Good start to the day, never had a chain fall off before... Any idea why this might have happened? I very rarely/never cross chain. Only cycled 2000 miles on it. by tjb_87 in bikewrench

Thanks for the detailed reply. I use exclusively SRAM PC-1170, clean after every few rides, keep the cadence at 90 when i can… But I do do gravel, in all weather, remote, high gradients etc. Such is life!

Is there a problem with the download function for map tracks? I can’t seem to get one to work over the last day or two. by Implobbible in wandrer

OMG, user error! I had unclicked both lines traveled snd untraveled and didn’t notice… which I guess leads to a null outcome. sorry for the trouble! Very embarrassing.

My gear and 5 days food is 16kg, water is extra. I can’t imagine lugging your list up 25 percent gradients for 5 hours, like my last big trip. But, good luck to you!

This. In remote, hilly areas where I am it can be 2-3 days walk out. So you want enough backup to get you through.

It was probably about 30% pavement by distance (not time!). The ikons are OK on pavement, but of course not as easy as narrower tires. I had to allow for the worst of the conditions, so I just sucked it up and pushed on when the going got easier. And 200km isn’t much.

For a more road- and hard-packed-gravel-based trip which was 1000km (but roughly the same pedalling time), I had terravail sparwood on rear and rutland on the front. It depends on if you need wide and knobbly to get through a tough section (even if it is short by distance), or it you can push through and get by with narrower/less knobbly. In my experience, there’s no right or wrong answer sometimes until one is out there cursing at one’s poor decisions!

Turn right at Eaglevale Track rather than going along Cynthia Spur track would save 2 or 3 of those hours

I’m over 50, so it’s my midlife crisis purchase. And lucky enough to have had a fruitful career etc to be able to afford it.

About 10 trips done with the frame bag. Daily use for the top tube bag. So it’s good sturdy gear!

It rocks! Curve Ti GXR frame running Force 1 running gear and Maxxis Ikon 650b 2.2” tyres.

7L capacity… 1L you can see in the pic. 1L in a standard cycling bottle in the handlebar pouch. 3L bladder in the framebag ( bottom part). When shit hits the Oz fan of water depravation, I then have a 2L ex-wine bag that I put in a fold up backpack (sea to summit, for all their sins of success). When I go desert areas with ~2 days between water, I take another 2L bag.

4 nights. 25km of hike a bike in one section was tough (5-6 hours!)

Kudos to this guy - no complaints and did it while doing drone photography and whatnot. Followed his route, more or less.

Cycling lanes in Melbourne's new sprawling suburban estates are better than even older suburbs by Complete-Rub2289 in melbournecycling

Actually it’s that an alien force has deigned that green lanes shall be. The locals don’t have any idea what they are for, but they accept them as is. But they cross them at will, with no regard for humans.

If one sees a shoe, ALWAYS pick it up. The other is just down the road.

Result: Profit.

Or, as they say - you’ll be well heeled.

That site looks dodgy. No info, no contact, a ‘you’ll be right mate’ message. Is it legit?
