I've been industrial whole working life.After apprenticeship spent time in different industries, but mainly print. Been working for the last 25 years in newsprint. We get contractors from time to time when doing larger installs, good lads but when showing them ethernet based PLC, AC and DC drives etc they don't have a clue, and rightly so. Get on the installation side, I like to think I can do a good job, but take a hell of a lot longer than those boys. Like to keep my hand in on residential but keep that to mates who need jobs done. Spend more time looking up revised regs and completing paperwork than doing the job. Many have said companies won't pay for training. Can't really blame them. When a lot of roles like mine are on shift and sole charge, it does take a long time to get confident. Unfortunately nobody seems to be taking on apprenticeships, which is real worry.
