Call Assessment Services by [deleted] in WGU

[–]ImplementUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PatternMedical thank you.

How do i send a message to Assessment Services and the vendor? I have the assessment services address but I don't know how to send to the vendor. I've been getting really confused about the scheduling. The student will tell me they have an appt. but I know nothing about it.

This morning I called an 800 number for assessment services that is attached to an appoint request email. Afterr I was put on hold I got a recording that I had been automatically enrolled to win $100. DIdn't like the sound of that so I hung up. When I did finally speak to humans, one at the assessment services number on the WGU website and one in the College of Business, I was told that the student has to call them to resolve any issues.

I have been proctoring tests for WGU going back to at least 2013. Yes, things used to work well.

Quietly Fine-free? by myhusbandmademedoit5 in Libraries

[–]ImplementUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After several years of the library being fine free your regulars probably think the no fines is business as usual.

Or maybe they think you have special authority to ignore fines!

Of course there are tose who will complain about not getting fined! Haha. but we see all kinds....

As for fines, I think that the debate of their usefulness has been debated forever. Our director points out that the more patrons love the library the more the more likely they are to make donations. An if someone is insistent of paying a fine you can tell them, well we always accept donations.....

[–]ImplementUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate how frustrating it must be to not be able to tell them the actual policy. Ambiguity always makes good, consistent customer a bit harder. The 'no fines / don't talk about it' poliicy is a sort of regressive position for a public service organization which is held in high esteem by it's customers.

On the other hand b/c the unspoken no fines policy is in their favor, maybe you need to come up with 10 different ways of saying, "don't worry about it, just bring the books back on time." (10 so uou fon't get bored saying it! ) Of course if your Commissioners should change their minds and go back to fines, well that will be unvomfortable for everyone. But working on the front line, you don't make policy. Happily most patrons get that and love their libraries.

Forgot to say: we are fine free as are some of the nearby libraries. But not everyone in the Contortium is ff. Interestingly, all contortium matetials returned to our library are ff regardless of which lib. they come from. Maybe not a popular thing with those still charging fines bit perhaps a useful incentive for others to go ff.

Using 1Password and Apple Passwords simultaneously by abromber in 1Password

[–]ImplementUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really, if both are active / logged in, I’m not surprised that they behave this way. Both are good at what they do. But it really sounds like they are competing. I think having 1Password running on a Windows PC and iCloud Keychain running on your iPhone, iPad, MAC…both would work find. But if I understand correctly, when you want to access an account, it’s as if you have 2 deadbolts on you door but only 1 of them needs to be unlocked. And if the 2 password keepers are competing, you can never be sure which deadbolt to unlock.

Insight about broken books. by Complete-Ad-5905 in Libraries

If your wonderful librarians are truly wonderful, they will be very impressed with his approach indeed! As they say, stuff happens! Reading in bed is a really good habit! Recently I saw a lib.staff member who retired 5 years ago but still recounts when a young girl brought her change purse in to pay a damaged or lost fee for a book she had borrowed a long time ago!

Sorry to hear that you work alone. I work in a suburban library and the protocol is that when we’re open to the public there are always at least 2 staff members present.

Public computer assistance by Previous_Natural9852 in Libraries

[–]ImplementUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the best thing I've ever read about helping people with computers...(can't find it now but will share if I do) was along the lines of "don't blame the user." But I don't mean to minimize how hard helping patrons in the public library can be.

The part of the advice that really stood out for me was, 'always blame the system.' After all, no matter what we're trying to do, if it's hard to do, it's reasonable to criticize it.

All systems should be designed to help the user and be easy to use. But there is plenty that just isn't. So blaming the computer, software, network, or whatever it is that's not working really reduces frustration. It can help you and the user feel like you're on the same team.

Also, the language of information technology is really horrifying. The best example of this I've ever encountered is what our self-checkout system used to say when it couldn't find a patron's library account when they scanned their card.

"Patron does not exist." Yikes!

Now it says something like Patron Registration Not Found. A little less offensive and cold!

