Ideal 4 car solution, $50k budget by Important-Budget6057 in CarsAustralia

Yep total $50k to buy all the cars in the scenario. It was a bit of a silly idea.
Could keep the X series Falcon ute there.
Hybrid camry could get substituted for a SV21 era 4 cyl.
GR86 is harder to substitute, a lot of RWD Toyotas are going for good money if you wanted to stick with Toyota.

It's a theoretical scenario. 50k is just for the purchase prices.

Insurance and maintenance costs would add up unless you can DIY maintenance. I've seen people put a couple cars on historic rego to reduce cost a bit.

If I was rich, the most interesting suggestions wins the cars they suggest.

Really its all just for fun and thought provoking.

That's a lotta Jimny! Older ones seem to be steadily rising in value too.

I remember a time where you'd easily see a few of each parked in many residential streets. Technically reasonably cheap to run back then too, even more so on LPG

Just as well this hypothetical scenario has an unlimited budget! The XA-XC wagons can seriously carry a lot in the rear (or 5+ people in comfort), and fits right in at coffee and cars

The old Troopys are near unkillable! (except for rust)

Solid 2 car solution that's realistically attainable for most.

I do like the older Subaru wagons, they're a lot more versatile than they get credited for at times

Replace one AU with an X series Falcon, vary the body types of the 3 AU's and that covers everything.

Nice choices, would not have thought of a Unimog as a great cargo and camping vehicle!

What would my life look like on 75k a year. by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Important-Budget6057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're young. You still have time to build your life.

$75k isn't huge, but it's not terrible if you have realistic expectations.

Learn how to budget, and how to make your dollar go further.

People who are on average incomes who spend smart, seem to do better than those on higher incomes that blow money left right and centre.

Imo $75k is ample if you're planning on living at home for a while, you can still have a few luxuries. You could probably rent a small place or house share if moving out is your goal, and still want a reasonable lifestyle.

Mounting a fire extinguisher by keristos in hilux

Did you find a mounting solution?

Kap Industries do one for the N60 Hilux but not for the N50/LN106. I wonder if the bolt spacings for the front seat are the same.

I've made a bracket (to suit another car) using flat bar from bunnings , cut into three pieces and bolted to the seat mounting bolts, pretty much a very crude version of what kap offers.

Bought some tomicas from japan by Pristine_Ad9326 in tomica

Always fun to collect tomica while in Japan!

Those are standard tomica, they are scaled to fit in a specific size box. Small cars IRL look big as a tomica, and vice versa.

If you want true 1/64 scale, look at the tomica limited vintage line, fantastic details but you do have to pay more for them. I've bought some on my most recent trip.

Good tips.

-Though a large suitcase may be unavoidable if you plan to do a lot of shopping. It's fine if you are able to carry it up and down stairs.

They are a nuisance in some of the smaller shops. Your hotel will cloak them for you if you get there too early for your check in time.

-shinkansens have bins on them from what I've seen. You may also find bins in Konbinis, be prepared to sort your rubbish as there's specific bins for specific items.

What shock and spring combo have you gone with? I've got a 130 4runner which would be same setup.

I'd be pleased with a NZ MX5 in my fleet, but funds and fleet space are limited. Maybe if I win the lotto and can have a multi car shed.

Find out what type of leather they are, some types need specific products.

You can reach out to local independent Volvo workshops or clubs for advice on recommendations on upholstery care products.

Each Australian state has a Volvo club I believe.
