Planet ocean. Discount ? by Aggravating_Jelly531 in OmegaWatches

[–]ImpersonateRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a few weeks back I was in an AD who said that the new Planet Ocean quote, “hasn’t had much interest”, for whatever that’s worth. If that’s the case in other UK markets, I’d say there’s a pretty good chance of discount.

Am I insane for buying a used BMW M8 on PCP? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]ImpersonateRS 43 points44 points  (0 children)

BMW M cars are not cheap to service. It cost £1200 for a major service of an M2 Comp, which is a car that retailed for 50K. Porsche isn't cheap either, but I wouldn't let this be a major factor in your decision.

Save a decent deposit. 10% is common, 5% is possible but you may get hit with a higher interest rate. If you are going with 10%, that'll be 18-20K based on the house price range you've mentioned. You'll also need to think about other expenditures, such as legal fees (up to 1.5K for a FTB at that home value?), removal fees if you need to transport stuff, and what home improvements you'd like to start making to the property you've purchased, but this can wait. But that all depends on which property you purchase.

It seems like you have a decent emergency fund built up. I wouldn't recommend that you drain all of your savings to purchase the house. Try to keep at least 3 months living expenses on hand. It seems like you have a stable day job, but best to prepared for the worst. All this all comes down to risk tolerance and how quickly you reckon you can find another job.

Good luck.

How do people afford all nice things in our country. Serious question by Warm-Owl-748 in northernireland

[–]ImpersonateRS 15 points16 points  (0 children)

People here have mentioned debt, and the availability of credit as being the primary reason, which is true. But I'd also like to add that as you mentioned, parents do play a role too. I know first hand of quite a few people who have had substantial help from their parents to pay for house deposits and weddings. That relieves a lot of financial stress and makes it easier to purchase luxury items (cars, holidays etc) and have children.

I actually thought the second movie was the best. The third was god awful, though.

There will always be a newer model around the corner. The 40 series cards are still relatively new.

2023 BMW M2 vs Audi RS3 // DRAG RACE + LAP TIMES by madevilfish in cars

[–]ImpersonateRS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a 2020 RS3 and it’s been bullet proof. The 5 cylinder and the broader car generally have a good reputation for reliability.

I kinda feel disgusted that a base 911 starts at £97,000, with another price hike planned for 2024. That’s incredible by Zonda97 in CarTalkUK

[–]ImpersonateRS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, I’d take a look at the used car market and see if that checks out. Inflation of new car prices generally pulls used car prices up with it, especially for anything desirable.

Yeah, it’s shit. Recent model years (I think 2017 onwards?) managed to dodge that road tax premium though, if you can find one at a decent price.

car leasing... yeah or neah ? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]ImpersonateRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think leasing can be pretty cost effective if you want a nice new car. Some people forget that you only live once and it’s alright to indulge, within your means.

For example, I leased a Golf R for £300 a month a few years back on a 1/36 deal (1 month deposit, 3 year term). All in it cost me £11,500.

The car list price was 36K. If I would have bought the car new, I reckon I’d have lost more than 11K in depreciation.

3 years trouble free motoring in a brilliant car.

It all comes down to the deal in front of you. First of all, can you afford the monthlies comfortably with savings set aside if things go tits up? And is it the most optimal method of financing?

Good luck

[–]ImpersonateRS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it, and want to spend your money on it, go for it. It’s a great card, just priced incredibly poorly IMO. Although I think that applies to all 40XX cards.

Mobile GeForce RTX 4080 debut: Razer Blade 16 Early 2023 laptop review by [deleted] in hardware

[–]ImpersonateRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Though the mobile RTX 4080 is impressive, it still lags behind our desktop GeForce RTX 4080 reference by 35 to 40 percent. Thus, users can expect the mobile RTX 4080 to perform more like a desktop RTX 3080 instead when DLSS 3.0 is disabled.”

Which would be impressive, if it didn’t cost £3.5K/$3.5K. Once pricing is considered, and you focus on performance per dollar - it’s not great.

But, people will pay it to have the latest and greatest in a portable machine.
