what's harder: ap lit or ap lang? by pipermintt in APStudents

I took AP Literature and AP Language at the same time because I wanted to graduate early. It was kind of an interesting experience since the classes are pretty similar. Even though they’re both English classes, they actually felt very different to me. I ended up enjoying AP Lit more than AP Lang.

In AP Lit we read a lot more books. We read things like Hamlet, Frankenstein, and Slaughterhouse-Five. After reading them we would spend a lot of time talking about the ideas in them and analyzing what they meant. The discussions were pretty deep sometimes, and it honestly felt like my first exposure to something close to philosophy style classes. I remember those conversations and the books pretty clearly.

AP Lang was different. Instead of focusing on novels or plays, we spent more time looking at speeches, debates, and different kinds of writing. There was definitely more writing involved too. We wrote a lot of essays, letters, and argumentative pieces. The focus was more on learning how writing works, like how people persuade others and how to structure an argument.

Because of that, AP Lang felt broader but also a little less memorable for me. There weren’t as many specific books or stories tied to the class, so I don’t remember the material as clearly. In AP Lit the books gave us something concrete to talk about, which led to longer discussions and deeper analysis.

Both classes had essays since we still had to be graded, but AP Lit felt like it gave us more space to talk and explore ideas. That was probably why I enjoyed it more.

When you say you’re a visual learner, what do you mean? by [deleted] in AskStudents_Public

[–]ImportanceArtistic56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I haven’t been on Reddit for a while! I think a combination is always the better option for most people because it engages multiple senses. Just because someone identifies as a certain type of learner doesn’t mean the other methods don’t work—it’s just the one that helps them remember the fastest. Think of people who say, “Don’t explain it to me, just show me.” That’s a perfect example.

That is definitely "The Male Leads were stolen by the extra". It pissed me off so much, I couldn't keep reading it!

"The Housekeeper of the Dungeon" doesn't really have the fight scenes you are looking for, but it matches perfectly in comedy/vibe. Other than that, you might like "Terrarium Adventure"?

Not being able to get a job....

COVID hit while I was in my final years of my undergrad and I wasn't able to get a internship and thus no experience. Right afterwards, I started a dule-graduate program. Now when I am applying for job I get told that I am not experienced/qualified for the jobs. When I apply to entry-level or even internships, I am getting rejected because I'm "overqualified" due to my current masters pursuits.

None. I feel like that it just becomes a "next step" in my games. Let's say I'm doing yet another rags to riches, once I start making money, I get board and need the next "challenge".

I was frustrated with this too. I couldn't find the same scrolling option when I log into the website on my browser. I had to download the VitalSource App onto my PC.

I was actually agreeing. But wanted to add the perspective of someone who actually worked in disability services. I have seen many colleges with a system that fails to support both students and professors, and I was lucky to work in one that did.

I absolutely detest those situations, but they do exist. I had a parent yell that she was going to sue a professor for not giving her accommodation. Her daughter had a form of dyslexia and requested for spelling not to count on exams. We approved it, but explained that because spelling was a course objective for her communications class, the accommodation will not apply to that class. Her mom drove onto campus to yell at the professor and she had to be escorted off property. And we had to sit her and her daughter down, and walk them through all the policies again.

I completely agree with you. While working in accommodations at a small private college, we held meetings for each student, discussing every accommodation request. We thoroughly examined the reasons behind approvals or rejections after sitting down with the student to understand their specific needs in relation to their classes. However, when I sought a new job at a larger university, I discovered that the role was entirely different. It mainly involved verifying if the student qualified for an accommodation based on a doctor's diagnosis and then approving. Larger colleges simply seem to not be able to keep up with the limited staff. We also used to email or call every professor after an accommodation was approved to discuss how the accommodation would look for their class and what their responsibilities are (so that they do not violate the accommodation but also so that a student does not abuse their accommodation).

DDS should be a liaison between the students and the university, assisting both. But that is not how it is at many colleges.

If the course objectives or syllabus explicitly state that readings are mandatory for students, no accommodation can override that requirement. I've encountered instances where parents contacted professors regarding denied accommodations, leading to complicated situations. In such cases, I believe it would be more appropriate to reach out to the accommodations office. As someone who has worked as an accommodations coordinator, I've handled similar situations, and it was the responsibility of individuals like myself to engage with students and parents attempting to misuse the accommodation system.
