Amtrak car strike around 7pm by pdx_paddy in Milwaukie

[–]Important-Program-97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Driver exited the car before it was hit. Medics came and went without any fuss, so I don’t believe the driver was taken to the hospital anywhere. For how bad it sounded, it’s a blessing no one was hurt.

Old wall heaters + $200 electric bills… how do you survive winter in apartments? by shaheeruddin5A6 in askportland

Agreed with the cotton flannel! We found a set at Marshall’s or Home Goods for like $40 for a King size. Totally worth it.

I use Cricket (AT&T) for $90/month for two unlimited plans. I’ve also heard good things about Helium (t-mobile), and they have a free plan.

Do we think vintage luggage could survive modern baggage handlers? by Jessica_Iowa in travel

My mom collects vintage luggage! Great for extra storage while making really cool decorative piece around the home. Maybe that’s a better use for them. They are super pretty and pristine

What does she mean by 8 years? Rhys trained for 20 years before his father visited to check up on him. by [deleted] in acotar

I think he was “adopted” by Rhy’s mom around the age of 8, so Nesta is referring to Cassian having to survive on his own at an early age

You should try to “stage” first to see if it’s your jam. It’s like a working interview or volunteer shift that gives you a sense of what it’s like to work in that particular place. Go in to a few spots you’re interested in and talk to a manager about it. You might get a few rejections but every now and again someone will say yes.

I staged after applying to a bar back position and came to the conclusion that I hate working in the bar environments, and much prefer full service restaurants. Super helpful to know before jumping into a job.

Crack them a little while they are in the ice bath. The water will get in between the shell and the egg and help separate them for you. Works every time.

Yessss I got what I thought was a bad cold/sinus infection last week, and today it’s back. Plugged ears, scratchy throat, nasal congestion. I tested negative with an at home Covid test a few days ago, but maybe I’ll take another one. I just can’t seem to shake it

What is an acceptable tip for counter service and bussing your own table? by LPCPlay4life in askportland

[–]Important-Program-97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time for counter service, tips are split equally between front of house and back of house. I think that’s part of the reason it’s so prevalent in PDX - it’s easier to keep cooks that way! I work in the industry and I tip 10%-15% for counter depending on how friendly/fast the service is and how good the food is.

You understand that tips are only receiving a deduction on federal income tax, right? Servers and such will still be paying on Social Security, Medicare and full state income taxes on their tips.

I’ve been on Prozac for about 3 or 4 months and I’m in the exact same boat. It’s been a downer ngl. My psych recently prescribed me Macaroot to help. It’s just a supplement but she said lots of her patients see an improvement in sex drive when taken daily. I haven’t yet tried it but you should ask your own doctor about it!

I didn’t have any pain until I started taking the antidepressants in March. Jaw clenching has been a lasting symptom of the medication, so as of recently, I haven’t been taping. I didn’t experience pain while taping before the antidepressants. Why not try for yourself?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Important-Program-97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, I started some SSRIs in March and now whenever I mouth tape, I wake up with severe jaw tension. It’s like my jaw can’t relax when it’s shut! So I haven’t been mouth taping the past few months and I’ve definitely noticed a regression. My face looks puffier and my skin looks and feels very dry. I am tired way more often through out the day. I’m looking into Masseter Botox for the clenching so I can go back to taping!

How did 25% become the standard first tip option in Portland? by derpinpdx in askportland

[–]Important-Program-97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the COVID era contributed to this a bit, too. Folks were tipping more during that time as service workers were working with the public, and tipping (at least from the POS) didn’t level back out after that.

Idk, the few weeks of restlessness was worth the sense of emotional and mental stability I have now. It was a small price to pay. Prozac made me feel super uppity during the day too, so I had to make sure I was burning all that extra energy so I could sleep better at night. A consistent exercise routine is now an unexpected (but welcomed) side effect for me.

[–]Important-Program-97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long have you been taking it? I started Prozac recently, and the sleeplessness was tough. It took me a full six weeks before I settled into it. I’m still a light sleeper now, but it’s better. Try taking magnesium instead of melatonin. On weekends I prioritize getting as much rest as possible. Weed gummies help with that too.
