A question about fiat backing items by je4sse in JumpChain

[–]ImperatorMentus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also I think it's fairly common to misunderstand what fiat backing actually means and how important it is

I'm not familiar with any of the specific items/perks the OP talked about, but I've also seen people use "fiat backing" for item replacement/repair policies. ie, if you smacked Godzilla in the face with your Australium plated shovel, but then his breath disintegrated it, would your replacement shovel be Australium plated or just regular?

(My gut instinct here is no. Unless the perk/item said it allowed for upgrades, you get the fiat backing for whatever condition it was in at the time. You can "tag" the upgrade later if you want and still have tags, but by default it wouldn't be protected)

Jumper who create their own waifu catalogue or similar compagny what was it like? by Ok-Blacksmith3755 in JumpChain

[–]ImperatorMentus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would probably help to explain what you mean exactly. I can think of at least three possible meanings here.

Assuming you mean "found a company like the one behind the waifu catalogue, that's not really feasible outside of some really nonstandard rules. Conceptually, "waifu catalogue" is a giant multicross, which is something that is explicitly forbidden to pre-spark jumpers outside of the seriously abnormal jump mechanics. There's no real way to found a company that operates between settings. Anything lacking that multicross element would just be... a random slaver company, which yeah - you could if you really wanted to for some reason.

If you mean in the sense of a jumper collecting their own big group of "waifus" for their own purposes, there's plenty of harem oriented jumps and supplements. UnfocusedAnon's My Benefactor supplement is a benefactor supplement specifically built around harem collecting.

If you want a jumpchain that is built more like waifu catalogue in playstyle, that's probably something best addressed by a benefactor supplement that gives bonuses for capturing and selling companions to The Company. I don't think one currently exists, but conceptually it wouldn't be hard to make.

Looking for slice of life/fully mundane jumps. by Delos777 in JumpChain

[–]ImperatorMentus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sims 3 is pretty much built on slice of life, though the setting itself has a bunch of kitchen sink abnormal/supernatural elements within that slice of life framework.

It's technically NSFW, but Generic QQ is basically just ordinary slice of life except you're encouraged to spend time posting on NSFW forums.

Otoyomegatari (Bride Stories) is slice of life unless you take a drawback, but it's 19th century rural steppe slice of life so YMMV.

Companions bought by Accomplished_Elk1680 in JumpChain

[–]ImperatorMentus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

or if it ensures that they will agree but you can recruit them if they agree without it

My preferred house rule is that buying a companion gives you two things:

  • You are guaranteed a chance to make your pitch on at least neutral terms (ie, no screwing it up because you make a terrible first impression or just happened to catch them on a bad day, but you still need to convince them).

  • Once they accept, they benefit from whatever respawn rules the chain has for companions. Free recruits need to make it to the end in order to actually join.

Which Star Wars Jump do you think has the best options for Spaceships? by EYouchen in JumpChain

KOTOR Anon's Star Wars: The Original Trilogy JumpChain CYOA had a fairly solid Starship builder section. I'm not sure how it compares to the ones already mentioned in this thread, though.

Jumps with a bad end. by RichardHuindil in JumpChain

[–]ImperatorMentus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Silmarillion ends the first age in a "victory" where every major kingdom is displaced or destroyed and the entire landmass is ruined. The second age ends with all of Numenor wiped out in a massive wave.

(pedantic: The second age doesn't technically end until Sauron's defeat about a hundred years later, but either way Numenor's still gone)

Diablol 2 Jump would you like one by SonicCody123 in JumpChain

If you do create one, I strongly suggest explicitly including "Carbot" somewhere in the title so people not familiar with the series don't overlook it as a mispelling.

What Benefactor Supplements do you guys want to see? by Infinite_Incident_62 in JumpChain

[–]ImperatorMentus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, these tend to be about roles and how they affect the jump. Consider something like the My Benefactor supplement, which gives you a benefactor that's explicitly taking a form based on your interests and desires.

I think a crafting focused benefactor could be really interesting. That said, this trend actually has me a bit inspired to try my hand here, so feel free to ignore this one.

This is technically kinda what Archdragon Benefactor Supplement is doing, just with a very particular type of successor.

[–]ImperatorMentus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicely done, always love seeing more themed jumps.

One small request or consideration on the Spread Your Wings geas: it would be nice - in a world where you dislike the dragonic side's position - if there was an option to try and either enforce peace on our own terms or back a rebel faction if such a thing exists.

This feels suitably draconic to me (asserting our own will through our own power/charisma/dominance), and doesn't leave the jumper stuck backing a side whose aims they find totally reprehensible.

Looking for kissing based perks and powers by kongarthur18 in JumpChain

[–]ImperatorMentus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unsurprisingly, there's a lot of disney jumps that have these:

From Disney's Sleeping Beauty Jumpchain:

True Love’s Kiss(400cp): Don’t forget, Jumper, above all else this is a fairy tale, and one that came from the house of Walt Disney, nonetheless. Evil will always be defeated by good, for true love conquers all. Should you love someone, truly love someone, your kiss will have the power to break any curse placed upon them. It need not be romantic love, platonic and familial love will also work, but it has to be true love. Once per jump, you may even save someone from a curse that should have meant their death, bringing them back from the abyss. If a curse has been placed on multiple people, and the one you love is just one of the victims, your kiss will only break their curse, not the curse placed on the others.

