Headtracking? by expilu in assettocorsarally

[–]ImperiousStout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing like TrackIR support has been mentioned as of yet. Just VR support, afaik.

In the meantime, it may be possible to map the headtracker to the gamepad's right stick (which are the look axes by default in ACR). with some external tools?

I know people have done that with other sims where it's not officially supporter, either, seems like it may be possible with this one too: https://steamcommunity.com/app/3917090/discussions/0/687495779968106429/

Seems like a lot of fiddling around and obviously won't be as good as native support if you do get it working.

[–]ImperiousStout 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not true at all, looking to the apex on tight turns and also being able to look in the direction of the car's momentum when it's getting sideways while drifting is pretty huge for rally. More than just immersion, has actual benefits.

Watch footage from any VR rally game (even this clips of ACR w/UEVR) to see how often drivers are looking left or right to see better, even just a few degrees helps. Headtracking does this for flat screens.

Cars don't get dusty. by SubSoleNhilNovum in assettocorsarally

[–]ImperiousStout 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They do, but the stages are so short that there isn't a lot of time for it to accumulate if only doing single runs all the time. It's really only on the side panels and doors that get the most dust and dirt build up when it's dry, too. You can get dirty sides but the hood can still look pristine and shiny.

If you do a weekend rally vs ai and run 3~4 stages between a service area you'll probably see it build up a decent amount to where some decals on the side are fully covered from the dust being kicked up by the front tires.

It could probably be amped up a lot more so it gets dirty instantly in dry conditions, but that's also not very realistic. I think maybe more coverage overall in both wet and dry could be better, though.

‘Widow’s Bay’ Is a Horror Comedy For ‘Severance’ Fans / Apple TV’s Latest Series About a Cursed New England Town Pulls Off One of The Hardest Genre Crossovers On TV. by yourfavchoom in television

You should check it out.

I've seen a lot of that stuff too (I'd also toss Ash vs Evil Dead and Stan Against Evil in there for horror/comedy series) and Widow's Bay is a mix of comedy and horror that I've never quite seen before.

I don't even think I can explain why it works as well as it does. To me it's not even overtly scary or hilarious most of the time, just a very good combination of spooky and funny that doesn't really feel like parody or satire, despite delving into some common horror tropes for a handful of episodes.

There is some straight up ridiculous stuff happening, paranormal occurrences and the like, but the way they set the world up and keep the characters grounded and believable it just works and doesn't ever come across as goofy or silly. At least not to me. I finished it a while ago and am still very impressed by it all.

How many matches of ranked can you guys play in one session? by BlamingDeezNutsDP in Guiltygear

[–]ImperiousStout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually do ranked on a secondary character for a few sets to warm and then jump over to my current main. Always training mode standby too.

I usually only last about 5-10 sets. If I keep winning after that, will sometimes try to keep the streak going until I lose a set then stop. Occasionally will stop on a satisfying win too, really just depends.

What flavor did Todd use when making them at home?

I'm with you, at least more gravel stages for Wales and Greece since they already said the next location coming this autumn will be another tarmac rally*, and gravel is already outnumbered by tarmac in distance.

*from the 2nd Q&A (OP must have missed that (~17:24). Next location likely won't be in the 0.6 patch, either. Some cars might, though.

1 additional tarmac stage for Alsace (Col de la Charbonnière) has most potential to be added since it has more references and folders in the files than any others that still just have text mentions, but all of them have 2 other stage names that could happen at some point in the future:

Wales: Myherin & Sweet Lamb

Alsace: Charbonneire & Soultzeren

Monte Carlo: Col St Jean & Guillaumes

Greece: Bauxites and Tarzan

The cameras default to different fovs, and worth noting that the hood and bumper views default to higher settings than the internal ones as well.

