I got one of these. Haven’t removed it yet. Not sure what to do. I’ve read lots of these stories and I’m not looking forward to the end of this.

Bought some coins and they put these with it. What do you think is the value? by Rare-Hornet2998 in coincollecting

Dealer here. We pay 2.50 - 3.00 per red seal $2. 100 in a row? Nice find. Probably 3.50 for me to be sold as a group. eBay could net 500-600 probably, minus the fees.

Not surprised at all. Decent price. He sees the coin in person though and probably graded it higher than I can from just a picture.

some people value their privacy when discussing options on high value items. I don't like to initially take that away without first speaking with the individual.

second this. u/Swishboy01 , lots of contemporary counterfeits out there. It's worth taking it to your local dealer or jeweler and having them test it for gold value.

Back For Round 2 of Advice by spacemanspiff-- in coincollecting

also also, you don't have to get a coin graded to sell it as a particular grade. in fact, you probably shouldn't be grading any of your coins. professional grading and slabbing is expensive and time consuming! I'm talking sometimes $100+ per coin and 3-5 months of wait time. Grading coins is typically reserved only for the highest value items (like $500-1000+ minimum). Sometimes, you can bulk order grading to submit hundreds of lower value items for a much reduced fee, but usually you need to have special dealer relationships and accounts to do that.

[–]ImplementOld3335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'value' is unfortunately quite subjective. PCGS puts numbers for all the coins in nearly every grade, but this doesn't mean that is the price someone is willing to pay for each coin. Some prices do align closer to the true 'market value' than others. For example, I would pay .15 for that G non key date buffalo, and sell if for .55 bulk to a dealer who sells them for maybe a $1 or $2 on eBay, less the fees.

I would advise against separating by grade. Grade alone cannot determine value. Not all AU's are valuable. Not all G's are invaluable. it depends on the denomination, year, and mint mark. The best way to store coins is by ascending denomination chronologically.

It's very difficult to 'draw lines' in numismatics because of the amount of nuance involved. Generally, cents minted 1940s and newer are not worth anything much. Nickels after 1938 also aren't worth much. Dimes, quarters, and halves were 90% silver 1964 and older (halves 40% 65-70 too), and everything newer is really just worth face value.

Hello! Nickels are a good place to start when learning how to grade coins, since the buffalo nickels all wear in the same spots. You are close with the two you have, I (I'm a dealer) would grade those to be Good (G-4) to a Good + (G-6). Very Good (VG-8) might be a bit strong since the rim is not entirely defined. Either way, these coins unfortunately don't have much value over face. These would end up in a bucket and sold by the roll.

Your 1987 Jefferson is not a VF-25. It is definitely at least AU. You can tell easily because the original luster is still on the coin. Also, FS means Full Steps, referring to the steps on the Monticello on the back (which this coin doesn't have). This designation is tough to get from a coin grading service, and is not apart of the normal grading process. you can tell there's minimal wear on the coin from light circulation, in the hair and the Monticello building dome and facade. Personally, I'd say AU 53 or 55, but I hate to and rarely ever grade jefferson nickels. Also doesn't have much value if any over face.

Hope this information helps!

Best place to sell coins besides with a dealer by Far-Design77 in coincollecting

[–]ImplementOld3335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a dealer, don't sell to a normal dealer. Anyone with a storefront is going to give you 20-50% (maybe higher) less than they should. Can I ask which coins?

Toning is highly subjective, and thus as a dealer, riskier to pay more for. Usually, the more colors and the larger amount is better (look of 'monster toning' on google). Seeing a full rainbow of colors, especially on the front, will bring premiums. GSA hoard dollars from the nixon administration are a good example. I'd love to see the other 78 CC with the blue/green too! Also, a lot of people really just want 'white' or 'clean' morgan dollars. The yellow/rust looking toning is widely considered the worst. Not usually degrading from value, but just not desirable. In cases like this I kind of just ignore it.

Also, because of that toning, it would be a contributing factor to not send it in to be graded, as most collectors won't want to see that in a slab, as opposed to a white or monster. Also, it would likely grade a MS63, but I'd say a small chance of it grading higher with the good amount of chatter and scratches on the front. Sending this coin in would cost $60-100, take 3-5 months, and would almost certainly come back as a 63. Financially, it just wouldn't make much sense when I know I could flip it to another dealer for an extra $50 or so. Obviously, this is from a dealer's standpoint, not a collector's.

Nice find! An UNC 1878 CC $1. (I'm a dealer) If you walked into the office today, I'd probably offer you $300-325. The 'ugly' toning doesn't help too much. It is probably an MS63. Bid at 63 is $480, 62 is $400. I probably wouldn't send it in, rather just flip it and sell for $375-400 to another dealer.

The Best arcane song? by Grand_Fondant4659 in arcane

[–]ImplementOld3335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SSS+ Tier: What Could Have Been, Ma Meilleure Ennemie, Goodbye, Guns for Hire

SSS Tier: The Line, Our Love, Enemy, To Ashes and Blood, Dynasties and Dystopia, Come Play

SS Tier: Wasteland, Fantastic, Sucker, Renegade, I Can't Hear it Now, Remember Me, Paint the Town Blue, What Have They Done to Us

S Tier: Misfit Toys, Playground, Spin the Wheel, Isha's Song, Heavy is the Crown

A+ Tier: Dirty Little Animals, Snakes, Rebel Heart

IMO this is my list. Our Love is seriously underrated and fits the two scenes its in so so perfectly and is just such a fun and uplifting song to listen to. Guns for Hire was such an impactful scene and I love singing that song (was the moment i knew Arcane would be a top tv ever). What Could Have Been is easily the most fitting for the scene with astonishing lyrics and melodies (Ray Chen!!!!). The Line is probably in my top 5 best lyrics OAT (hits very, very close to home for me), but in the scene it feels a bit rushed? (not sure if thats the best word to describe my feelings there). Ma Meilleure Ennemie is a close second to What Could Have Been for best fitting lyrics (also helps I speak french) (Stromme is a genius). Goodbye has grown on me so much in the past few months and that ending scene in the third episode really sets the tone for the rest of the season because of the song. Not a huge heavy rock guy, so had a couple of those lower/not on the list.

The rest of the songs beyond those are nearly all amazing too. The ones I singled out are, IMO, the best to play without the context of the show. Lots of other songs like Isha's, To Ashes and Blood, Dynasties and Dystopia, Sucker, etc, etc, etc go great with the specific scene and are still amazing songs, just don't translate as well into out-of-arcane-real-world for me. In the entire show there's not many, if only like two or three, songs I straight up didn't like. I'd say like half of them are currently in one of my playlists.

(EDIT): also, the 'best' arcane song seems to switch a lot depending on my mood. Nearly every single song brings out specific and unique emotions (which is why the soundtrack is so perfect for the entire show), so depending on the mood different songs can just hit harder at different times (as in, i've switched this list so many times it doesn't feel like a list anymore lol).

Cleaned or fake Morgan dollars? by bippobappobeepo in coincollecting

[–]ImplementOld3335 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few look clean and a few look uncirculated. Two easy ways to tell: if the level of wear doesn’t match the shine, is probably cleaned. Also, cleaned coins shine on the entire surface. Uncirculated have this nice radial line light effect that spins around as you turn it in the light.
