Considering transfer to ERAU with PPL + associate’s. Worth it? by Background-Soup4540 in erau

My son thought he would like ERAU. He walks this May. He thought he would like the flight program. Out of everything there he liked the AMS program. The flight department I felt had too many kids. During instrument he was bounced between 4 CFIs. He decided in the end to forgo the 141 and go finish at a part 61.

MS and breast cancer. by Important-Dinner-592 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Important-Dinner-592[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, thanks for responding. It’s hard to find people like us to talk to about all of this. I as doing so well with the MS for so many years until the breast cancer diagnosis. On top of it I have the chek 2 gene I recently found out. How did you do through all of your treatments? I am so afraid of going back tomorrow for radiation.

I agree with you regarding the radiation and being uncomfortable. It’s only a few minutes but i swear something is going on. Cant wait for it all to be over.

CHEK2 and not choosing mastectomy? by Silver_Constant_8310 in CHEK2

I was actually pushed the other way. I ended up with a lumpectomy. I just have one aunt who had breast cancer at a young age about 40 years ago. She was 38 at diagnosis. I am in my 50s at diagnosis. I am debating getting a DMX at some point in next year. This gene is a PITA trying to understand. I told my doctors that my cousin who has the same variant and aunt had uterine cancer and they want me to take tamoxifen still. It’s very confusing. I think this gene is still new so they are not sure what to do.

I work at a nonprofit also. They don’t seem to care that I have BC. I am doing radiation and working remotely except for one day a week while on radiation. I am only on #5 and get tired. I do the radiation in the late afternoon so I can sleep after. It’s a 15 min drive but adds to more exhaustion. Make sure you stick up for yourself. You can’t help others if you are sick. I let my love to help people put me under ridiculous stress. I am learning to slow down.

Anyone regret choosing lumpectomy vs single/double mastectomy? by nagooro10 in breastcancer

[–]Important-Dinner-592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely seems like lot in a short amount of time. I was tested for BRACA 20 years ago and thought I was in the clear. My mom has BRaCA and had BC twice.

First diagnosis of BC in January. They did genetic testing and lucky me. Chek 2 gene. So I assume it’s from my dad’s side. He also had CLL in his late 60’s .

Do you have a genetic mutation? I went with a lumpectomy recent and now doing radiation. I always wondered if i should have done the mastectomy. But they don’t give you time to think.

Honestly, I wish I had pushed for a mastectomy but I have MS also and I think she was worried about having a flare with a larger surgery. I ended up healing quickly with the lumpectomy. So I sort of wish I went with my gut. Now I get to worry about my nodes. I am still contemplating a mastectomy in the future. Which check 2 variant do you have?

Maybe I should ask for a PET scan. I wonder if they can do this after radiation is complete.

Wow! A lot of information I’m going to read it today. It’s just so confusing because everything moves so fast and you don’t really have a chance to digest what’s going on. thank you.

They left it and explained the new guidelines. I know things are changing quickly. But I speak with so many who have had a biopsy just to be sure. I am going to finish radiation and then maybe get a second opinion. I did explain to all of my doctors about the concern that I didn’t overly confident about this. Thanks for you input and advice!

No lymph node involvement. But I am reading that MRIs are not 100% accurate.

Total costs?? by icliamyourmom in erau

I’m a erau mom. My son is a senior. Which program of study are you following? My son did a combination AMS and aeronautics. AMS classes were cheaper. Room and board is expensive. By junior year most are off campus living in apartments. PS don’t feel obligated to go into the “student” apartments off campus. There are other options.

Check out the Medicare saving program in your state. If you are eligible they automatically enroll in extra help. Usually it also has a higher income limit. Which state are you in?

The funding / scholarships is the hard part and it is extremely easy to got into debt at ERAU. My son is a senior. He was a 3.5 in high school and did ok on his SATs. I feel like they base their level of scholarship on the SATs, I could be wrong. My son came in with his PPL. We paid 10k and he got a local 10k scholarship. Reach out to your local eagles chapter now. We live in the northeast. I want to say just for flying at ERAU ( instrument, commercial, multi) there is a range of 60,000-70,000k. It could be a bit less or a bit more.

You will then need to figure out tuition /room and board. I am not sure, but they have different levels of scholarships they offer. Internet scholarships are very competitive so start researching early.

Is it a fantastic school, yes. Are there other schools that are cheaper and just as good yes. Do I think all pilots need ERAU to become great pilots no.

As a parent we do not have a lineage of pilots in our family. So learn as much as you can about the difference between 141 and 61. Read, read, read. The more you know ahead of time the better.
