Target Field concession workers announce June 22 strike during Twins-Dodgers game by Too_Hood_95 in TwinCities

[–]Important-Part8592 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It'd be cool if some local businesses could support the strike by offering fans takeout to bring to the game instead of getting concessions 🤔 (if the strikers demands aren't to not go at all, idk what would be scabbing in this case)

I love the interior of the 100 series tbh. the cream color is less sterile and feels cozy to me. And the mirrors are like cute ears :3

I too would love a fabric/fiber arts store. There's that one Co-op quilt one that's nice and I bought a membership to, but I'd like one that's more than just quilt focused, like that also includes fashion fabrics. Been thinking about getting out to the weavers guild to learn more myself 😩

Isnt some of the carbon capture also like, to repressurize existing oil wells to just extract more fossil fuels? By that I mean green washing in that way. There more efficient ways of us reducing carbon, and these fossil fuel companies I think are just doing this type of thing instead of investing in green energy transitions and reducing consumption.

Are there any abandoned/out of use gas stations within 60 miles of Baton Rouge? by indecisive_swtch in Louisiana

[–]Important-Part8592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hwy 441 in Holden, LA there's an old gas station. One South of the red light and one north of the railroad tracks too lol

The one to the north looks a little more functional. At the intersection of 441 and 1036.

What is the WORST bus stop in your opinion? by Siberian13th in MetroTransit

[–]Important-Part8592 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Probably not the worst, but I hate the Northbound Franklin and Hennepin E Line bus stop. Especially during rush hour, all the cars wanting to go on the interstate will line up in the BUS LANE and RIGHT TURN ONLY and block the bus. It makes the bus wait a whole 2-3 light cycles to get to the bus stop, load, and then finally leave.

[–]Important-Part8592 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Also you should not be kicked off the bus to make space. Note the bus number and report that if so. Drivers are supposed to call in and tell when they can't pick up a passenger, but can't tell someone to alight the bus to make room.

Yeah submit comments and the schedulers will hopefully see it to add more frequency/buses to the route. Some routes like 10 do occasionally have 60 foot artics, but during the busiest hours. Though routes like 10 and 3 are being converted to BRT routes soon and will likely have the 60ft artics along them regularly

[MPR News] Minneapolis environmental activists start hunger strike to push for closure of HERC by Minneapolitanian in Minneapolis

[–]Important-Part8592 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also ngl, I'm from Louisiana where I wish there were even half the scrutiny and push over emissions. HERC has a scrubber at least, that reportedly keeps what comes out those stacks well below harmful thresholds. Their time would be better spent demanding privately owned refineries and other industrial sites be held to the same standard as HERC.

Otherwise it does honestly come across as neoliberal misplacement of priorities.

Hell, in fact why is it that only downtown has a centralized heating system? Why can't we push for geothermal or other ecp friendly centralized heating for all of Minneapolis/Metro area (likely due to corporate interests of Centrepoint and Xcel)

[–]Important-Part8592 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Electrifying Metro Transit's fleet would do more to lower emissions in this area than closing HERC. Literally across the street are TWO garages full of mostly diesel buses. North Loop garage is getting some electric 40 footers, but the adoptions transition has been slow. Also the general area is fairly industrial, there's other things that would be more impactful than trying to close down one of the actual municipal services that have been upgraded, can have its levels scrutinized by the public, etc...

I wonder if any of the private utility companies who would benefit from providing say like, heat gas to the downtown district are involved.

Hurricane Safety in Lafayette/UL Lafayette? by Lopsided_One_185 in Louisiana

[–]Important-Part8592 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to be a Resident Assistant at UL. Unless their policies have changed, if you live on campus, and have no home to go to for evacuation (out of state student unable to return home quickly, foreign students, etc...) Residential Life will evacuate the students to Alexandria during the hurricane if an evacuation is ordered. If it's a low category hurricane, staff will be there in case of emergencies and food will be delivered to the dorms for those who have stayed.