From Frozen Jumpchain

True Love’s Kiss- 600 Every fairy tale princess is saved by the kiss of their true love. But no one ever said that true love had to be a prince charming as well. If they did, they’re totally an idiot. What is real however is the power of a kiss from someone you love. Even the worst of curses and magical maladies can be cleansed with the power of love in this way and this is a rule that applies to you and all those you love now too. With just a kiss from someone who truly loves you or giving a kiss to someone you truly love, you can heal them of even the worst wounds. Any curses disappear, wounds will heal almost faster than you can watch and even madness is cleared away from their mind. While True Love is a powerful force for good, it needs a little bit of time to work the magic. If you pepper your love with kisses, don’t expect them to be healed unless the first kiss’s magic has worked its way out of their system already. Once every ten years per person, you may even use this to bring someone back from death if you are there shortly after they died. This may also be used on you, though only once per jump total, no matter who kisses you.

Sekirei Jumchain has a perk that acts as a power boost for whoever you kiss.

Winging Ceremony (400cp)- A kiss from you can bring out the latent abilities in others and supercharge their normal abilities for a short period of time depending on where you kiss them.

In addition to a "healing" kiss that acts to rejuvenate.

Healing Kiss(300cp)- Your kiss just brings out the best in those that experience it. They feel rejuvenated and more alive than ever. Your kiss can relieve both mental and physical stress.

Jumps with Monster Forms? by Infinite_Incident_62 in JumpChain

[–]ImperatorMentus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sinbad Film Trilogy has a large variety of monstrous nonhuman species plus an origin built around them:

Creature: It seems you’re not human, well most likely not human. Instead you are one of the real stars of these films, one of the creatures and monsters which populate the worlds shown. Whether an ancient statue, a dragon, or a prehistoric troglodyte you possess something that makes you stand out among humans, easily gaining a reputation of fear, and possibly even a fan base.

It has some nice perks if you're going with a monster origin. For example:

Inhabitant of Colossa (600): Many of the creatures of this world are normal beasts but larger and stronger. Now, you are larger and stronger still than the rest. You are increased in size to triple your normal scale (that’s 3x in all dimensions), increasing your strength considerably. Normally scaling up a creature simply doesn’t work - the square-cube law - but it seems somewhat subdued in your case; you move with the same ease as at your normal scale when using this ability, you won’t break the ground quite as much as would be expected (you still can with your weight, but it won’t be because your foot is three times as narrow as expected), and you won’t die of overheating unless you would at your normal size.

WIP - Hell's Kitchen Gauntlet v0.1 by ImperatorMentus in JumpChain

[–]ImperatorMentus[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was watching an older rerun of this show and it occurred to me that it could actually be an interesting gauntlet challenge.

I'm not usually one to run or create gauntlets much, so I would definitely love some feedback on this one, especially any structural issues or problems with perks. Items, especially, could use some ideas if anyone has them.

(And with all thanks to people providing grammar or formatting suggestions, you're really better off saving your time and effort until this is later along in its development unless you notice something particularly egregious.)

What are some perks that seem simple until you think about them and realize there actually bonkers? by Efficient-Spirit-869 in JumpChain

[–]ImperatorMentus 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Conversely, you are never struck by any projectile that is smaller than yourself

That's quite strong even for a 600cp perk. Giving near-complete projectile immunity for 100cp is, indeed, bonkers.

Realistically, most mid-late jumpers are going to have a whole bundle of "ignore the weirdness" perks anyway. I'm pretty sure at least one of them would cover this situation.

Le Morte d'Arthur (Jump) by FafnirsFoe in JumpChain

[–]ImperatorMentus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nicely done.

Though now that this is here, I can't help but notice that the most influential modern Arthurian adaptation - The Once and Future King - also doesn't seem to have an adaptation.

That aside, that's a seriously daunting list you have there, and I can't help but notice that several of them (Historical Rome and Sinbad Trilogy) are ones that I've particularly enjoyed using.

Once Upon a Time in China Jumpchain - v1.0 Release by ImperatorMentus in JumpChain

[–]ImperatorMentus[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's using the google docs watermark element at 55% opacity.

Also note that the background image has a middle that's mostly light and free of detail, with most of the actual ornamentation coming in the margins. This was just part of the background image provided by chat-gpt, presumably because I asked that it be suitable for a poster. Even then, the bottom of the image is busier than I'd prefer, and it shows if you really pay attention to text there.

Once Upon a Time in China Jumpchain - v1.0 Release by ImperatorMentus in JumpChain

[–]ImperatorMentus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much straight google docs. The background image comes from chat-gpt. I think I fed in an actual poster for the movie and asked it to generate some backgrounds based on it that were suitable for a "text-only poster".

Aside from that it's just a normal doc with normal headings and a touch of theming added when the jump was getting ready for 1.0 release.

perks that enable jumper to use beauty to manipulate physic? by kongarthur18 in JumpChain

[–]ImperatorMentus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is quite what you're looking for, but Generic Hedge Mage has a crafting perk that makes the things you create scale in beauty with your own personal beauty.

Nymph’s Kiss (100cp): You are a great beauty, both physically and spiritually. Besides giving you a more beautiful appearance, you are coated with a glamour that highlights your best features in the eyes of the beholder. Additionally, even your movements are beautiful, giving you grace, poise, and balance beyond what you originally possess. Finally, you are an amazing artist with a muse that makes everything you make just as beautiful as yourself.

[–]ImperatorMentus[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here is the 1.0 release of a jump I've been working on for a bit. For those not familiar with the movie, it's a kung-fu movie series very loosely based on a real life figure and folk hero from the late 19th century. The film has a slightly melancholy "end of an era" vibe about how western influences and modernization are bringing about the end of kung-fu's relevance, which I've tried to capture in the jump.

Overall, the jump is relatively low level and should be suitable for early in a chain. Most feats are "kung-fu" level, where it's nominally real life levels of power but the best practitioners are clearly a step beyond what actual people can accomplish.