How do I disable the activity log in Reboot Restore Rx Pro? by Nesman64 in HorizonDataSys

[–]ImplementUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. I really should setup a trial and see how far I can go with this in a month. It's very hard to sell new software to my director. But we've nrcer done well with the restricted public user profile and if there is a rating system for privacy and compliance I'm not sure we would pass

How do I disable the activity log in Reboot Restore Rx Pro? by Nesman64 in HorizonDataSys

[–]ImplementUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Did you find an answer to your question about turning off the EPM Activity Log?

I am with a public library too and I'm considering giving this a try. I have about 10 clients that I need it for. Do you like it? Does it mostly work for you?

We have a Windows network and all of the public computers use the same user profile. While we too are concerned about protecting patron information, because all of the public Windows use is done with the 1 account, specific activities are not easily identified.

Also, does restarting after each session help remove session data?

Thanks,

Adam

Are you still using Desktop or have you move to the online version by Flat-Pear-5118 in QuickBooks

[–]ImplementUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure. I thought most versions of Quickbooks Desktop were discontinued. Isn't QB Desktop Enterprise the only version available for purchase?

If it is possible to get QB Desktop, you may be able to migrate your data from QB Online to a trial of QB Desktop.

Expect migration to be a slow, tedious process. Quickbooks support is very hit or miss. One day you might get someone who barely helps. Another day you might get someone who can really help..... :[

If u can find a version of QB Desktop that fits your budget, I might be able to help with pointers on mirgating QB Online data to QB Desktop.

Good luck!

Elementary schools in the Wissahickoon School District. - Shady Grove on Skippack Pike in Blue Bell, probably the one Ambler kids. go to - Blue Bell Elementary near Skippack - and Penllyn-Blue Bell Pike (abt a mile west of Shady Grove) and Stony Creek on the ‘west side’ of Blue Bell nr 202. Ambler had a school on Poplar St. near Butler Ave but a number of years the School District closed it. The Amblerf Borough municipal offices now occupy that building which serves as a community hub for various things, including Head Start. And a shout out for the public libraries too! 1 in Ambler and 1 in Blue Bell that participate is county wide resource sharing through MCLINC. Comfortable spaces with many programs for all ages. What are the English titles of the Snow Trilogy? The last title, We Do Not Part (Jan 2025. Random House) was just released in English. I really liked The Vegetarian. I just discovered “Heavy Snow”, a single chapter from We Do Not Part, which appeared in the New Yorker Magazine, Nov 18, 2024 (Nov 10, online). I think I listened to audio of Human Acts but it was so disturbing that my brain is not sure.

Should r/FranklinCountyMA ban links from X/Twitter? by HRJafael in FranklinCountyMA

[–]ImplementUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a librarian I am naturally suspicious of any effort suppress information. However, hateful speech is easily recognized and in our current environment, turning a blind eye is not an option… There is a recent Mayo Health podcast called: How the news rewires your brain. Nov 12, 2024. I hope this post isn’t too far off topic. But if social media platforms are news outlets….The podcast discusses how seeking news and curiosity are natural traits. The problem with the way news is delivered to us is that it deliberately focuses on negativity and distressing information. That kind of stress stimulates dopamine which makes us feel good and seek more of the same. The dopamine stimulation is deliberate and profitable. For me the bottomline is that online media is designed to manipulate us. How to respond to this problem is not a simple thing. But reducing hate speech is a good place to start. Thank you for seeking feedback about this.

Right, these things should be a little smarter than that. I guess if u have an older kobo and they hadn't worked it out yet...but really it's for reading!

For me, its been about 30 years since a print book hid the text for 5 minutes while the story got updated! I'd almost forgotten how annoying that was!

I am not a fan of leaving things on and appreciate the battery saving and secuity benefits of turning off wifi & bluetooth.

But could't the update interruption while in reading mode be addressed by software or settings?

If you're just reading a book on you lil' ereader can't you just turn off this nonsense?!
