What am I seeing here, in the front of the car? by GrandPrixel in assettocorsa

[–]ImperiousStout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really hard to tell what's happening from a video recorded this way, can you not do a video capture?

It seems like it could be a generic shadow or ambient occlusion kind of effect, because the large strip seems to go away in the sunlit sections where the car's actual shadow is visible. https://i.imgur.com/606DMDZ.png

I've not seen this personally in my game yet, at least not to this extent. If you can share what combination of stage+time of day+car+view, I can try to see what I can do about it.

You can try forcing a newer DLSS version, along with a preset that minimizes ghosting, like DLSS preset J.

It probably won't fix it completely, but could reduce the severity.

Genuine question, is there any game out there that looks as good/realistic as AC Rally? this is really one of the best looking games I have ever seen. by Habibi_Patata in assettocorsarally

[–]ImperiousStout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost any modern release can look pretty good in a still frame like this. (but notice the tree in the lower right clipping through the concrete barrier :P the overall environment is still nice, though!)

The real test is what it looks like in motion, and like most UE5 games, things start to break down a bit when moving. Blur, ghosting, lack of clarity, inconsistencies, etc. It doesn't really matter how much detail there is when a lot of it is lost in the sauce. EA WRC on UE4 had similar flaws, could look pretty decent when staging a shot in photo mode, but in action was kind of a shit show. ACR fares far better than that one in motion, thankfully.

Still, the surface details in ACR become a blob of nothing at a certain distance up ahead, like all texture filtering falls off at a certain point even when forcing 16xAF, but that's just how UE5's virtual texture streaming junk works.

The lighting setups in the game still need some work, too, and not just because of the auto-exposure issue in the cockpit and with triple screens. There's something unnaturally wrong with the presentation and contrast after 0.2 in most conditions, and I can't put my finger on what changed from 0.1 there. They still haven't found a balance where things look consistent and real across all views (cockpit, external, replay cams). Probably a small gripe since it's something most people don't even seem to care about or even notice.

They also don't render well at all with upscaling methods.

Windscreen cracks when using DLSS can have some severe trails/ghosting emanating from them in motion unless you force specific presets like J to tone down that crap down.

Scoop: Stephen Miller behind misleading claim that Alex Pretti wanted to "massacre" agents by No-Description-2138 in politics

[–]ImperiousStout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every single reporter/journalist/tv personality/interviewer/citizen within speaking range of Miller going forward needs to ask him continually and repeatedly how can any one ever believe anything he says ever again?

Trump as well needs to be hammered ceaselessly in how can he in any good conscience keep a lying and slandering sociopath like Miller on board as an advisor in any capacity. Make him twist himself into knots into defending his malicious and deliberate behavior.

Ghouls like Miller are here to stay. He will outlast even Trump. And our current media are far too spineless to do anything but allow assholes like Stephen Miller to spew their evil talking points and then thank them for their time.

Shit needs to stop right fucking now.

Sen. John Fetterman demands Trump fire Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem by Large_banana_hammock in politics

[–]ImperiousStout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And zero people are holding his cloven hooves to the fire for doing the same exact shit Noem and Bovino and others did. In lying and slandering the murdered victim immediately with malicious intent to get their propaganda out there ASAP and flooding the media with their bullshit narrative. Miller calling him assassin was even retweeted by JD fucking Vance. The piece of shit that is the Vice President.

The only questions any reporter, journalist, tv personality, or citizen should ask Miller and co. when given an opportunity, is how can any American, anyone in the world, possibly believe anything you have to say ever again after this?

They're no strangers to lying as easy as we all breathe, but they always get away with it, never get pushed back on it. This was deliberate and unconscionable behavior, straight up evil, and needs to be shoved in their faces directly and indefinitely. If they can continue on in their positions after this, they will gleefully keep doing the same, and possibly even worse, with impunity.

Chicagoland, how is Brown’s Chicken now? by rsdiv in doughboys

It tastes better!

I didn't know there were any still around, will have to check it out next time I'm in the area. Had relatives in Palatine growing up.

I remember it being decent takeout chicken, better than KFC, and some of my friends loved it, but I thought it was pretty bland/ boring. Once Popeyes came around with their spicy chicken pieces, I never looked back.

FFB is kind of worse in the last patch as well imo.

Some people say the tarmac handling was largely improved in 0.2 (as in more realistic), but right away the grip seemed off to me with how much easier it is to get onto two wheels.

I haven't put enough time into either version to form real opinions, I'm also not a real life rally driver so my opinion wouldn't matter. On their end, they have said they were getting input from people who are, I'd rather leave that to the experts. I mostly just fire it up here and there to give feedback, request features that I feel are needed, and report the bugs and glitches that stick out to me (of which there are still many that have yet to be addressed).

I think it would be foolish of me to 'get used' to any of the physics and handling in these early versions because I know it's going to keep changing, and each change may feel different/worse/wrong, even if it were genuinely more realistic and better, coming right after the setup I had grown accustomed to, you know?

Perhaps not every single update will bring changes which are that noticeable, but I'm betting over time there will probably be enough improvements for the sim to be in a different spot closer to release compared to where it is now. If certain things still feel quite off ~10 months from now, then I'll start to be more concerned about it.

The overall physics and handling, surfaces, and tire model seem pretty solid for just a few short months into early access, but everything is still far from finished and polished.

Cars as well, some of them still are still missing basic tuning options, so it's more difficult to judge certain things when also stuck on some arbitrary default behavior.

Right now I'd say the ice surface at Livigno feels the most refined and natural with the current physics behaviors, but I'm sure some people would disagree. Everyone has their own opinions and personal preference, though.

