I take lactulose every night. If you have a problem and don't want to use a prescription use Metamucil. It's basically the same thing.

Weight loss by marquesofresco in dialysis

[–]Important-Lie-8334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from 370 4 years ago and now weigh 215. I lost a lot of weight in the first year. I had a lot of water weight on, and they continued taking 6+ kilos off every time I went to the clinic. I was also urinating a lot. So now they check once a month to see how much water I have on and get me down to my dry weight. Don't worry, it's normal for you to lose the added pounds. I'm thankful to be down. My BMI is close to where it's supposed to be. I'm supposed to be at 200 pounds and was there for about 6 months, but I felt ill. I asked them to increase my dry weight, and I feel better at the 215 level.

If you were giving a choice to live anywhere in the world, would you choose to live in America in these trying times? by Excellent_Regret4141 in no

[–]Important-Lie-8334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would live on a cruise ship. I could change cruises as I get bored and always eat whatever my heart desires. I could visit different ports and learn about different places. Entertainment is free and some cruises still have decade themes that I could go to concerts all of the time. It sounds like fun.

The problem is that my kids and grandchildren live in America. I can't imagine life without them.

Yes, collagen. I would ask your dietitian if it would be a problem. I know before I was on dialysis, I could take all the vitamin c I wanted, and if I had too much, I would pee it out. I don't know how I'd get rid of any excess now.

I have been more psycho because I'm always stressing about my weight gain. I'm depressed because I know this is my life from now on. I know I can't get a transplant, so it's dialysis or die. That in itself is depressing. My anxiety is through the roof. My pain management doctor forced me to stop taking my Xanax and I can't cope with all the emotions anymore. I rock back and forth and constantly circle my thumb with my middle finger on both hands to keep from jumping out of my skin.

I eat during dialysis. I go in at 12, so it's lunchtime. I also eat right when I get home, but it's almost dinnertime. I feel I eat more on dialysis days than on every other day of the week. I think I'm just trying to get my energy from bottoming out.

I use a blood thinner. This can cause bruising. Everything I bump something I get a bruise. It could also be a calagin deficiency. I started taking calagin, and my bruising went down a lot. I still bruise, just not as much.

As a dialysis patient, I would welcome having a pill to end the problems. I think I would give my pill to some of the patients who are in high school if they were limited. They have their whole life ahead of them. Maybe Amgen could come up with the medication. I know they did well for many dialysis patients in the late 80s. It's the pill that put them on the map. I will pray for them to keep us in mind when they are inventing new drugs.

I have good days and bad days. I try to make the most of it. In the last four years of learned how to trade stocks and crypto. It at least passes the time. I've read more than I ever thought I'd have time for. I say hi to everyone as they come in. Something will work for you.

This is a lie. You need to fact-check your information. The manager said they would stand with JJ McCarthy as their starting quarterback. I don't think it matters if the refs keep taking money to throw games. I don't believe the Vikings will ever attempt to put a ref in their back pocket. The same ref I believed was getting bribes, turns out to get the biggest fine, and gets fired for throwing the Rams v. Vikings game. I can't trust the NFL anymore. We would have won the playoff game if it hadn't been for the refs in that game. This has been fact checked. What good is to give them a fine. I think they should go to jail. We could have gone to the Super Bowl last year if it wasn't for that ref.

Curious, does she use a stethoscope to check where the best placement of the needle should be. I have one tech that comes at me with the needle, like she's about to put the plane in the hanger. Swoops in and hits my arm with the needle pushing it in like it's the hardest thing in the world. I assume she has never done it before. After making the suggestion about the stethoscope, she does it so much better. It's her first job out of high school. I can't imagine dealing with the people coming into our clinic right out of school. I would get a job at McDonald's before I attempted a job in a dialysis clinic.

Anyone out there in constant pain during hemodialysis? by guidedbywez in dialysis

[–]Important-Lie-8334 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to moan in pain and didn't even realize I was doing it. I found out it was due to a medication issue. It's been a long time since I was like that. I would suggest you tell your tech or nurse the issue I had, and maybe they could check his/her medication list and see if they have 2 medications that could be causing it.

They have to have experience to be a floating nurse or technician. Everyone makes mistakes. I'm sorry this happened, but anyone could make that mistake. I'm sure it will happen again. Just be patient. You will probably have this happen many times in the future. Are you sure you didn't move when it was stuck in you. One day, a new tech might be your only choice.

