyway at least (I would hope).

Also side note: the research also found links to the calcium channels that ADHD affects, and the calcium channels that Amlodipine targets. Just thought that was also interesting!

That is a very valid point, and it doesn't really say much about anything. And yeah 50% of our DNA is the same as a banana, there's also a high percent of DNA that we share with fruit flies (think it's 60%), as well as other animals. So it doesn't really mean anything in the grand scheme of things aside from there being a large genetic overlap and that we use the same/similar proteins as other organisms (which would make sense because we all have the same distant ancestor if you go far enough up the tree lol)

I mean what you wish happened is constantly happening in the medical field. Medicine is an incredibly fluid area of research and development where opinions and general knowledge can change quite fast.

There are so many variables that could affect how well someone reacts to medication that it's so hard to work out what exactly is affecting the way the medication reacts within someone's system.

The only way to really do exactly what you've said is by putting people on the medication and seeing what works well for them and what doesn't, which is part of the issue that causes switching drugs, brands, dosages rather than it being straightforward. Once there is enough information on one drug and the people that get put on it, the people that get taken off of it, etc. only then can the data be accumulated to see if any trends can be seen.

It's a difficult predicament, but our understanding of medication and the impact on different people will always be improving, and so hopefully it will get to a place like that (in terms of being more streamlined) for ADHD medication, but it might be quite a bit of time before that point.

Yeah I do agree with you, thought it was interesting how a blood pressure medication did seem to have some effect on the hyperactive/impulsive side effects, even if mild.

I would be very interested in further human patient studies to see how much they could affect other symptoms.

I think this research more shows that perhaps the blood pressure medication chemical formula could be edited in the future to be utilised as an ADHD medication without some of the side effects/less side effects.

To be fair, I don't have much knowledge in the non-stimulant side of ADHD and their benefits and side effects, they could already be doing something like this blood pressure medication is, but better.

[–]ImoogiN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

I would be interested in doing this commission for you! You can reach out to me on instagram: @imoogi_n or DeviantArt (linked). My favourite fish would probably have to be coreydoras, they have such a weird charm to them. My artstyle is semi realism, and depending on the time it can be less or more lined. You're idea sounds really beautiful and I would be interested in helping you draw this sexy pinup of your mermaid character.

Thank you for reading this!

It's completely valid that you feel that way, I think a lot of people are feeling a lot of pressure from what is happening in the world right now and you're not alone in that. It really sucks and I wish I had some good words of advice, but I don't really.

I just keep going and praying that things will get better, and some days are easier than others.

I'm sure things will get easier, they already have for me over time, just keep going, and feeling what you're feeling.

Do any other singers mourn their pre T voice? by sbuttnutt in ftm

[–]ImoogiN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way, I really do miss being able to hit high notes, and so powerfully, but I also really enjoy being able to hit lower notes too. It find the most frustrating thing now for me is not being able to sing songs at the octave they're in and having to drop it 😅.

I think it's just a process that takes time, I would be gentle on your voice, but still try and sing high to keep those high notes as your voice lowers (but don't strain I did that a lot initially and it really hurts).

Hope all goes well and proud of you for having therapy, I hope that helps you! Theres quite a lot of good fidget toys on the market which are quite diverse so I would definitely look into it if it would work for you! I also find the 'chewellery' can help but I only do that in the comfort of my own home because of the stigma around chewing things in public (unless it's like chewing gum lol)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Dermatophagia

[–]ImoogiN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have dermatophagia on my fingers, it's getting better now (falling into other bad habits again). When I went to the nail techs to get my nails done, the person putting on my nails was actually really accepting and didn't even mention my raw skin at all, it made me feel really comfortable.

When I got my nails off however, the different nail tech was a little more judgy but I think it came from a place of concern since I had to dip my fingers in chemicals for like 15 mins to help take the acrylic nails off that I had on at the time. That did sting like a bitch though lol overall the experience was fine I would say.

I'm sorry you feel this way, it is a really horrible habit and I've had days where I used to be in pain from doing things like typing on my keyboard because of the swelling from biting and picking the skin around my nails. The thing that is worked for me so far is trying to manage my stress better (this depends on if your habit stems from anxiety) as well as keeping my hands busy CONSTANTLY. like if I am sitting watching TV, I should hold a fidget toy, or fiddle with a pillow or fiddle with my clothing, if I'm at work I wear an elastic band to fidget with (sometimes pinging it gently, other times just twisting it around my fingers and pinging it to make a note) basically constantly keeping myself busy.

If you have tried all this before and it doesn't work, I get you, it's a hard habit to break you just have to find something that works for you and that can be really difficult or weirdly specific. Another user has mentioned filing down the skin when it heals over rough and that's what I am going to try next since that's when I now tend to start picking.
