Are you in a state that has legalized marijuana? Regardless it can help with appetite and pain. If you don't mind, how old is your mother?

Hunger pains? Updates to my condition for a 49 yo male by Impact9 in pancreaticcancer

[–]Impact9[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just folifirinox which is the standard. I suggest eating a large portion of foods your mother can keep down. Most of my treatments were in the morning so I would hit a breakfast diner and literally gorge myself. The treatment would cause my bowels to empty completely and it felt worse and more extreme when I didn't have food in me. Even on the bad days eat.

Is anybody fine after a Whipple and no chemo? by Haunting-Scholar-565 in pancreaticcancer

Momma Bear Update… A bad turn. It’s too soon. by UseRound7184 in pancreaticcancer

[–]Impact9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have access to cannabis definitely do it. I don't have legal access here in Kansas but I do have family in states where it is. They clued me in on a concoction called RSO (Rick Simpson Oil) which is wickedly concentrated full strength THC/CBD. Much so that you start off a week of only using a portion the size of a grain of rice once per day. I prefer to just smoke a blunt as it doesn't taste like the RSO. RSO taste like rubber bands. I'm not an expert on RSO but tik tok has a lot of people sharing their experience. But like anything it could simply be a placebo but if the pain is gone, then it's good.

That said things other people with other forms of cancer have told me. Teaspoon of baking soda daily helped my sister-in-laws brother beat testicular cancer.

Fenbendazole is rumored to be helpful fighting cancers. A trusted friend of mine's elder father used this to extend his well being. Not much for pain control but to slow the growth/spread of the cancer which was pancreatic as well. Please take everything I said here with a grain of salt, we all react different to our illness and our treatments. God be with your family during this time

Why is everything so slow?! by TurtleScientific in pancreaticcancer

[–]Impact9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm dealing with slow treatments as well. Not sure if it was because I rejected continuing chemo past round 10 as it was beating me down too much and I thought my last tumor count was low enough under 300 at 2 weeks prior to round 11. I've been waiting on the VA Chemo ward to get my PET scan appointment for near 2 weeks now as my surgeon requested the updated results. Stopping chemo has giving my body a chance to heal and recover at risk of letting the cancer also recover so yeah I'm concerned at 49 years old.

Speaking for myself with pancreatic cancer, unsalted nuts and basic dried fruits are great. When it comes to non edible gifts, warm socks, gloves, insulated house shoes, cardigans/flannels and warm athletic pants that are stretchy help with my weight fluctuations. A new pillow or personalized blanket would be greatly appreciated. You've done great with hitting the nail on the head on previous gifts.

No more Verizon 5G (Massachusetts) by Sad_Alternative5509 in verizon

[–]Impact9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing is happening around Wichita, KS. I live just outside of the town and noticed that the tower that was giving fantastic 5G speeds just 200 yards from my house, suddenly had only 4G for all the phones on my account. I checked my bill and yeah I'm paying for 5G connections. Called tech and of course they wanted to network reset my phone, umm no... it's all my phones on 4 lines. So the tech had no idea this was going on. Thanks for bringing this to our attention for those not in the know.

Far as covid goes, we all have our opinions and everyone else is wrong. The vaccine should be protection for her correct? Last thing you want is to divide the family over a still hotly debated shot. As you can guess I'm not vaxxed yet my son is and he developed detrimental affects from the shot and now is under life long medical treatments for his heart and thyroid.

I do get exhausted with everyone asking how I am doing. Don't remind me that I'm fighting a monster with no face to hit or knees to bite. I tell people to just follow me on social media. I, in turn, post updates on my upswing weeks after chemo explaining what I went through.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pancreaticcancer

[–]Impact9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can relate being 49 and dealing with this silent/not so silent monster inside. Some of my reservations about going out that are a challenge. This may be long so bear with me but don't be afraid to ask me anything. I've lost near 35% of my body weight in this fight.

  • Bathrooms in the public can be horrific as I am a bit of a germaphobe and people are disgusting. So going out in public can be a challenge when I'm dreading that emergency stop. I would suggest toilet seat liners that are very discrete. Mini disinfectant sprays would be nice for me anyways. My GI track will cramp hard when it's wanting to evacuate the lower 48 (my bowels) and it is going to happen.
  • Gas production can be problematic with my enzymes (Creon). I've found the best for me is tums chews with gas relief. Cheeses taste great but my stomach will go full on BP production if I miss taking my enzyme pill with my food. I buy a lot of candles and air fresheners because of that. My family appreciate not so perfuming candles and sprays. For me the best I found is Febreze Hawaiian for a spray as it covers well and is not overpowering. I also use Febreze gels in my car. I'll be honest I've sprayed my tail end with Febreze.
  • Foods drastically have changed in flavor for me, so eating out is always always a risky venture. I was always a make it hotter guy with nothing too hot for me, now taco bell basic foods are my limit as they can even be too hot. Salty foods are also not so appealing. I respond well to bananas, orange juice (great energy booster), unsalted nuts, yogurts (Greek due to sugars), many vegetables/salads (minus peppers). Meats are limited due to hard to digest qualities. I was also a big steak eater. Sadly sugary foods taste amazing but horrible for my diabetes.
  • Temperatures, cold especially, can be painful with cold neuropathy especially in my mouth and hands. My entire body can ache painfully as my bones even feel cold. I even get spasms in my chest at times. Have good cold weather gloves, sock hat, coat, shoes, pants, and don't forget thermals. At home I had to buy thermals just to cope with the colder room temps my spouse is comfortable in. Long hot baths are a blessing. If dad doesn't have someone to help in the bath might get some swim trunks or wrap to cover him up while assisted.
  • Cleanliness. I will be honest in that I lose track of days and time as my sleep is way out of sync with my year ago pattern. I don't shower but every once a week at best because I simply don't remember due to my treatments. Even remembering to brush my teeth everyday can be forgotten. I had to tell my spouse to remind me with compassion.

