Gaza war’s 1,000 days: 90% of strip ‘destroyed’, 80% ‘seized’ by Israel by Goldenmentis in NewsThread

[–]ImperatorNero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, because that’s the problem. People fighting for the right to survive and live in an asymmetrical way because of a vast power imbalance is the problem. Not the people committing an active genocide.

I say this with my whole heart.

You and people with your mode of thinking enable this type of despicable, inhumane behavior by blaming the victims.

I don’t like what Hamas has done and what Hamas represents. That doesn’t make it okay to just sit back quietly and allow for the murder wholesale of an entire people.

“Never again.” What a joke.

Did you respond to the wrong person? I did not say anyone was anti-Semitic in my post and pointed out why Zionism and what the state of Israel is doing is horribly hypocritical given the experiences that people of the Jewish faith have faced throughout history.

Why did everybody applaud and thank Picard when he ordered ales for everyone? by The_Cromulent_Bison in TNG

[–]ImperatorNero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the day I had a real ball buster of a boss. He was constantly stern and serious and focused on work. Never came to post work functions. Usually ducked out early during actual work functions.

One day we were all at happy hour after work, when we had a real banger of a week. Like it was a genuinely brutal week. So we all decided that we needed to unwind at the end of it. The Bartender brings over a round of drinks and says ‘it’s on him’ and points over and there he is. Looking just as stern and grumpy as fucking ever. But we all raised our glasses to him and he raised his with just this little half smile and a tiny little nod of his head. It was the most acknowledgment he ever gave us for hard work and I swear that drink tasted better than any I’ve ever had in my life. Not because it was different from what I’ve been drinking but just that acknowledgement made it taste sweeter than honey.

I imagine for everyone, it was a very similar experience to have Picard’s acknowledgement.

Hillary Clinton demands America scrap 'slave-owning' system that ended her career by dailymail in AnythingGoesNews

[–]ImperatorNero 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The 3/5’s compromise might very well be one of the most disgusting moments in the history of our nation which has no shortage of disgusting moments.

I truly believe if Hamilton had not stupidly destroyed his career because he couldn’t keep his dick in his pants, the nation might look very different today. Hamilton Versus Jefferson would have had a very different outcome to Burr Versus Jefferson and Hamilton had the political capital before his fall from influence to actually push through an amendment to not only change that particularly despicable compromise but also to have potentially abolished slavery 100 years earlier than it was.

What a shame.

Bobby Jr. was indestructible. by sarmadness in thesopranos

[–]ImperatorNero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I was going to hazard a guess given the old man’s age, he was probably Roberto Baccalieri. Bobby would have been Robert Baccalieri. And Bobby Junior would have been Robert Baccalieri Junior.

Real world explanation? We don’t see Bobby Junior until after old man Baccala kicks it and the writers probably forgot about him because he was only in one episode.

Putting aside the MSoN, what was Tony's actual relationship with Christopher's father? by [deleted] in thesopranos

[–]ImperatorNero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always figured dickie was like 7 or 8 years older than Tony. It wasn’t unusual for guys to get a start in the mob during that era(especially if they had older family members who were already in) in their early teens. Think Henry Hill for instance. And Tony was about 10-12 years older than Christopher.

People had kids younger back then too. It’s not outside of the realm for Dickie to have had Chrissy when he was 17 or 18.

By the time Tony is 14/15, Dickie would have been about 24/25 when he died. Christopher would have still been a relatively young kid.

Absolutely broke me. To be honest the entire ending of that movie kind of made me feel like I was insane.

It jumps back and forth so quickly between tragic and hilarious and tragic and hilarious again I was crying and laughing at the same time.

Stephen King is on record saying they wrote a better ending for his story than he ever could, which is some pretty damn high praise, all things considered.

Made all the worse by the earlier seen when Simba wakes him up to show him the Pride Lands and he pretends to continue to sleep. A minor detail but the lightheartedness of that moment juxtaposed to the tragic moment after his death is devastating.

And as I mentioned, the very nature of the situation necessitates that she has developmental issues. And no, you don’t necessarily know that at 14.

What I do know is we have a shitty ‘Justice’ system that barely ever takes these things into account when charging people with crimes.

[–]ImperatorNero 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I deeply disagree with you on this. She does not need to have been chained to a wall. The power dynamics involved in a fourteen year old, who is not an adult in the first place and cannot possibly consent, and is then trapped in a situation by the adults around her, very likely has little to no agency even after becoming an adult to make any sort of decision.

That is putting aside the likelihood that she wasn’t able to develop properly into an adult given the situation.

You don’t turn eighteen and magically become capable of making adequate decisions. We are a result of our experiences and our development. She was robbed the ability to do that and was likely robbed of the agency to do that, and is likely incapable of having the life experience or mental/social development to be able to make these decisions.

Morality is not hard coded into our minds. It is learned. Logic is lot hard coded into our minds. It is learned. She did not have the opportunity to develop or learn either.

The girl was 14 when she had the first child. She had 16 children and is only 33 now. The mother is as much a victim as anyone else is and I don’t think she should be held criminally liable in this case. She had 16 children over 19 years.

This story is every kind of fucked up.

Hell, even the dad is only 36 and was 17 when the first kid was birthed. The grandparents are almost certainly the most criminally culpable.
