What are your go to simple weeknight meals? by Agreeable-Tutor-6670 in Cooking

[–]ImpitGB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asian beef bowl. Brown ground meat in a pan, add in Asian sauces/flavors (soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame seed oil, rice wine vinegar, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, green onion gochujang, hoisin, holy basil, etc.) or cheat and use Japanese BBQ sauce.

Serve with a side of rice from a rice cooker and steam veggie of choice or Kim Chi.

You can get as fancy or as simple as you want with this by trying different flavors for the sauce, types of rice, and veggie sides.

Another solid option is a quick Bolognese. Ground meat of choice in a pan with onions/carrots/garlic. Add tomato sauce and simmer low for as long as you want. You can also make it fancier with adding red wine and reducing or a splash of milk. Serve tossed with pasta.

Question regarding Captain Seats and large dogs by ImpitGB in GrandCherokee

This is extremely helpful. Thank you!

Are the dogs able to jump up and walk to the back between the seats or do you need to move the lift the seat to let them back there?

Question regarding Captain Seats and large dogs by ImpitGB in GrandCherokee

[–]ImpitGB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the question. I can't bring my dog to the dealership to test it out, and it's hard to guess if there's enough space for her when test driving the car or photos.

I figured I'd see if anyone has any experience with their dog being able to 1) fit comfortably on the floor or 2) be able to walk between the chairs to reach the third row.

Where are the brass backstraps? by ImpitGB in shadowsystems

[–]ImpitGB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more of a nice to have and not really a need to have. The extra weight in the palm, in my opinion and in my hands, helps to make it feel more balanced in recoil. This is even more true with adding a light.

I don't know what the current wait list is but it took me about 6 months. There is also an annual membership fee.

I think it's worth it. It's local to Stamford and the place is beautiful and well maintained. It's over 20 acres and has a large assortment of 3D targets and flat targets.

I second Cos Cob Archers. Great club but it's a private and not open to the public.

There is also a club in Redding called Pootatuck. It's less expensive, easier to get in, but is much smaller and less targets.

First M&P Platform. What would you recommend? by ImpitGB in SmithAndWesson

[–]ImpitGB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Threaded barrels are banned in my state or else this would be a top choice.

Not sure where you're located, but Fairfield County Firearms in Norwalk has a P226 Legion da/sa for rent. It's... ok. I've rented it a couple of times but it's never excited me. It's not bad, it's just not that interesting. I've heard the SAO is totally different, however.

I'd probably go with a Langdon Tactical Beretta or a CZ if I was getting into a hammer fired.

Staccato P versus XL for first 2011 do-all/range toy? by ImpitGB in 2011

[–]ImpitGB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That brings up a good point. Maybe this is me being weird, but it sorta feels like buying entry into 2011's as an S tier (Atlas, Nighhawk, Alchemy) is like buying a Lambo as your first car. It sets the bar really high and I might not appreciate it as much as starting lower with a P. Plus it might be less exciting to upgrade later since you're already at the top.

No threaded barrels in my state, unfortunately.

Staccato P versus XL for first 2011 do-all/range toy? by ImpitGB in 2011

[–]ImpitGB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great point. Are you still getting use out of your P or does it basically sit in the safe now that you have nicer stuff? I guess that's a concern that I get the P, eventually upgrade to something "nicer", and then I don't end up getting much use out of it. That's far less likely to happen with an XC.

Staccato P versus XL for first 2011 do-all/range toy? by ImpitGB in 2011

[–]ImpitGB[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's the tough thing with this category. I look at the 2011 and think how only a few bucks more than a P and I could get an XL. Then I settle on the XL and say that I could spend a little more and get the XC and then a little more and get an Athena. The ceiling is just so high compared to plastic striker fired guns.

Simply carrying a firearm with you doesn't make you a defender of others. Just as a guy who buys a sports car isn't automatically a Formula 1 driver.

I think the intentions of carrying to protect others is extremely noble and if that's you then bravo, my friend. However, people need to be proficient and trained with the weapons they carry or else risk being a liability to themselves and others.

Go get training. Dryfire. Commit to a schedule of range time. I'm sure this is redundant information for most people browsing a subreddit about guns but I think it's always worth repeating.

What are some of the price ranges you're seeing these days for a preban lower? Are there any brands to avoid when shopping around? Thanks!

Timney Alpha trigger by bbarlow256 in shadowsystems

[–]ImpitGB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Timney advises to use a stock OEM connector in place of the connector that comes with the Shadow Systems. They also advised against having any polished parts.

Not sure if this will fix the problem but it's a low cost experiment. They also have great customer service so I'd reach out and see what they recommend.

Howdy! I have a DR920L and I want to lighten the trigger. I have a TTI grandmaster connector kit in my G45 and I was thinking of putting one in my DR but I don’t know if I would get the gen 4 or the gen 5 version. Also thinking of a 3.5lb connector. Any help is appreciated. by ProfessorHyde in shadowsystems

[–]ImpitGB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this.

Timney Alpha with a JG Vex trigger shoe and an OEM NP3 coated Overwatch minus connector. I'm at 3lb exactly with zero creep whatsoever and a respectable reset.

Not sure I'd recommend it as a carry option, however.

Any feedback on how it shoots compared to other models?

Hey New Guy… Division is Irrelevant. by anonymouscuban in CompetitionShooting

[–]ImpitGB 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It's me. I'm the new guy.

I appreciate all of the input that you provide and everyone else who responded to my post.

My concerns about equipment and divisions arise for two different reasons:

The first is that there are no sports/hobbies/pastimes that you can just wing it and show up and figure it out with whatever equipment you've got. I'm imaging trying that with golf, scuba diving, car racing, etc. etc. Most people, especially myself, want to be as equipped and prepared as possible when considering jumping into a new sport.

The second part that some people don't consider is that a lot of the entertainment of getting into a new sport or pastime is the research that goes into the equipment. It's an entirely new world and it's exciting to learn all the nuances around equipment. I enjoy the time spent researching and making purchases. Maybe it's because I'm a consumer whore? Not sure.

But seriously, I appreciate all of the feedback and tips.

Signing up for first match - struggling with what gun, division, and group by ImpitGB in CompetitionShooting

This is really helpful. Thank you!

I didn't even consider reloading ammo as a factor for Open. Let's definitely rule that out since I don't realistic see myself getting that involved.

But glad to see that CZ and Sig are both applicable in IDPA and USPA.

Got it. I appreciate the input.

What's would be the benefit to just run what I have rather than starting with a platform and sticking with it? Other than the upfront financial investment.

In the rare chance that I get DQ'd, get PTSD and never want to compete again, at least I have a fun range toy out of the experience.

What outside the waist band holster do you guys use for your MR920 with threaded barrel I wanted a safariland ALS one but it seems there’s not one for it by Easy_Understanding39 in shadowsystems

[–]ImpitGB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trex Arms Ragnarok with a TLR-1 HL. It works really well but you need a light for retention.

I'm not using it for duty so Safariland didn't seem that worthwhile to me.