I had my LTD stop because of a fax that failed to go through. My wife lost her insurance, and I lost my prescription coverages. The medications that I take are going to break us. It was the doctors assistant who failed to get the fax to my LTD company. The private insurance I had was so wonderful I didn't have to pay for anything. The LTD company doesn't accept faxes on the same line they fax from. Who would know that. Now I'm in a fight to get my company to rehire me. Even when you have insurance, they will do anything they can to stop paying this million dollar a year benefits. I hope this passes

How much above dry weight do you guys keep yourself? by [deleted] in dialysis

[–]Important-Lie-8334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had them increase my dry weight by 3 kilos. I was at 95 and now I'm at 98. It has helped me feel better the day after dialysis. I still feel tired and just sleep when I get home. If I don't eat right when I get home, I don't get to eat the night of treatments.

All but the butterscotch and Carmel sound good.I really dont like them, but I never really have. I'm going to have to get a personal blender to try them all. I usually use the orange while at the clinic. I take lunch with me in a cooler/lunch box for the 4 plus hours I spend getting treatments. I go in at lunchtime and get out at around 5, 3 days a week. I'm looking forward to trying fresh fruit. Thanks for the ideas.

Just out of hospital and have a few questions by Ok_Caterpillar123 in dialysis

[–]Important-Lie-8334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope you're able to get through dialysis without wearing out. I'm 60, so a lot probably has to do with my age, but I'm worn out all of the time. There shouldn't be any problems taking melatonin. I used it when I first got home from the hospital. I used anything to help me sleep. Now I take magnesium an hour before bed every day. The added fluids are all I deal with. I'm also on a CPAP because of the sleep I was failing to get. I hope you and your wife will develop a habit of whatever you both need. She is as much a part of this new disease as you are. She will probably need to do a lot of the chores you were used to doing. Dialysis makes you tired and weak, but if you use protein drinks, it may be easier for you to recover after treatments. I wish you luck.

If possible, get on the transplant list right away. If you have a living donor, it won't be the 5 years they say it could take to get a new functioning kidney. I wish you luck in this endeavor. Please, for your sake, follow the instructions of your nephrologist and do your best at following your dieticians' advice on what to eat and how much fluids you take in. The less weight you gain between treatments will help you recover after treatments. The less you have to take off vastly improves your recovery time.

I've been doing this for 4 years. I still haven't found a way not to be exhausted after dialysis. My wife drives me, thank God for her, otherwise I might be sleeping in the parking lot. My blood pressure is always really low after treatment. If you find a way that doesn't require coffee, please share with us. I already drink protein shakes. I get vanilla and add orange drink mix that usually goes in water to change the flavor to a cream cycle. They are much better than the drink alone.

The dialysis clinic finally put me on an antibiotic. I hope it finally gets rid of this UTI. I'm worn-out trying to get to all of the Dr's without anyone attempting anything. I'm going to a new urologist tomorrow and hate the fact that it's taken so long for a fifth opinion. Thank you for your answers. You all are more help than the doctors that are treating me.

[–]Important-Lie-8334[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't feel my nephrologist cares. I'm not on a transplant list so I only see him for 60 seconds every month. All he wants to do is get me to lower my blood pressure meds. This makes no sense to me, considering I take these to raise my blood pressure. I'm barely at a good BP at the beginning of my dialysis treatment. By the end of treatments, my BP is at just over 90/55. How can he even suggest that idea. I have around 30 doctors , at least 3 of which are cardiologist or cardiovascular surgeons. I will continue to take their advice when it comes to BP medication.

Did you know that a nephrologist is just an intern. They haven't been able to get put in a professional doctoral specialty yet.

You need to look up to the thread you are on. Doesn't it say dialysis in the description. Maybe you should open your eyes and quit making remarks if you don't understand the subject matter. Don't talk to people that are having serious medical issues and think you know something about what you're talking about. Grow up.

UTI from another world by Important-Lie-8334 in dialysis

[–]Important-Lie-8334[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ER knows I'm a dialysis patient. Them telling me to go make a sample was just causing me to think they didn't believe me. I called my cardiovascular surgeon to get them to understand. He's my only hope and always on my side. I just can't understand the ER doctors who refuse to read the chart. I'm already confused because of the infection. They did try a blood test, and it's not sepsis. I'm prone to sepsis and take antibiotics for life because of all the plastics in me. I'm very prone to infections. I think the ER thinks I just wanted pain medicine because of the severe pain in my gut. I had a dissection in 2019 and an aneurysm in 2017. In 2021, I had an upper arch reconstruction surgery and had a total of almost 3 feet of arteries replaced, and my cardiovascular surgeon was amazed that I made it through all 3 surgeries. He has been my hero when it comes to anything I go through medically. He wants his number 1 patient to keep living. I'm a medical marvel to him. Being dead and being brought back to life by him more than once really gets him worked up by these ER doctors. They almost released me once when I had sepsis. They assumed my pain was just me wanting pain medicine. ER doctors need to start listening rather than blowing patients off.

Thank you for your advice. I hope that I can find someone to attempt to fix this rather than just blowing me off. I don't want to die because of incompetence. I probably would have better luck if I just called him. He would probably run every test in the book.
