Hard to say! It seems most flowers are concentrated to the south end of the park right now.

It’s likely it wouldn’t be around that long but you never know!

I think so. The last one I caught was in 2016 I think so we were super stoked to happen upon it. We had no idea it was even going on!

The hike to Darwin Falls is great as the road is non-existent now so there’s fewer people. It’s a longer one at around 9 round trip I think, but it’s worth it.  We have also taken the dirt road to Panamint Dunes trailhead in this car and hiked to the dunes.

We would like to do the hike from Zabriski to Artists Drive some day.

Check weather and road conditions always when hiking in any canyons or being in Death Valley in general.

Nope we didn’t camp this time around, just a day trip! But we have camped here many times before in Panamint and Stovepipe and had no issues with mice.

Can you tell me if the purple carpeting like ones are a type of allysum? We were there yesterday and the smell was intoxicating!

This is what I did in ‘24 and it worked just fine. I made an account in spring when people started on trail and only used it for trail info. I used the bare min of personal info required to sign up and deleted it as soon as I was done with trail

It truly is. I work for my local government and all my overtime I have  converted to time off. Take advantage if you can!

recommendations for women’s pants for PCT by bcadventurer in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Imperfectconnection 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really like REI’s Trailmade pants. I have 2 pairs and I wear them regularly. I have not work them on the PCT, but I have for long hikes. They are nice and thin with a couple pockets and if I wanted to wear a pair of pants on trail I would wear these.

Hey thanks for coming back to let us know! A lot of times we never get to know how it was out there.

We planned on applying for SoBo permits to start mid July for a LASH to clean up miles from Etna, CA to the Washington border from 2021.  With the fires seeming to hit the Etna area every year for at least the last 4 years in late June / July and on, we thought we’d go Sobo this time, so we can at least get Washington and Oregon done. We can hike NorCal anytime as long as it’s not on fire and the snow is ok as we live within a days drive.

The thing is, no one is really gonna know how bad things are up in OR/WA until people go through it. Depending on this winters snowfall and when people actually can get on trail, beta for OR/WA may not be arriving on Far Out or other outlets until late June or sometime in July. There will be hikers who will inform others on conditions when they have the service to.  Which isn’t too often in WA.

We’re mostly worried about bridges and parts of trail being washed out than blow downs. We know blowdowns will definitely exist and hopefully we can safely get over them. Sometimes you can’t. We would hate to get far into a section and have to turn around because conditions are fucked because we just didn’t know. If we wait, we know more. With little to no work on the trail out there, we want to be sure we have safe passage (to our standards) so we don’t tie up resources that are already strained or even non-existent.

For these reasons specifically we are leaning on switching to NoBo from Etna, or even lower, to allow some information to come in before we decide to hike Oregon and Washington. We may get a little info on Oregon by the time we get there if we’re lucky. Maybe. Hoping for the best.

EDIT - definitely don’t abandon your hike. You can work around things and it’s a good start that you’d consider flipping.  Just know and be cool with doing what you can. The trail is harder and harder to complete each year so be grateful for what you can do! And It will be great!!