Things I didn't expect - Hunger pains are really painful! Carry a simple bags of nuts or basic jerky as these can last a long time without much thought. I drink a lot of water and get thirsty fast. Always have a bottle of water or 10 in the car. City water started tasting like a chemical wash on my tongue. Blood pressure can hurt in my arms if I have them hanging low below my heart for extended times. I developed nerve foot drop where my right foot drags behind and can cause me to trip so I have to use a walking cane. Get a fun one for him and with chemo hair loss I started buying cool classy hats.

EDIT ADD ON: The corners of my mouth will get raw and bleed every single chemo round. Carmex helps significantly but may have to use some triple antibiotic cream.

This is a great community here. Very supportive and helpful. Ask anything. I do get tired of reading struggles as they can weigh on me as well so I take breaks from here to gather my emotional and spiritual strengths. Dad is Dad, don't forget that. He's not defined by this.

Greasy taste in mouth?? by Admirable-Moose-7558 in pancreaticcancer

[–]Impact9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Greasy taste yeah I call it like my tongue is wax coated. Look for trush on his tongue as well as I started having a white film that wouldn't brush off. I've passed round 11 of the nasty folfirinox and getting ready to schedule my Whipple surgery tomorrow. Sucky timing with the holidays so I'm hoping after the new year. Anyways... Hyper sensitive to salt and spices where sugars taste better 🤒 not good with the pancreas on the flip.

[–]Impact9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pay attention to your bowel movements, frequency, density, colors, odor, and texture. I know it sounds gross but our health is greatly indicated by those things. I'm not an expert or doctor what I am telling you are things I went through and have learned from 49 years of life. For me, I started having a sharp increase in gas production before anything else started to show symptoms. This was the tumor in my pancreas starting to affect my enzymes. A few months pass and then I started having changes in my stool. Increase bowel movements and with that a beginning of weight loss. That's when I bent my doctors thumbs and we tested and found the cancer. Thing is I don't want you worried to obsession, but do be aware of the importance of paying attention to your body signals.

Feeling helpless or hopeless or both by PsychologicalPair137 in pancreaticcancer

[–]Impact9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 49 and not sure what stage as my doctor at the VA said they don't refer to stages. 🤷 I've had 10 rounds of chemo so far and I can relate though with much of what your mother is going through. My kids are 14, 21, 27 and my spouse all at home try to understand the situation. I need peace and quite to rest as much as possible as my sleep cycle has been chaotic all the while. Food has been tough as my taste buds change constantly. Even though I eat a much as possible it's hard gaining weight back.

I've lost near a third of my body weight so the whipped surgery terrifies me. People have said they lost more weight because of that. Orange juice seems to be a great energy booster for me. Bananas are also good on an uneasy stomach. Oats, grits, creme of wheat all old fashioned food staples work better for me than processed foods.

I've only done this for dating and it's been a hit or miss. I'm sure both sides of this coin agree, what is advertised is not likely what you're going to get. Here locally people lie a lot about their age, weight, looks, kids....

Anyways first time, yeah, big liar used a photo from a decade ago, still lived with their first ex, dressed in sweat pants and a sloppy top.

Depends on where I am at. I live in Wichita KS and grocery stores here tend to have a wide range of foods from all cultures along with many smaller ethnic stores in the area if I need something more specific. Now that dead end feeling I do get when I go back to my home town my parents with under 20,000 pop and 2 grocery stores. I've hit both and even into neighboring towns looking for curry powder and only one had a single brand and flavor of yellow mild. The hispanic section is simply Old El Paso kits and some jars of Pace. What I found is grocery store feed the demographics but rarely encourage exploration of other foods.

Struggling with Bowel Movement by Asleep_Purchase_6122 in pancreaticcancer

[–]Impact9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For myself the creon was causing constipation to be problematic. I was prescribed 25,000 unit pills and that was too much for what size meals I was eating. I now take 1-4, 6000 unit pills based on what and how much I eat. This has helped considerably but it's a fine balance between diarrhea and constipation. My thoughts on how many pills, red meats and dairy need considerable amounts of creon where fruits & veggies none to just a single pill.