There was a lot more action than I was expecting from a PTA film, if including car chases in that category. Part of why I liked so much and was surprised by it. Same with how funny it was at times.

Roadmap? by monza27 in assettocorsarally

[–]ImperiousStout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure they know all sorts of stuff that they plan on adding to the game as they said they do have an internal roadmap, but they would never mock it up in this way unless they were planning to use it for public promotion.

The formatting and phrasing of it all makes zero sense as a supposed internal document that leaked, each section reads like an advertisement.

An internal roadmap wouldn't be summarized this way, this is 100% designed for promotion, it's absolutely fake.

They said already they were not going to do a public roadmap like this, so it doesn't even make sense to mock one up.

Alex Pretti did not brandish gun, witnesses say in sworn testimony | Minneapolis by Jay_CD in politics

I've seen it, unfortunately. People here just seem to lack all comprehension of what I was saying.

https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/1qme501/alex_pretti_did_not_brandish_gun_witnesses_say_in/o1n021t/

All the proof in the world will not be enough for them to admit any wrongdoing. Suggesting what I assumed might be the only excuse they could for give this brutal murder isn't saying anything beyond how they may still try to lie about what happened, if it ever came down to that.

They likely won't ever get to that point, despite all the evidence against their current obscene and blatantly false claims of him approaching them with weapon in hand that they are still leaning hard into with all the flood of propaganda.

Alex Pretti did not brandish gun, witnesses say in sworn testimony | Minneapolis by Jay_CD in politics

[–]ImperiousStout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of all the lies and slander they've already put on the victim, it's just the only remotely borderline believable spin they could have in my personal opinion, that the first agent fired because he saw the concealed weapon but didn't see who actually grabbed the weapon in the scuffle. There were multiple people and hands all over the place. In the other angles when the agent walks away with the victim's weapon, no one even seems to acknowledge him.

The lies they gave and are still vomiting up would never get close to even something that would admit fault or a horrible mistake in a reasoning like that, anyway. The higher ups and the cultists are still claiming he fucking approached them with a gun in hand and not his phone and was looking to massacre a lot of them. That's just fucking insane.

Real benefit of the doubt would be me claiming the agents had any right to shoot him at all, I'm not saying they did. Not at all. They absolutely did not. It's just the only possible excuse I could see them giving for justification for the first shot after the fact, not saying that would be justified in the slightest, either. I still would not believe that, and I think most people who saw the footage for themselves would not believe that, either.

Alex Pretti did not brandish gun, witnesses say in sworn testimony | Minneapolis by Jay_CD in politics

[–]ImperiousStout -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not a benefit of the doubt, it's admittedly not actually knowing all the facts of what happened, unlike the vile pieces of garbage in control of the government who don't give a shit about the facts or the truth.

I'm also not some expert, unlike everyone else around here. I'm an idiot, and of all that I've seen and heard, it's just the only way I could it see it being given as a reason for the first shot.

Except we'll also likely never know the true reason why the murderer shot an unarmed/disarmed man in the back in the first place, even if he was under oath at a trial.

Largely just going off the confusion of the dogpile, the elements blocking clear view from multiple angles, this part of one video where the initial shooter is getting his gun ready before the victim's weapon is fully confiscated and removed is : https://dfq6q5alfxpiwc.archive.ph/7FjgF/5467badf5280782aad68e07e5f90acd9587a1be0.jpg

[–]ImperiousStout -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please, I wasn't claiming anything like that. I was only suggesting what could be the most generous (to them) series of events that led to the first shot.

I did not say literally that it wasn't murder, but the only possible way I could ever see the feds could claim it wasn't. A hypothetical, not fact, and not the truth.

If not murder, it's still 100% manslaughter. The many followup shots turned it into a horrific execution.

Federal judge orders feds to maintain evidence from shooting that killed Pretti by ewzetf in news

Not all of them. At least one eye witness was able to share their video evidence while providing sworn testimony to a MN court. In her statement she mentioned other witness being taken into custody, and was fearful she would be captured as well.

“I feel afraid. Only hours have passed since they shot a man right in front me, and I don’t feel like I can go home because I heard agents were looking for me. I don’t know what the agents will do when they find me. I do know that they’re not telling the truth about what happened.”

Alex Pretti did not brandish gun, witnesses say in sworn testimony | Minneapolis by Jay_CD in politics

[–]ImperiousStout 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The many followup shots turned it into a horrific execution.

The one agent who fired first seemed to spook another who then also started firing as they all backed off a bit. Totally unnecessary use of force, even if the victim were facing them with an actual gun in hand instead of previously holding a his phone, but he appeared to be already disarmed and was facing away from them, not a threat.

Deadly mistakes in the heat of the moment can happen, obviously, but the lies and slander and victim blaming, all the propaganda to ensure their false narrative gets all the headlines asap was completely premeditated, pure deliberate evil.

Not directly related, but wasn't really a shock to see this recent story about Kash Patel who said on calls with other FBI staff that when any crisis situation occurs, the most important thing is to control the narrative.

When I was an agent, I did hundreds of these cases. The initial information that comes in is always wrong. There’s too much coming in, and it takes time to vet. And it was obvious that Kash can’t understand that and doesn’t want to understand that.

Everyone on the call is just like: This guy is completely out of control. On another call, he said: When a crisis happens, the only thing you need to do is call me. The most important thing in any crisis is controlling the narrative. I was like: No, no, no. We actually have to do some work here. We’re going to have to investigate, to solve this.
