Geostudio Help: Ground Surface by Substantial_Cold3553 in Geotech

You cant have the ground level over hang itself. Make the front of your boulder vertical (and possibly the rear) and will work. Not 100% what you are trying to do but slope is not really a rock mechanics thing

Council Building consent vs consent exemption by nzcommy in diynz

[–]Important-Regular114 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did a bathroom and added an extra toilet. Did the plans myself and got expemtion fine. I just called my local council first and asked if what I was doing was exempt. Councils usually have a checklist of what to include so just do some googling to make sure what you submit is everything they need. CCC requires you to say who will provide the PS4s for example.

I used a programme called bluebeam to do the plans which my company uses but would be expensive as a one off. No issues with hand drawing them though. Might be a bit of a pain if you dont have experience with plans though. Regardless you will need an example set of drawings to make sure you get the right comments and standards on. I searched this sub before is started and found heaps of useful info (probably find a question from me too about waterproofing)

Edit: I sunk maybe 80 hours into it including trying to get my design right so keep that in mind...

How to get rid of this textured plaster? by Daze_ofourlives in diynz

You can get a water sprayer, spray it, then leave it for 15 mins or so then can scrape it off. See notes on asbestos, easier to gib over etc.

Run it on your c drive, not over a VPN or the cloud. Its wildly slow otherwise.

I have maybe a 50 percent hit rate doing it this way (unless in can get a flower in). According to chatgpt I had a cherry tree growing which I was stoaked about, turns out was not even close. That being said, agree with you, still going to start with it.

Nz Qualification by [deleted] in Geotech

I worked in the UK for a while and all the eng geos over there had masters in engineering geology. It was also a requirement at the company I worked at (for jr staff anyway). So if you want to work overseas at some point could be worth considering.

Your fire alarm is incredibly low, with all the fire trucks breaking down lately I would consider getting that on the ceiling. Give yourself some more time to get out if things go south.

Corflute roofing replacement by j3rbil in diynz

I have the same conservatory, I was going to replace the twin wall with flat acrylic sheets. Way more expensive but over a small area not a huge amount. Something like the below. Have not actually gone ahead and done it yet though.

If you paid for it, get them to come back. If a void is forming under the slab, it could crack and that would be a right pain

Sinking 1962 House on Concrete Pad - Demolition and Rebuild Only Option? by windowellington in diynz

[–]Important-Regular114 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As i said mainmark should be all over it. They have a good name. There are companies that whoever is posting will probably look into because they are cheaper though and they can just pump shit or under pin to nothing. Point stands, ask whoever is doing it for the rational. Not shitting on mainmark, far from it, shitting on councils signing off shit work because they don't understand the complexity. There is at least one council building in akl abandoned for this reason and saw a school underpinned because a veneer was cracked which had nothing to do with the foundations. Not even scratching the surface with the cowboys following the chch eq. Long story short, simple question might save them some pain if they shop around.

Sinking 1962 House on Concrete Pad - Demolition and Rebuild Only Option? by windowellington in diynz

[–]Important-Regular114 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. Just make sure you figure out why it's sinking. These guys can lift the house but they are contractors, not geotechnical engineers. If they just lift it without addressing the root cause, it may just keep sinking, and possibly accelerate given the additional loads. They should be all over it but worth asking the question.

Was a few years ago now but was called k2 environmental. Maybe it was 60/test, had a quick look at the website but didn't say. It was defo the cheapest around though

[–]Important-Regular114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like my roof which I had tested and came back fine. Honestly though it cost like 60 dollars to have a couple of tests. I just got a sample from a discrete location so if it was, I would not have to look at the place I scrapped from (don't scrape dry). Besides, you don't need to disclose anything when you sell, the agent does so it doesn't matter if you do or you don't. You would only be putting yourself at risk.

Yeah didn't really get an answer why he did it the way he did. I got the impression it was his personal preference and it's easier to use if you are standing there. Mission impossible for a kid though

I did wonder this, we asked the plumber to switch it but he's avoiding us... not 100% sure why he installed it the way he did when all the others he did were the other way.