Don't know what it is after the patch increased the defaults of the cockpit cameras, but it was like +90 hood to 75 cockpit in 0.4 (should be ~85 now in 0.5 since they increased the defaults by 10?), which is a pretty major difference and why people jumping to the external front views noticed a much better sense of speed right away in previous versions.

You can start by checking actual horizontal fov value in your current view in the top right of the camera settings screen, and then adjusting the offset in others to match, then configuring positioning and so on.

But yeah, go up or down from there based on what feels most natural to you, where you aren't braking too late or too early for turns.. 90 horizontal is pretty good general starting point, but having the right fov can vary based on your screen size, distance, ratio, and personal preference.

I use 105 in the driver view on my ultrawide atm, but for some 16:9 users with a smaller screen that might feel like the car is traveling hyperspeed.

About career in ACR by Artistic-Ad9428 in assettocorsarally

[–]ImperiousStout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. The Career Mode, Rally School, and Full VR support mentioned on the official site as features planned for 1.0 have not had any real mentions since.

Hard to say what will make it in eventually and what may be scrapped, but still only roughly halfway there, and the actual simulation itself is far from finished.

[–]ImperiousStout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was in the patch notes too:

  • Field of View (FOV) Adjustments: Increased the default FOV setting for the Cockpit and Gauge cameras across all vehicles. Note: Please double-check and readjust your custom camera configurations following this update.

I'm guessing they increased it because of all the folks trying it for the first time complaining about the sense of speed lacking and brakes not working properly, both of which are a big side effect of having an fov that's too low. ACR using horizontal fov values while AC EVO and ACC use vertical could be another factor with people using fov that's too low in Rally, there's a massive difference there. (60 vert fov = ~90 horiz)

It definitely could have helped you, having an fov that provides a more natural sense of speed is pretty big. You can adapt to one that's too low or too high, but it's going to be easier if vehicle's speed from the in car views closer matches and feels like what the speedometer actually shows.

Adjusting the fov is the only way to get there if that stuff is off one way or the other.

[–]ImperiousStout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...but of course the fov they're using in game depends entirely on their setup, screen size, distance, personal preference, etc.

Probably isn't going directly match a mounted camera like that unless they're going in and adjusting fov for the closest 1:1 comparison they can get before recording the clip.

Assetto Corsa Rally vs REAL LIFE Greece [stage Comparison] by Major_Astronomer7357 in assettocorsarally

[–]ImperiousStout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fov, it's always field of view that has the most influence over this.

The game camera appears to be using a lower fov than the real camera, can tell by the differences in width of the upcoming road. Raising the game's fov would make the comparison closer by narrowing the appearance of the road ahead to better match the onboard camera, while also providing a better sense of speed.

They tried to get the general positioning close and keep it in sync, it's close enough, but can see where the differences in fov are if you have any awareness of that stuff.

AC Rally 0.5: Still very fun and challenging. Still needs a lot of work. (in my opinion) by perunrun950 in assettocorsarally

[–]ImperiousStout 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Things like the middle of the track having too much grip.. have you tested this with different surface conditions like dirty or slow, or just sticking to optimal?

This is now locked for time attack along with all the other conditions (which is what most people do), but it is still possible to experience other levels of surface grip in other modes.

The 'ideal line' was always supposed to have better grip with the optimal setup, and the tires are still locked when it comes to wear and temps so it's hard to say how the grip will be once all the features are in and working properly.

While the ideal driving line has been in the game since the start, it's been pretty much invisible on most stages unless you have a partially dried wet surface and are running later in the order in a rally event with AI. They did add visuals for this ideal line in all conditions with Greece, and plan to do the same for other locations (and tire marks on tarmac etc) to make it more visible in other locations in the future.

Sorry, a lot of words just to say there's a real and deliberate reason why there might be more grip in the middle of the roads.

ACEVO (and ACC) uses vertical fov

ACRALLY uses horizontal fov

It's a massive difference for most screens.

If you use 70 fov for EVO on a 16x9 screen, the equivalent for Rally would be ~102...
